Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are proved endocrine disrupting potentials. Reference points (RP) for PCBs are derived from dose-response relationship analysis by using the traditional no observed adverse effect or lowest observed adverse effect level (NOAEL/LOAEL) methods, or a more advanced benchmark dose (BMD) method. PURPOSE: Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are ubiquitous in the environment. Concerns have been raised about cancer and other disease risks. This follow-up mortality study of PCB workers addresses some of these concerns.
METHODS: Mortality among 7,061 PCB capacitor workers was updated through 2008 (287,712 person-years; mean follow-up 41 years). In order to gain comprehensive understanding of status, properties and sources of PCBs pollution at an industrial area in Shanghai, PM10 were collected during the period November 2004-September 2005.
