Firstly we showed the reason for the choice of each product used in the preparation of this cosmetic. After this we studied "in vitro" the effect of this preparation, and "in vivo" in 25 patients sensitive to Potassium dichromate. On seeing the null effect of this preparation, owing to the oxidation of ascorbic acid, on these 25 patients, we modified the formula, substituting the ascorbic acid and EDTA, respectively, for tartaric acid and glycine. The respective tests "in vitro" and "in vivo" on 20 patients, this time showed beneficial effect of this preparation in 60% of the patients tested.

In this retrospective study, patch test results of 542 patients (303 female and 239 male), referred to our clinic between June 1996 and July 1999, were evaluated. We describe the application of histochemical demonstration of chromium in a case of fatal ingestion of potassium dichromate in a suicide attempt. Using 2-(8-quinolylazo)-4,5-di-p-tolylimidazole (QTI), we could demonstrate chromium in the erythrocyte of the victim, in situ. This finding provides a means of proving the hexavalent chromium ingestion.

BACKGROUND: Five workers from a plant manufacturing concrete wall panels and beams were referred to our department because of suspected occupational dermatitis. In patients with eczema nummulare patch tests with a panel of 18 allergens were done with positive result in 9 (18%) cases. In 6 cases multivalent allergy was found. In a multicenter study, potassium dichromate-preserved stools from patients infected with Cryptosporidium parvum (n = 20), C. hominis (n = 20), and other Cryptosporidium species (n = 10) and 60 controls were examined using four immunochromatographic assays. Hyposensitization is a poorly understood phenomenon that refers to the conversion from a positive to a negative (or less positive) patch test. In this study, a simple method was evaluated for serum bilirubin estimation in neonates. The color of plasma was compared with various dilutions of potassium dichromate. Readings were then compared with serum bilirubin levels obtained by diazo reaction. The coefficient of correlation (r = 0.7947) between the two was statistically significant. It is concluded that the color index provides reliable estimates of serum bilirubin levels.
