Methyltestosterone (MT) enhanced the chemiluminescence of potassium permanganate-sodium thiosulphate system in sulphuric acid medium, and this was used as the basis of a novel flow-injection chemiluminescence method for the determination of methyltesterone. Under optimum conditions, the linear response of MT was in the range 3.0 x 10(-8)-8.0 x 10(-6) g/mL, and the detection limit for determination of MT was 1.0 x 10(-8) g/mL. The method was applied to the analysis of fish with recovery in the range 88.0-113.8% with an average RSD of 1.66% (n = 8).

A 60-year-old, otherwise healthy, male farmer presented to our Dermatology Department with a large ulcer on his lower right leg. The lesion had started as a small papule 6 months before, which became eroded and transformed into a rather rapidly progressive ulcer. On careful inspection, numerous larvae were found moving within the wound. The larvae were analyzed and found to be Lucilia sericata (the green bottle blowfly). The lesion was diagnosed histopathologically as squamous cell carcinoma. The myiasis was treated by submerging the wound in a dilute permanganate potassium solution.

A 61-year old asymptomatic woman had a five-year history of pulmonary nodular lesions on routine radiographs. She underwent open lung biopsy, which revealed nodular lesions in the lungs and thickened pleura. Histological examination showed amyloid deposits in the pulmonary parenchyma and adjacent pleura. Congo Red staining of the specimen demonstrated green birefringence under polarized light. In 2009, we identified a TCE plume at an abandoned landfill that was located in a low permeable silty-clay aquifer.
