A case of spontaneous heterotopic pregnancy is reported that presented with 10 weeks of amenorrhea. Transvaginal ultrasound showed an intra-uterine gestational sac as well as left-sided tubal pregnancy. Operative laparoscopy and left salpingectomy was performed while the intrauterine pregnancy continued and resulted in a liveborn vaginal delivery at 36 week of gestation. The promising neonatal outcome suggests that laparoscopy could be an appropriate method to manage some carefully selected patients with heterotopic pregnancy.

We report a case of Severe OHSS combined with Heterotopic pregnancy. During the treatment of OHSS the patient underwent transvaginal paracentesis for the ascites but no sign of blood was noticed into the fluid. The ultrasound control in the 8th week had shown a normal intrauterine pregnancy without any suspicion for heterotopic pregnancy. The diagnosis for heterotopic pregnancy became possible at 10 Weeks of gestation by Ultrasound. Laparotomy with partial tubal resection was performed. The intrauterine pregnancy is still ongoing without complications.

A 34-year-old G1P0 patient presented to the emergency room (ER) at 7-weeks with cramping and vaginal spotting for 12 hours. Her pregnancy was conceived naturally. Serum β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) level on arrival was 83 200 IU/L. Transvaginal ultrasonography (TVUS) of the pelvis showed an intrauterine and concomitant right tubal ectopic pregnancy (Figs. 1 and 2). Both embryos of the heterotopic pregnancy showed cardiac activity (Fig. 2). A moderate amount of free fluid was noted (Fig. 1 and Supplemental Video 1), concerning for tubal rupture. The patient underwent an uncomplicated

Heterotopic cervical ectopic pregnancy (CEP) is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy, that involves implantation of gestational sac in both the cervical canal and uterine cavity. This condition poses high risks of severe complications like lethal vaginal bleeding and abortion. Transvaginal ultrasonography is the primary diagnostic tool. Risk factors may vary from prior cesarean delivery to the utilization of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART). Despite the research conducted on this condition, the best treatment strategy has not been established. This study discusses a rare case of cervical h

Heterotopic pregnancies are a rare phenomenon defined by the simultaneous occurrence of intrauterine and extrauterine pregnancy. The incidence of heterotopic pregnancy occurring through natural fertilization is low but is increased by risk factors such as assisted reproductive techniques or pelvic inflammatory disease increase. We report the case of a 36-year-old female patient in the 6th week of pregnancy who presented to the emergency unit with severe acute lower abdominal pain. Laboratory chemistry and sonography revealed a suspected heterotopic pregnancy. The patient was admitted for obser

Heterotopic pregnancy (HP) occurs when there is a simultaneous intrauterine and extrauterine pregnancy, either viable or non-viable. Although spontaneous HP is rare, it is important to consider this possibility. Acute appendicitis (AA) is a common non-obstetric surgical emergency in pregnant women. Diagnosing HP can be challenging, particularly in pregnant women who present with symptoms such as right iliac fossa pain and an acute abdomen. As HP may not be initially suspected in the presence of a viable intrauterine pregnancy, we present an intriguing case of spontaneous HP initially presentin

Cervical pregnancy (CP) is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy (EP) in which the embryo implants and grows inside the endocervical canal. Heterotopic cervical pregnancy is an even rare form of EP, in which at least two embryos are simultaneously implanted in different sites and only one in the uterine cavity. Although many treatment approaches are available, the ideal management remains unclear. Here, we describe two cases of CP caused by assisted reproductive technologies (ART). One case underwent fertilization with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) for male factor infertility, and the oth

KEY MESSAGE: Both expectant and interventional managements are acceptable in selected cases, when heterotopic pregnancy is diagnosed, with high ongoing intra-uterine pregnancy rate and term deliveries.
PURPOSE: Heterotopic pregnancy, though relatively rare, is potentially a life-threatening condition. The aim of the study is to compare expectant versus interventional management of heterotopic pregnancies.
METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study including all women diagnosed with heterotopic pregnancy on ultrasound from March 2011 to December 2020 in a single medical center. Expectant a

Heterotopic pregnancy is defined as a condition when intrauterine and extrauterine pregnancy occur simultaneously. It is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate and accurate diagnostics and treatment. We present a case of a 28-year-old primigravida female who conceived spontaneously and at her seventh week of gestation and was presented to the emergency department with weakness and acute pain in lower abdomen. Laboratory tests and transvaginal ultrasonography revealed the diagnosis of heterotopic pregnancy. Urgent laparoscopic salpingotomy was chosen as a treatment option. The ect

Heterotopic pregnancy refers to the presence of simultaneous pregnancies in two different implantation sites, generally one intra-uterine pregnancy and one extra-uterine pregnancy (usually tubal). This is a rare case of a heterotopic pregnancy involving concurrent intra-uterine pregnancy and caesarean section scar pregnancy (CSEP). CSEPs are at a high risk of bleeding and uterine rupture, carrying with them significant maternal morbidity.

Heterotopic pregnancy (HP), i.e. the simultaneous development of an intrauterine and an ectopic pregnancy, is rare with a reported incidence of between 1 : 2600 and 1 : 30 000. Only a few cases have been described in the literature. We report here on an extremely rare case of HP after natural conception with cardiac activity noted on sonography in both the intrauterine and the ectopic foetus. Examination excluded appendicitis. Vaginal sonography (VS) was performed and revealed a second, extrauterine foetus with cardiac activity. The differential diagnosis included twin pregnancy in a bicornuat

CASE REPORT: A 38-year-old woman presented, one year after bilateral tubal ligation, with vaginal bleeding, vomiting, and stupor. Ten days earlier, she had submitted to a dilatation and curettage for an unexpected intrauterine pregnancy. At the time of this presentation there was rebound tenderness and guarding on abdominal examination, and a 2.5 cm right adnexal mass was detected on transvaginal ultrasound together with free fluid in the pelvis. The serum level of beta-hCG was 8522 mIU/ml. At laparoscopy a right tubal pregnancy and a large haematocele in the pouch of Douglas were detected. A

Spontaneous heterotopic pregnancies are uncommon, and ovarian implantations are even more unusual. Clinical symptoms, serial human chorionic gonadotropin levels and the presence of an intrauterine pregnancy on ultrasound are not reliable to diagnose a heterotopic pregnancy. A 27-year-old Gravida 2 Para 1 presented with a complaint of right lower quadrant sharp, cramping pain associated with nausea and vomiting. Ultrasound demonstrated an intrauterine pregnancy and a right adnexal mass. The right adnexal mass had a gestational sac with a fetal pole and positive fetal heart activity. A laparosco

Heterotopic pregnancy is the simultaneous existence of intrauterine and ectopic gestations. Heterotopic pregnancy is an extremely rare entity in natural cycle; however, it is increasing due to widespread use of assisted reproductive techniques. Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial in avoiding short- and long-term morbidity and mortality. Unfortunately, early diagnosis is often difficult due to the presence of intrauterine pregnancy that impedes the diagnosis and early treatment for ectopic component. Clinical symptoms are not generally helpful in diagnosis, and signs of the ectopic pre
