Interstitial pregnancies account for 2-4% of ectopic pregnancies. In the second trimester there is a risk of life-threatening rupture. Women with prior salpingectomy seem to be at increased risk. This case report is about a 30-year-old woman with previous salpingectomy presented with a live interstitial pregnancy, confirmed via ultrasound in the first trimester. She underwent laparoscopic surgery due to the risk of rupture. This highlights the importance of recognizing the risk in such patients and suggests reconsideration of the procedure to reduce the occurrence of interstitial pregnancies.

OBJECTIVE(S): To clarify the respective definitions of cornual and interstitial pregnancy and to explore the difficulties in diagnosing these entities, particularly in the context of Müllerian fusion defects.
DESIGN: Case study.
SETTING: Community and tertiary-care hospitals.
PATIENT(S): Female with recurrent pregnancy loss initially diagnosed with an interstitial pregnancy but subsequently found to have a cornual pregnancy in a bicornuate/septate uterus.
INTERVENTION(S): Imaging with two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasound, hysterosalpingogram, serial beta-hCG measurement, admini

BACKGROUND: In the last three decades, systemic methotrexate (MTX) has become widely accepted as the primary treatment for unruptured tubal pregnancy. This has prompted investigations into the use of MTX in the management of interstitial pregnancy.
AIM: To determine the effectiveness of methotrexate for treatment of interstitial pregnancy.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 17 haemodynamically stable women admitted to our tertiary, university-affiliated medical centre with an intact interstitial pregnancy from January 2003 through February 2013. First-line treatment consisted of intramuscu

OBJECTIVES: Our aim was to report a new approach of endoscopic management (endoloop and encircling suture methods) for interstitial or cornual pregnancy and to determine the safety and effectiveness of these procedures and their effects on subsequent pregnancies.
STUDY DESIGN: This is an uncontrolled retrospective review of 24 patients treated for interstitial pregnancies through endoscopic operations with 14 to 72 months of follow-up at a large urban medical center. Blood loss, operation time, changes of serum human chorionic gonadotropin levels, the resumption of menstruation, and subsequen

Ectopic pregnancy is the development of the embryo outside the uterine cavity. In recent years an increase in the incidence of ectopic pregnancies has been observed. It is mainly related to the increased number of IVF procedures. The most frequent localization is the ampulla of the fallopian tube. In cases of intramural or cornual ectopic pregnancies, many patients have a history of ectopic pregnancy on the same side or underwent partial salpingectomy in the past. Treatment of such pregnancies involves laparotomy and removal of the uterus or comu of the uterus. This case concerns a patient ope

Ectopic pregnancies are a frequently encountered cause of first-trimester metrorrhagia. They occur when an embryo is implanted and grows outside the normal uterine space. Uncommonly, the embryo can be implanted in the intramural portion of the uterine tube, a condition referred to as interstitial localization. This specific type of ectopic pregnancy may have an unpredictable course, potentially leading to severe uterine rupture and catastrophic bleeding if not promptly diagnosed and managed. We present a rare case of a multiparous 36-year-old female patient who underwent pelvic ultrasonography

Non-tubal ectopic pregnancies represent fewer than 10% of all ectopic pregnancies. However, they are associated with a high rate of mortality due to late diagnosis and uterine horn rupture which requires radical emergency surgical management. Cornuectomy via laparoscopy is a treatment of choice. We provide here a simple description of laparoscopic cornuectomy using an Endo GIA stapling system: the Endo GIA® automatic forceps. It has the advantage of removing the mass, suturing, and achieving satisfactory haemostasis in a single step.

Antisynthetase syndrome is a rare multisystem autoimmune disorder which clinically manifests with myositis, arthritis, interstitial lung disease, Raynaud phenomenon, and skin hyperkeratosis. Lung involvement represents the most severe form of disease and has rarely been reported in pregnancy. We present the case of a 22-year-old woman with antisynthetase syndrome and severe restrictive pulmonary disease who experienced a successful pregnancy and delivery. We discuss anesthetic considerations and highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary team approach in caring for parturients with multif

We report five cases of interstitial pregnancy, treated between 2004 and 2010, to evaluate surgical and obstetric outcome of laparoscopic cornual resection with a "purse-string" technique. A hemostatic suture was passed at the base of the mass in a purse-string fashion prior to resection, to minimize intraoperative blood loss. Subsequent pregnancies were analysed, with a mean follow-up time of 48 months. The mean operating time was 39 min and mean blood loss 47 mL. Three of four patients who desired children delivered at term uneventfully. Laparoscopic cornual resection with a "purse-string" t

Ectopic pregnancy in the interstitial part of the fallopian tube is a rare event. This condition presents a challenge for clinical as well as radiological diagnosis. Although routine two-dimensional ultrasound can be suggestive, three-dimensional ultrasound is highly accurate in diagnosis. Hence, the authors report a rare case of interstitial ectopic pregnancy diagnosed preoperatively by three-dimensional ultrasound and managed laparoscopically.

BACKGROUND: Interstitial pregnancy is a rare and dangerous form of ectopic pregnancy which is treated by surgery, medical treatment, or both. Management options are not standardized. Currently, conservative nonsurgical treatment seems to be an alternative method in case of interstitial pregnancy.
CASE: A right interstitial pregnancy was diagnosed in a 28-year-old woman. She was successfully treated by 2 courses of systemic methotrexate (1 mg/kg) 24 hours apart followed by selective uterine artery embolization. The postembolization course was uneventful, and no rupture occurred. Ten weeks afte

Interstitial pregnancy is an infrequent type of ectopic pregnancy. Two cases of acute abdomen due to ruptured interstitial pregnancy following salpingectomy, a rare event, are presented. Both patients were young women who had had a previous salpingo-oophorectomy due to ovarian cyst. The presenting symptoms were in the first case abdominal pain followed by hemorrhagic shock, and in the second a right iliac fossa syndrome simulating acute appendicitis. Surgical intervention consisted of wedge resection of the uterine segment involved. A review of the literature and practical considerations are p

Interstitial ectopic pregnancy is a rare and potentially life-threatening type of ectopic pregnancy. Its location within the myometrial portion of the fallopian tube poses diagnostic challenges and increases the risk of hemorrhage upon rupture. We report the case of a 30-year-old primigravida who presented with lower abdominal pain and per vaginal spotting at approximately six weeks of gestation. Imaging confirmed a left interstitial ectopic pregnancy. She was hemodynamically stable and fulfilled the criteria for medical management. A multidose methotrexate regimen was administered, with seria

Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) is a group of benign and malignant tumors that develop from placental tissue and includes hydatidiform moles and gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). Invasive molar disease and choriocarcinoma are rare forms of GTN and can arise from any pregnancy event. An interstitial ectopic pregnancy occurs with implantation within the intramural portion of the fallopian tube covered by myometrium. We present two cases of an invasive mole with pathology consistent with choriocarcinoma in situ arising from an interstitial ectopic pregnancies. We review managemen
