During transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), rectal carcinoma was an incidental finding in seven patients among a series of 5,000 TRUS examinations. TRUS was performed in seven patients with symptoms characteristic of prostatic diseases. 20 patients with highly dosed irradiation of the small pelvis had been treated with Colifoam (hydrocortisone) in order to prove the therapeutic effect of radiation-induced proctitis. Idiopathic acute rectal necrosis (IARN) is a rare condition due to a robust rectal blood supply. This report describes an 83-year-old man presenting with septic shock due to distal sigmoid and complete rectal necrosis with perforation. The diagnosis "prostatitis" is frequently a makeshift. It not uncommonly occasions long-term antibacterial chemotherapeutic measures which are often ineffective. The symptoms of "prostatitis" may be caused by an anogenital syndrome. This diagnosis can only be made on the basis of meticulous urological and proctological investigations.
