Designing for implementation: development, delivery, and multi-method evaluation of a clinician training program for a novel technology-based concussion assessment tool.

BACKGROUND: Implementation strategies like user training are often excluded from research activities for digital health technologies (DHTs) or reserved for advanced stages of evidence generation. This may contribute to challenges in clinical translation due to usability, feasibility, fidelity, and scalability issues. Using the example of a concussion assessment tool called R2Play, we demonstrate how clinicians can be engaged in developing training resources for DHTs during early stages of evidence generation and illustrate potential benefits of this approach. OBJECTIVES: (1) Develop a clinici

Topical metronidazole application compared with subgingival scaling. A clinical and microbiological study on recall patients.

The aim of this study was to compare the topical application of a metronidazole 25% dental gel with subgingival scaling. 30 patients from the recall program participated in this open randomised study with split-mouth design. Pocket probing depths (PPD) and bleeding on probing (BOP) were measured before and 2, 12 and 24 weeks after the end of the treatment period. In addition, subgingival plaque samples were taken from all mesial sites and analysed with dark-field microscopy. All patients had at least 1 tooth in each quadrant with a PPD of 5 mm or more that should bleeding on probing, when ente

Developing a Program for Advanced Occupational Therapist Practice in Amputation Care.

INTRODUCTION: Throughout the conflicts of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, military medicine changed significantly. The greatest developments were the pivotal advancements in emergency medicine which saved the lives of many service members who sustained complex limb trauma and other forms of polytrauma. These developments led to changes in training, policy and other systemic advancements. However, the parallel advancements in post-acute treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with significant limb trauma did not result in the development of training, policy and syste

Scoping review and recommendation to establish standardized best practices for resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta in combat casualties: A North Atlantic Treaty Organization exploratory team report.

Truncal hemorrhage is a major cause of combat-related mortality, with delayed surgical access likely increasing future fatalities. Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is a technique to temporarily control hemorrhage until surgery can be performed. Differences in management, device selection, and training among North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies can compromise patient care during deployments. In response, NATO formed a multinational team of REBOA experts to make recommendations for future efforts to standardize care and enhance interoperability. The t

Design and Implementation of a Curriculum for Emergency Medicine Residents to Address Medications and Treatment Referral for Opioid Use Disorder.

Background: Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) are recognized as successful treatments for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). The Emergency Department is well situated to initiate MOUD and begin the referral process. Unfortunately, uptake of this practice among Emergency Medicine (EM) physicians has been slow. EM physicians may feel inadequately prepared to provide MOUD and addiction referral services due to lack of previous training and experience. The goal of this pilot study was to create, implement, and evaluate an OUD management curriculum for EM residents and measure impact on knowledge,

[Construction and teaching practice of an AI- and OBE-integrated smart course Genetic Engineering].

Several critical challenges exist in the graduate course Genetic Engineering at Beijing Institute of Technology, including conceptual confusion in core topics such as CRISPR-Cas9, difficulties in transferring theoretical knowledge to experimental design, fragmentation of teaching resources across multiple platforms, and the lack of process-oriented assessment for complex reasoning and research competence. In response, we propose a new paradigm that deeply integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and outcome-based education (OBE) in course design and implementation. Specifically, we construct a

Canadian Cardiovascular Society Consensus Conference guidelines on heart failure--2008 update: best practices for the transition of care of heart failure patients, and the recognition, investigation and treatment of cardiomyopathies.

Heart failure is a clinical syndrome that normally requires health care to be provided by both specialists and nonspecialists. This is advantageous because patients benefit from complementary skill sets and experience, but can present challenges in the development of a common, shared treatment plan. The Canadian Cardiovascular Society published a comprehensive set of recommendations on the diagnosis and management of heart failure in January 2006, and on the prevention, management during intercurrent illness or acute decompensation, and use of biomarkers in January 2007. The present update bui

Internet education for spinal cord injury patients: focus on urinary management.

The goal of this project was to develop a Web site with articles that focus on urinary self-care management for those with spinal cord injuries. The investigator wrote 18 articles on topics that were selected by two review panels--one whose members have long-term spinal cord injuries and another consisting of rehabilitation nurses. The panel members critically reviewed the articles for content and topic. After revisions, nine of the 18 articles were translated from English into Spanish and then translated back into English to ensure accuracy. Consumers were asked to rate their satisfaction wit

Sexual learning among East African adolescents in the context of generalized HIV epidemics: A systematic qualitative meta-synthesis.

BACKGROUND: AIDS-related illness is the leading cause of mortality for adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa. Together, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda account for 21% of HIV-infected adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa. The United Nations framework for addressing the epidemic among adolescents calls for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education. These HIV prevention efforts could be informed by a synthesis of existing research about the formal and informal sexual education of adolescents in countries experiencing generalized epidemics. The purpose of this study was to describe the process

Teaching the Atomic Sentence Method for Source-Verified, AI-Assisted Literature Synthesis to Clinical Health Care Professionals: Single-Cohort Feasibility and Acceptability Study.

BACKGROUND: Generative AI can reduce the academic-writing burden on clinical health care professionals, but unsupervised use introduces citation hallucination (the confident fabrication or misattribution of references), which threatens research integrity. When a machine invents a source, it is termed "hallucination," and when a person does it, it is termed "fabrication," yet both are equally unacceptable. Existing health professions education writing workshops have rarely translated this concern into a concrete, reproducible source-verification procedure. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to descri
