This case demonstrates the occurrence of the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) in association with the administration of several antidepressant medications. The SIADH was shown by rechallenge to be associated with imipramine, an antidepressant not previously associated with SIADH. In addition, SIADH appeared to occur with bupropion, a new antidepressant structurally dissimilar to tricyclic antidepressants.

Dissociative convulsions or pseudoseizures are a difficult to treat common psychiatric condition. In a subset of these patients, the chief complaint is clenching of teeth with apparent nonresponsiveness alone. Neither drugs nor psychotherapeutic interventions have been found to be of much help in its management. Report of two such subsets of cases is presented, in which patients with dissociative convulsions showed sudden, dramatic, and sustained good response to the addition of a muscle relaxant eperisone.

The authors report a case of bupropion-associated delirium characterized by disorganized thinking, memory impairment, fear, and agitation but not disorientation, delusions, hallucinations, or other perceptual distortions. Symptom onset appeared to be dose-related, and a sustained therapeutic response was subsequently obtained at a lower dose of bupropion without recurrence of delirium. Abnormal bupropion metabolism and elevated plasma metabolite levels did not account for the adverse reaction, which instead was hypothesized to reflect dopaminergic effects of bupropion.

Severe stomatitis is a common problem encountered during either radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Most therapeutic regimens are empirical, with no scientific basis. The anorexigenic effects of cathine (phenylpropanolamine) and cathinone (alpha-aminopropiophenone), both amines obtained from Catha edulis Forsk. (Khat) were investigated by acute and chronic experiments in rats. Amphetamine was included for comparison purposes. Both khat amines reduced food intake when administered acutely and body weight when given chronically. Cathinone was more effective than cathine, and both were less active than amphetamine. Partial or total cross-tolerance was observed among the 3 drugs.
