LSTR Technique With CTZ Antibiotic Paste in Primary Molar: 5-Year Follow-Up Case Report.

Reports describing long-term outcomes of the lesion sterilization and tissue repair (LSTR) technique in primary molars are limited. This paper presents a distinctive case in which a primary molar with complete root development and furcation involvement-usually an indication for conventional pulpectomy-was instead treated with LSTR, a technique generally recommended in advanced root resorption. The case adds evidence on the potential indications and clinical versatility of this approach in pediatric dentistry. A pediatric patient with uncooperative behavior presented with discomfort in a primar

Management of deep caries lesions with or without pulp involvement in primary teeth: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

There is a lack of evidence about the best approach for cavitated caries lesions with the possibility of pulpal involvement in primary teeth. Thus, the present authors aimed to verify the best treatment for deep caries lesions with or without pulp involvement in primary teeth. The search was conducted in MEDLINE/Pubmed and Web of Science databases until May 2020. Studies that compared techniques to manage deep caries lesions with at least 12 months of follow-up were included. The risk of bias was evaluated using the RoB tool. Network meta-analysis and pairwise meta-analyses were conducted cons

A clinical and radiographic study of four different root canal fillings in primary molars.

BACKGROUND: Successful treatment of infected primary teeth aims to preserve the child's health. However, the complex morphology of primary root canals and the desire for shorter therapy sessions put the necessity to search for the ideal root canal paste. AIMS: To evaluate pulpectomy of nonvital primary molars using four different root canal filling pastes zinc oxide and propolis (ZOP) as a new paste, endoflas-chlorophenol-free as a new paste free of chlorophenol, metapex paste, and zinc oxide and eugenol (ZOE) paste as a control paste. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Pulpectomy of 64 nonvital primary

Inflammatory root resorption in primary molars: prevalence and associated factors.

This study aimed at determining the prevalence of inflammatory root resorption and associated factors in 1068 primary mandibular molars in 453 children 3 to 12 years of age. Age, dental history and medical history were recorded using a questionnaire administered to the children's parents/caregivers. Previously trained and calibrated examiners assessed radiographic images of the primary molars by direct observation, with the aid of a viewing box. Root resorption (physiological or inflammatory), dental crown status (healthy, carious with no pulp involvement, carious with pulp involvement and evi

Endodontic treatment of chronically infected primary teeth using triple antibiotic paste: An in vivo study.

AIM: Maintenance of primary dentition is imperative for the development of arch form, esthetics, function, mastication, and normal eruption of permanent teeth. Premature loss can cause various problems such as ectopic eruption, space loss for the successor permanent teeth, alterations in speech, and impairment of function. Hence, decayed primary teeth should not be extracted and treated whenever possible. Pulpectomy is generally recommended as a treatment of choice in such cases. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic success of pulpectomized primary teeth with

A study of the interleukin-1 gene cluster polymorphisms and inflammatory external root resorption in replanted permanent teeth.

AIM: To investigate whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the interleukin-1 gene cluster (IL1) are associated with the occurrence and severity of inflammatory external root resorption (IERR) after replantation of avulsed permanent teeth. METHODOLOGY: Indexes of IERR were radiographically assessed in 182 mature replanted permanent teeth from 146 patients at the onset of endodontic therapy. DNA was extracted from buccal mucosa cells and genotyped using TaqMan probes-based assays for the SNPs IL1A -889C/T (rs 180058), IL1B +3954C/T (rs1143634) and IL1RN +2018C/T (rs419598). Teeth

Maintaining Tooth Vitality With Super Minimally Invasive Pulp Therapy.

In aging humans, tooth loss is a predictor of decreased longevity. Tooth loss is mainly caused by dental caries and periodontal disease. Pulpitis refers to inflammation of the dental pulp caused by bacterial infection secondary to dental caries. It is accompanied by severe toothache and has infectious disease-associated pathophysiology. Pulpitis is mainly treated by pulpectomy, which is aimed at removing the infected dental pulp and controlling pain by removing nociceptive nerve fibers. However, teeth without dental pulp have a poor prognosis. In this report, we proposed a novel "super minimal

Review of the success of pulp exposure treatment of cariously and traumatically exposed pulps in immature permanent incisors and molars.

The decision to retain immature permanent tooth with pulp disease is problematical. Restoring the tooth would normally involve some form of pulp capping/pulpotomy procedure or a more radical pulpectomy and root canal treatment. Pulp capping/pulpotomy procedures, where all or part of the pulp is retained, relies upon an accurate assessment of the pulp condition, and the careful management of the remaining healthy tissue. Pulpectomy or root canal treatment is technically difficult as the root apex is open with the result that conventional preparation and filling techniques are compromised. On th

Postoperative pain perception and associated risk factors in children after continuous rotation versus reciprocating kinematics: A randomised prospective clinical trial.

To compare the postoperative pain of continuous rotation and reciprocating movements after pulpectomy of non-vital primary molars and determine associated risk factors. 146 children aged 4-8 years with one primary molar indicated for pulpectomy were randomly assigned to two equal groups: those instrumented with continuous rotation motion (Hyflex EDM Coltene/Whaledent) and reciprocating motion (Reciproc R25 (VDW)). A 4-point pain scale was used to assess postoperative pain frequencies, which were compared at different intervals using the Chi-square test. Postoperative pain risk factors were det

[Outcomes of traumatic dental injuries in children].

The aim of the study was to review literature data on incidence and outcomes of traumatic dental injuries (TDI) in pediatric population. A systematic search was conducted using Elibray, Pubmed/Medline, Scopus databases in October 2018. Reference lists were also hand-searched to identify additional literature. The most prevalent complication of TDI is pulp necrosis (PN) which triggers inflammatory root resorption (IRR). PN and IRR are however much more specific for mature permanent teeth. In immature teeth pulp revascularization may occur even after avulsion. Pulpectomy timing is well defined f

[Effect on the development of permanent successors due to the extraction and non-extraction of infected deciduous teeth].

The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects on the eruption and root formation of the permanent successors of deciduous teeth affected by periapical periodontitis. Materials used were forty-one healthy infant dogs about two months old. Standardized X-ray films were taken every two weeks. The period of study ran from the age of ten weeks to twenty eight weeks until the roots of the permanent successors were completed. A total of 328 mandibular teeth were used and classified as P2 and P3 with their preceding deciduous teeth being Dp2 and Dp3. The following four groups were used in this

Pain after emergency treatments of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and symptomatic apical periodontitis in the permanent dentition: a systematic review of randomized clinical trials.

BACKGROUND: Symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (SIP) or symptomatic apical periodontitis (SAP) are two painful conditions often warranting emergency treatment. The most common emergency treatments supported by evidence are pulpotomy and pulpectomy and are normally performed under time-constrained circumstances. However, there is no strong evidence of which treatment suggested in literature a clinician can use to reduce endodontic pain effectively. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review is to investigate the present knowledge on postoperative pain related to the two types of emergency trea
