Ultra-extended euthermic pulsed radiofrequency for the treatment of ophthalmic neuralgia: A case report with elaboration of a new technique.

BACKGROUND: Pulsed radiofrequency although present for many years has been used little compared to ablative procedures for pain relief. Its use in trigeminal neuralgia is sparse and unreported in the ophthalmic division, where the possibility of sensory loss can lead to high morbidity. We wished to explore the potential of this reportedly safe modality for a prolonged duration in a highly sensitive anatomic neural location, however, in a very secure, structured, and staged manner. CASE DESCRIPTION: A patient suffering from ophthalmic division (V1) medically uncontrolled neuralgia with a preop

Comparison of High-voltage- with Standard-voltage Pulsed Radiofrequency of Gasserian Ganglion in the Treatment of Idiopathic Trigeminal Neuralgia.

Although pulsed radiofrequency treatment (PRFT) has been used to treat trigeminal neuralgia (TN) safely, satisfactory improvement is lacking. Recently, much attention has been paid to the PRFT dose and intra-operative parameters. It has been reported that high-voltage PRFT could significantly reduce discogenic pain. However, there is no study investigating the effects of high-voltage PRFT on TN. The aim of this prospective, randomized, double-blinded study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of high-voltage PRFT in comparison with standard-voltage PRFT for idiopathic TN. Sixty severe TN pa

Intramuscular Pulsed Radiofrequency Upregulates BNDF-TrKB Expression in the Spinal Cord in Rats as an Alternative Treatment for Complicated Pain.

Two cases of complicated pain exist: posterior screw fixation and myofascial pain. Intramuscular pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) may be an alternative treatment for such patients. This is a two-stage animal study. In the first stage, two muscle groups and two nerve groups were subdivided into a high-temperature group with PRF at 58 °C and a regular temperature with PRF at 42 °C in rats. In the second stage, two nerve injury groups were subdivided into nerve injury with PRF 42 °C on the sciatic nerve and muscle. Blood and spinal cord samples were collected. In the first stage, the immunohistochemic

Outcomes of Twice Repeated High-Voltage Long-Duration Pulsed Radiofrequency Treatment in Subacute Postherpetic Neuralgia: a Retrospective Single-Center Analysis.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of herpes zoster-related pain is challenging, and requires a variety of methods including pulse radio frequency modulation. Among them, single-time high-voltage long-term pulsed radiofrequency (HL-PRF) has been proved to be an effective treatment for subacute postherpetic neuralgia. However, it has the possibility of poor long-term curative effect and recurrence of neuralgia. In this study, we aim to identify the clinical efficacy and safety of twice repeated HL-PRF treatment in patients with subacute postherpetic neuralgia. DESIGN: We conducted a retrospective analy
