Developing indicators of appropriate and inappropriate end-of-life care in people with Alzheimer's disease, cancer or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for population-level administrative databases: A RAND/UCLA appropriateness study.

BACKGROUND: A substantial amount of aggressive life-prolonging treatments in the final stages of life has been reported for people with progressive life-shortening conditions. Monitoring appropriate and inappropriate end-of-life care is an important public health challenge and requires validated quality indicators. AIM: To develop indicators of appropriate and inappropriate end-of-life care for people with cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or Alzheimer's disease, measurable with population-level administrative data. DESIGN: modified RAND/UCLA appropriateness method. SETTING/PART

The importance of developing palliative care quality indicators for the prison setting: why now, and next steps.

Palliative care is increasingly important in the prison setting, but information about the quality and accessibility of this care is extremely limited. Developing and implementing standardised quality indicators will provide transparency, accountability, and a platform for quality improvement at both local and national levels.

Codeveloping a Set of Quality of Care Indicators for People Living With Multiple Long-Term Conditions in Primary Care: Protocol for a Modified RAND/UCLA Study.

BACKGROUND: Quality indicators in primary care remain predominantly disease-specific and professionally defined, with limited incorporation of what matters most to people living with multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs) and their caregivers. Existing frameworks and quality standards provide important conceptual direction, but few produce a pragmatic set of ready-to-use indicators. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to codevelop a disease-agnostic set of quality of care indicators with people living with MLTCs, caregivers, and health care professionals, including preliminary operational specification

Quality measures for the care of patients with narcolepsy.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) commissioned a Workgroup to develop quality measures for the care of patients with narcolepsy. Following a comprehensive literature search, 306 publications were found addressing quality care or measures. Strength of association was graded between proposed process measures and desired outcomes. Following the AASM process for quality measure development, we identified three outcomes (including one outcome measure) and seven process measures. The first desired outcome was to reduce excessive daytime sleepiness by employing two process measures: quant

Intraprocedural quality in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography: a meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES: In 2006, the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG)/the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Taskforce on Quality in Endoscopy published quality indicators for the major gastrointestinal procedures. Our primary aim was to use the published literature to assess current endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) intraprocedural performance and compare it to the targets set by the ACG/ASGE taskforce. Our secondary aim was to determine whether performance varies across different health-care settings (academic and community), study designs (prospective a

Standards of care and quality indicators for multidisciplinary care models for psoriatic arthritis in Spain.

To define and give priority to standards of care and quality indicators of multidisciplinary care for patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). A systematic literature review on PsA standards of care and quality indicators was performed. An expert panel of rheumatologists and dermatologists who provide multidisciplinary care was established. In a consensus meeting group, the experts discussed and developed the standards of care and quality indicators and graded their priority, agreement and also the feasibility (only for quality indicators) following qualitative methodology and a Delphi process

Monitoring childbirth and immediate postpartum care quality: A scoping review of indicators in high-income countries.

BACKGROUND: Most maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality occur during childbirth and the immediate postnatal period. In high-income countries, where most births occur in maternity units, systematic monitoring of care quality is essential to improve safety and reduce preventable adverse outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To identify maternal and neonatal indicators of quality-of-care at childbirth and immediate postnatal period in high-income countries, and to assess their level of validity. METHODS: This scoping review followed PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A systematic search was conducted in April 2024 (

A systematic review of the quality of information on the treatment of anxiety disorders on the internet.

A vast amount of information describing health interventions is available on the Internet. This paper describes the systematic retrieval and quality assessment of websites containing information on the treatment of anxiety disorders. Separate searches were conducted for information on generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, and specific phobia. The Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines yielded 540 results, 110 of which were eligible for inclusion. Sixty-seven unique websites were identified. The DISCE

Core Performance Measures for Migraine Headache: A Review by the American College of Physicians.

Migraine is a chronic condition that affects about 15% of the population in the United States and is characterized by recurrent, debilitating headache that lasts somewhere between 4 and 72 hours. Only 1 performance measure for migraine is currently in use in pay-for-performance programs. Although the American College of Physicians (ACP) broadly supports the role of performance measurement in performance improvement, this support is based on the principle that only measures that are evidence-based and meet high standards of methodological soundness are appropriate given their potential impact o

Quality measures for care of patients with narcolepsy: 2025 update after measure maintenance.

UNLABELLED: Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder that causes overwhelming daytime sleepiness. In an effort to continue addressing gaps and variations in care in this patient population, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Quality Measures Task Force performed quality measure maintenance on the Quality Measures for the Care of Patients with Narcolepsy (originally developed in 2015). The Quality Measures Task Force reviewed the current medical literature, including updated clinical practice guidelines and systematic literature reviews, existing narcolepsy quality measures, and performance d
