Electronic, bonding, and optical properties of 1d [CuCN]n (n = 1-10) chains, 2d [CuCN]n (n = 2-10) nanorings, and 3d [Cun (CN)n ]m (n = 4, m = 2, 3; n = 10, m = 2) tubes studied by DFT/TD-DFT methods.

The electronic, bonding, and photophysical properties of one-dimensional [CuCN](n) (n = 1-10) chains, 2-D [CuCN](n) (n = 2-10) nanorings, and 3-D [Cu(n)(CN)(n)](m) (n = 4, m = 2, 3; n = 10, m = 2) tubes are investigated by means of a multitude of computational methodologies using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent-density-functional theory (TD-DFT) methods. The calculations revealed that the 2-D [CuCN](n) (n = 2-10) nanorings are more stable than the respective 1-D [CuCN](n) (n = 2-10) linear chains. The 2-D [CuCN](n) (n = 2-10) nanorings are predicted to form 3-D [Cun (CN)(n)]

Nuclear-electronic orbital reduced explicitly correlated Hartree-Fock approach: Restricted basis sets and open-shell systems.

The nuclear electronic orbital (NEO) reduced explicitly correlated Hartree-Fock (RXCHF) approach couples select electronic orbitals to the nuclear orbital via Gaussian-type geminal functions. This approach is extended to enable the use of a restricted basis set for the explicitly correlated electronic orbitals and an open-shell treatment for the other electronic orbitals. The working equations are derived and the implementation is discussed for both extensions. The RXCHF method with a restricted basis set is applied to HCN and FHF(-) and is shown to agree quantitatively with results from RXCHF

Mimicking anesthetic-receptor interactions in jets: the propofol-isopropanol cluster.

The interaction of the general anesthetic propofol with an individual residue of threonine in the membrane receptors has been modeled in the gas phase by examining the adduct of propofol with the isopropanol side-chain. We determined the structural preferences of the cluster using a combination of mass-resolved laser spectroscopy and quantum mechanical calculations. The first electronic transition of propofol-isopropanol was recorded with vibrational resolution using resonant two-photon ionization (R2PI) and ion dip IR spectroscopy. The spectra obtained were compared with density-functional ca

A computational chemistry investigation of the mechanism of the water-assisted decomposition of trichloroethylene oxide.

Trichloroethylene oxide is a downstream product in the oxidative metabolism of trichloroethylene (TCE) and it may be involved in cytochrome P450 inactivation, protein function destruction, and nucleic acid base alkalization. To explore the hydrolysis mechanism of the decomposition of TCE oxide, an investigation using Second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory in conjunction with density functional theory has been conducted to analyze the effect of the water solvation shell on probable reaction steps. The decomposition of TCE oxide is accelerated by coordinated water molecules (up to seven

Accurate and computationally efficient prediction of thermochemical properties of biomolecules using the generalized connectivity-based hierarchy.

In this study we have used the connectivity-based hierarchy (CBH) method to derive accurate heats of formation of a range of biomolecules, 18 amino acids and 10 barbituric acid/uracil derivatives. The hierarchy is based on the connectivity of the different atoms in a large molecule. It results in error-cancellation reaction schemes that are automated, general, and can be readily used for a broad range of organic molecules and biomolecules. Herein, we first locate stable conformational and tautomeric forms of these biomolecules using an accurate level of theory (viz. CCSD(T)/6-311++G(3df,2p)).

A high-accuracy theoretical study of the CH(n)P systems n = 1-3.

We have performed high-level electronic structure computations on the most important species of the CH(n)P systems n = 1-3 to characterize them and provide reliable information about the equilibrium and vibrationally averaged molecular structures, rotational constants, vibrational frequencies (harmonic and anharmonic), formation enthalpies, and vertical excitation energies. Those chemical systems are intermediates for several important reactions and also prototypical phosphorus-carbon compounds; however, they are often elusive to experimental detection. The present results significantly comple

Conventional strain energies of azetidine and phosphetane: can density functional theory yield reliable results?

The conventional strain energies for azetidine and phosphetane are determined within the isodesmic, homodesmotic, and hyperhomodesmotic models. Optimum equilibrium geometries, harmonic vibrational frequencies, and corresponding electronic energies and zero-point vibrational energies are computed for all pertinent molecular systems using self-consistent field theory, second-order perturbation theory, and density functional theory and using the correlation consistent basis sets cc-pVDZ, cc-pVTZ, and cc-pVQZ. Single point fourth-order perturbation theory, CCSD, and CCSD(T) calculations using the

Electron attachment to POCl3. III. Measurement and kinetic modeling of branching fractions.

Electron attachment to POCl(3) was studied in the bath gas He over the pressure range 0.4-3.1 Torr and the temperature range 300-1210 K. Branching fractions of POCl(3)(-), POCl(2)(-), Cl(-), and Cl(2)(-) were measured. The results are analyzed by kinetic modeling, using electron attachment theory for the characterization of the nonthermal energy distribution of the excited POCl(3)(-∗) anions formed and chemical activation-type unimolecular rate theory for the subsequent competition between collisional stabilization of POCl(3)(-∗) and its dissociation to various dissociation products. Ab initio interatomic decay widths of excited states by applying Stieltjes imaging to Lanczos pseudospectra.

Electronically excited states of atoms and molecules in an environment may decay in interatomic processes by transferring excess energy to neighboring species and ionizing them. The corresponding interatomic decay width is the most important characteristic of the decay allowing to calculate its efficiency and the final states' distribution. In this paper we present calculations of interatomic widths by the Fano-Stieltjes method applied to Lanczos pseudospectra, which has been previously shown to provide accurate autoionization widths in atoms and molecules. The use of Lanczos pseudospectra all

Large changes of static electric properties induced by hydrogen bonding: an ab initio study of linear HCN oligomers.

We report the partitioning of the interaction-induced static electronic dipole (hyper)polarizabilities for linear hydrogen cyanide complexes into contributions arising from various interaction energy terms. We analyzed the nonadditivities of the studied properties and used these data to predict the electric properties of an infinite chain. The interaction-induced static electric dipole properties and their nonadditivities were analyzed using an approach based on numerical differentiation of the interaction energy components estimated in an external electric field. These were obtained using the

Atomistic insight into chondroitin-6-sulfate glycosaminoglycan chain through quantum mechanics calculations and molecular dynamics simulation.

Chondroitin-6-sulfate (C6S) is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) constituent in the extracellular matrix, which participates actively in crucial biological processes, as well as in various pathological conditions, such as atherosclerosis and cancer. Molecular interactions involving the C6S chain are therefore of considerable interest. A computational model for atomistic simulation was built. This work describes the design and validation of a force field for a C6S dodecasaccharide chain. The results of an extensive molecular dynamics simulation performed with the new force field provide a novel insight

Made-to-order nanocarbons through deterministic plasma nanotechnology.

Through a combinatorial approach involving experimental measurement and plasma modelling, it is shown that a high degree of control over diamond-like nanocarbon film sp3/sp2 ratio (and hence film properties) may be exercised, starting at the level of electrons (through modification of the plasma electron energy distribution function). Hydrogenated amorphous carbon nanoparticle films with high percentages of diamond-like bonds are grown using a middle-frequency (2 MHz) inductively coupled Ar+CH4 plasma. The sp3 fractions measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy

Field Digitization Scaling in a Z_{N}⊂U(1) Symmetric Model.

The simulation of quantum field theories, both classical and quantum, requires regularization of infinitely many degrees of freedom. However, in the context of field digitization (FD)-a truncation of the local fields to N discrete values-a comprehensive framework to obtain continuum results is currently missing. Here, we propose to analyze FD by interpreting the parameter N as a coupling in the renormalization group (RG) sense. As a first example, we investigate the two-dimensional (2D) classical N-state clock model as a Z_{N} FD of the U(1) symmetric XY model. Using effective field theory, we

Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless Quantum Transition in Two Dimensions.

The Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition is the prototype of a phase transition driven by the formation and interaction of topological defects in two-dimensional (2D) systems. In typical models, these are vortices: above a transition temperature TBKT, vortices are free; below this transition temperature, they get confined. In this work, we extend the concept of BKT transition to quantum systems in two dimensions. In particular, we demonstrate that a zero-temperature quantum BKT phase transition driven by a coupling constant can occur in 2D models governed by an effective gauge fiel

Applications of quantum AI in brain disorder diagnosis: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Brain disorder diagnosis and prediction remain challenging because neuroimaging, electrophysiological, behavioral, and multimodal data are high-dimensional, noisy, heterogeneous, and limited by small clinical cohorts. This systematic review synthesised applications of quantum artificial intelligence (QAI) for brain disorder diagnosis, prediction, detection, and monitoring. METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, studies published from 2016 to 13 January 2026 were retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore. After screening, 36 studies met the eligibility cri

Quantum statistical mechanics: Gauge invariance, operator shifting, hyperdensity functionals, and nonequilibrium sum rules.

We provide an extended account of the recent statistical mechanical theory of gauge invariance against operator shifting in quantum many-body systems [J. Müller and M. Schmidt, Phys. Rev. E 114, L022104 (2026)10.1103/dzz3-m28k]. The gauge transformation is enacted by a shifting superoperator that displaces the fundamental position and momentum degrees of freedom. The shifting superoperator constitutes a map between Hilbert space operators, and it features Lie algebra commutator structure. Averages of general observables remain invariant under the shifting both in and out of thermal equilibrium

Formation of the Long-Lived Parent Anion upon Electron Attachment to Menadione.

Menadione is a multifunctional molecule involved in critical biological processes such as blood coagulation, redox regulation, and cellular metabolism. Understanding its electron attachment properties and capacity to form stable anions is essential for elucidating its function in biological environments. In this study, we investigated electron attachment to menadione using a crossed electron-molecular beam experiment, complemented by quantum chemical and electron scattering calculations. Upon electron attachment, the efficient formation of the parent molecular anion is observed. Its signal ext

Contextuality, incompatibility, and intra-system entanglement of mental markers: From cognition and decision making to medicine.

Over the past two decades, quantum-like modeling (QLM) has emerged as a powerful framework for describing non-classical features of cognition and decision-making. Rather than assuming physical quantum processes in the brain, QLM employs the Hilbert space formalism to model contextuality, incompatibility of mental observables, and entanglement-like correlations. In this paper, we develop a quantum-informational model of mental markers within the broader information field approach. We propose that, under conditions of information overload and limited cognitive resources, individuals primarily re
