Arrest of root formation in relation to permanent mandibular incisors: a rare case report.

AIM: To report a rare case of arrested root formation of permanent incisors in a young boy with mixed dentition and its management. BACKGROUND: Traumatic injury to a primary tooth may damage the underlying permanent tooth germ and affect its development. The extent of the malformation depends upon the developmental stage of the permanent tooth and the intensity of trauma. Discoloration and hypoplasia of the crown, dilaceration, root angulation and disturbances in eruption are commonly seen developmental disturbances following trauma. However, partial or complete arrest of root formation is a

Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia mimicking apical periodontitis: A case report.

Cemento-osseous dysplasia may present as a focal, periapical or florid lesion in the mandible or maxilla. The lesion may sometimes appear similar to peri-radicular lesions on a periapical radiograph. This report presents a case with irreversible pulpitis and root resorption as well as a mixed radiolucent/radiopaque lesion around a mandibular molar tooth root. Root canal treatment was performed and because of the radiographic signs of root resorption and the patient's fear of having a malignant disease, periapical surgery was also performed. The histopathology report confirmed the presence of f

One- and Two-Year Efficacy of Resin Infiltration and Remineralization for the Treatment of Initial Proximal Caries.

Proximal caries presents diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Recent understanding of the etiology and pathology of dental caries has led to the adoption of non-invasive and/or minimally invasive approaches in the early stages of caries lesions. This clinical study aimed to compare the efficacy of resin infiltration and remineralization in the treatment of initial proximal caries lesions over a 1- and 2-year follow-up period. The study involved 47 patients aged between 18 and 38 years. Patients were clinically examined and underwent bitewing radiography to detect at least three initial proxi

Use of artificial intelligence software in dental education: A study on assisted proximal caries assessment in bitewing radiographs.

INTRODUCTION: Teaching of dental caries diagnostics is an essential part of dental education. Diagnosing proximal caries is a challenging task, and automated systems applying artificial intelligence (AI) have been introduced to assist in this respect. Thus, the implementation of AI for teaching purposes may be considered. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of an AI software on students' ability to detect enamel-only proximal caries in bitewing radiographs (BWs) and to assess whether proximal tooth overlap interferes with caries detection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included

[Caries prevalence and gingival inflammation in recruits in 1985: the influence of prevention].

A total of 753 conscripts (age 20) examined in 1985 showed on average 8.6 DMF teeth upon clinical examination. When subjected to a standardized examination supplemented by bite-wing radiographs of the buccal segment, 0.5 MT, 4.2 DT and 5.4 FT equivalent to a DMFT of 10.1 were found. Three per cent of the subjects were caries-free (DFT = 0). Caries experience in anterior teeth DFS greater than 0) was diagnosed in 21% of the recruits but 85% of them had suffered dentinal caries or showed fillings on the bite-wing radiographs (DFS greater than 0). Among the total of 18.8 DF sites, 5 were D sites,

Mesiodens in the primary dentition stage: a radiographic study.

Five hundred and forty-three Chinese patients in the primary dentition stage were evaluated for mesiodens with maxillary, anterior occlusal films. Compared with other studies, a higher prevalence was found, using different age-groups and diagnostic methods. The distributions of mesiodens by sex, location, and direction were also studied. Because mesiodens could interfere with normal development of the occlusion, especially in the early mixed dentition stage, early diagnosis, using appropriate radiographs during the primary dentition stage, could lead to more comprehensive treatment planning.
