RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: To characterize musculoskeletal (MSK) radiology curricula in U.S diagnostic radiology residency programs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 20-question survey was distributed to members of the Society of Skeletal Radiology and the Society for Academic Bone Radiology. Of 66 responses, 48 unique U.S. residency programs were analyzed after exclusion of foreign, unidentifiable, incomplete, and duplicate responses. Programs were categorized by size: small ≤7 (n = 21) and large >7 (n = 27) residents/year); and Doximity ranking: 1-50 (n = 22) and 51+ (n = 26).
RESULTS: Median and m…

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The optimal tools for monitoring Crohn's disease (CD) are controversial. We compared radiology plus ileocolonoscopy and radiology alone in terms of prognosis prediction and evaluated the agreement between radiologic and ileocolonoscopic findings in patients with CD.
METHODS: Patients with CD who were followed up with computed tomography enterography (CTE) or magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) alone or CTE or MRE plus ileocolonoscopy were retrospectively recruited. Time to relapse was investigated to evaluate the difference in prognosis using the log-rank and Cox regression…

BACKGROUND: Imaging is a common part of the workup for acute abdomen in childhood and adolescence. Rapid diagnosis is crucial for adequate therapy, especially in young children.
METHOD: This review is intended to provide an overview of the typical causes of acute abdomen in children and adolescents and is specifically aimed at radiologists who do not regularly work in pediatric radiology.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Age-specific peculiarities make a division into three age groups useful: Newborns, infants and toddlers, and schoolchildren. Possible causes of acute abdomen in children range from c…

Percutaneous cholecystostomy is an established procedure for the management of patients with acute cholecystitis and with significant medical comorbidities that would make laparoscopic cholecystectomy excessively risky. In this review, we will explore the role of percutaneous cholecystostomy in the management of acute cholecystitis as well as other applications in the management of biliary pathology. The indications, grading, technical considerations, and postprocedure management in the setting of acute cholecystitis are discussed. In addition, we will discuss the potential role of percutaneou

The orbits are easily identified on routine computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) imaging of the head and neck. Although there are many structures within the orbits, the overall structure of the globe is the most noticeable and can be an important source for pathology. In particular, many disease processes alter globe morphology and it is imperative that the radiologist be aware of not only the most common, but uncommon etiologies as well. This article provides an image-rich review of the wide range of emergent and non-emergent pathology that can result in altered globe

Radiology services in a combat situation are essentially centred on assisting the battle field physicians/surgeons to save/salvage life and limb. Timely and accurate detection of type and mapping of extent of injury can aid in making imaging based triage which can be of immense help to the treating physicians/trauma surgeons. With the availability of rapid assessment (clinical as well as imaging based) and quick transport facility, the focus has gradually been shifting from merely limb-saving to life-saving strategies. Providing the right imaging modality at the right time for the right patien…

BACKGROUND: Increasing numbers of conventional X‑rays, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging in the inpatient, outpatient and scientific routine leads to an increasing number of incidental findings. The correct interpretation of these incidental findings with respect to the relevance and the evaluation concerning further work-up is an important task of radiologists.
OBJECTIVE: Description of common incidental findings in musculoskeletal imaging and their clinical classification.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A PubMed literature search was performed using the following terms: incidental
