UNLABELLED: HISTORY UND CLINICAL FINDINGS: Within a few weeks, two patients aged 16 and 75 years with fever of unknown origin were referred to the emergency unit.

Serum soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) serves as a marker of disease activity in patients with tuberculosis (TB). However, little is known about its role in latent TB. The aim of this study was to assess the levels of sIL-2R in patients with latent TB and correlate them with the purified protein derivate (PPD) test results. Serum levels of soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) were measured in 15 patients with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and followed prospectively for 11.5 months (range 2-22) and also in 22 patients with PMR treated with corticosteroids for a mean period of 47 months. Signals involved in TcR gene rearrangement and expression are poorly understood. The ability of interleukin 2 to control TcR gamma gene expression was examined. Precursor thymocytes grown in the presence of IL-1 and Con A develop to CD3+ T cells that express either the TcR alpha/beta or gamma/delta complex on the cell surface (1). The expression of the interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R) was investigated in a total of 117 cases of acute leukaemia and lymphoproliferative disorder. The results confirm reports that the interleukin-2 receptor can be expressed on cells of myeloid lineage and in cases of Hairy Cell Leukaemia. They extend knowledge of the expression of the IL-2R in cases of lymphoproliferative disorders.
