Intelligent Rehabilitation: Advances in Artificial Intelligence for Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation: A Narrative Review.

Musculoskeletal diseases, such as osteoarthritis and joint trauma, significantly impact patient mobility, independence, and quality of life. With the rising demand for effective and accessible rehabilitation strategies, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool to support diagnosis, surgical planning, and personalized rehabilitation. This narrative review summarizes recent advances in the application of AI in musculoskeletal disease management, with a particular emphasis on postoperative and conservative rehabilitation. We outline the foundational concepts of AI, including ma

Focusing on sexual rehabilitation besides penile rehabilitation following radical prostatectomy is important.

Erectile dysfunction is commonly reported after radical prostatectomy. Besides the loss of erections, sexual life after prostatectomy is impacted by urinary incontinence, orgasmic dysfunction, and psychological stress. In this review, we describe classical medical therapies used for erectile function rehabilitation such as PDE5 inhibitors and injection therapy. A vast amount of data support the idea of focusing on restoration of sexual function on top of erectile function after prostatectomy. The important strategies described to rehabilitate sexual function include pelvic floor muscle therapy

COVID-19 rehabilitation units are twice as expensive as regular rehabilitation units.

OBJECTIVE: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant motor, cognitive, psychological, neurological and cardiological disabilities in many infected patients. Functional rehabilitation of infectious COVID-19 patients has been implemented in the acute care wards and in appropriate, ad hoc, multidisciplinary COVID-19 rehabilitation units. However, because COVID-19 rehabilitation units are a clinical novelty, clinical and organizational benchmarks are not yet available. The aim of this study is to describe the organizational needs and operational costs of such a unit, by comparing its activity,

Rehabilitation in chronic respiratory diseases: In-hospital and post-exacerbation pulmonary rehabilitation.

Exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that require hospitalization are important events for patients. Functional impairment and skeletal muscle dysfunction can increase the risk of hospitalization and readmission, independent of lung function. In addition, once a patient is admitted, multiple factors can lead to worsening outcome including immobility, systemic inflammation and nutritional depletion. These non-pulmonary factors are potentially amenable to exercise therapy, as part of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR). Peri-exacerbation PR has an important role in the managem

Addressing Gaps in Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Evaluation of a Virtual Pulmonary Rehabilitation Platform.

BACKGROUND: Traditional brick-and-mortar pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) programs remain substantially underutilized, with only 2.7% of Medicare beneficiaries completing PR within 12 months following a COPD exacerbation hospitalization. Given the critical role of PR in improving exercise tolerance, quality of life, and reducing readmissions, innovative delivery models are needed to address this massive utilization gap. Virtual PR platforms have emerged as a potential solution, offering scalable, and home-based rehabilitation. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a novel virtual pulmonary rehabi

Older people's rehabilitation and recovery. Get up, stand up for geriatric rehabilitation.

Effective health care for older people depends on a network of interconnected services across a variety of different settings that are all well developed, organised and financed. Preventive care, long term care, palliative care, and acute care in both hospital and community settings all play important, mutually dependent roles. Rehabilitation is important for patients in each of these contexts-it can play a role in recovery after acute or subacute health problems such as a hip fracture, stroke and pneumonia. This collection draws attention to the subject and, by sharing the state-of-the-art to

Post-stroke rehabilitation: Factors predicting discharge to acute versus subacute rehabilitation facilities.

The aim of this study was to examine predictors of discharge of hospitalized stroke patients to either an acute inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) or subacute skilled nursing facility (SNF).A retrospective cohort study was done in a large multicampus urban academic medical center of individuals hospitalized for stroke between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015 and who were discharged to either an IRF (n = 84) or SNF (n = 59). A set of characteristics and scales were collected on each patient and assessed using univariate and multivariate regression analyses.Although univariate analyses

Post-Myocardial Infarction Rehabilitation: The Absence in the Rehabilitation Process of the Diaphragm Muscle.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. There can be many reasons that cause MI, such as a sedentary lifestyle, a disordered diet, harmful habits such as smoking and alcoholism, concomitant congenital or acquired systemic pathologies. Patients who survive the acute event suffer a functional alteration of multiple body systems. The various cardiology associations recommend starting a rehabilitation process, pursuing the main objective of improving the patient's health status. A negative consequence that can be linked to MI is the dysfunction of the main breat

OBJECTIVE: To contribute to the discussion on the research-practice gap by illustrating obstacles and opportunities that arise in an evidence-informed improvement process of prosthetic rehabilitation in a local setting. SETTING: Dutch rehabilitation centre. PRESUPPOSITION: The improvement process was considered as a two-way translation process rather than a unidirectional process of knowledge transfer between science and practice. METHOD: Case study and participatory research methods comprising documentary analysis, treatment observations, individual and focus groups interviews, and literatu

[Rehabilitation treatment of patients with uncomplicated fractures of the spine at a hospital rehabilitation center].

The authors make an analysis of treatment of 188 patients with noncomplicated compressive fractures of the vertebral column in the thoracolumbar part performed at the stationary rehabilitation center. The course of restorative treatment was as long as 31-40 days and included individual and group trainings of exercise therapy, massage, hydrokinesotherapy, thermo-, electro-, photo- and magnetotherapy. Results of the treatment were followed in 81 patients. Excellent and good results were obtained in 43 patients (53%), unsatisfactory--in 7 patients (8.6%). The period of follow-up observation was f

Nutrition rehabilitation and the importance of the perception of malnutrition in the follow-up of rehabilitated children.

Nutrition rehabilitation of malnourished children remains a challenge for health services. This paper reports the results of an evaluation of the nutrition component of a mother and child health program in Nepal. The treatment of severely malnourished children was very satisfactory: case fatality rate varied from 4 to 9 % between projects. Follow-up, however, was found to be very poor: only one percent of the discharged children came for a follow-up visit after the first two weeks. The perception of malnutrition within the communities was identified as one of the possible determinants for a su

[Long covid pulmonary rehabilitation].

While the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has left a lasting impression, the long-term effects of this virus, such as persistent symptoms or long COVID, remain unclear. However, recommendations from learned societies for improving these symptoms exist and are being applied by a number of respiratory rehabilitation centers. In this paper, we provide a summary of the specificities of long COVID care in the context of respiratory rehabilitation, particularly as regards respiratory symptoms, fatigue, cognitive disorders, and cardiovascular symptoms and, more specifically, vegetative dysautonomia.
