Breast calcification and mass detection with mammographic anode-filter combinations of molybdenum, tungsten, and rhodium.

PURPOSE: To determine whether contrast loss on mammograms obtained with tungsten (W)-molybdenum (Mo), rhodium (Rh)-Rh, and W-Rh anode-filter units affects calcification and mass detection relative to that on mammograms obtained with Mo-Mo anode-filter units. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three unfixed cadaveric breasts of 4.0-, 5.5-, or 7.0-cm thickness were imaged with three mammographic units with Mo-Mo, W-Mo, Rh-Rh, and W-Rh anode-filter combinations. Calcification clusters (<300 microm in diameter) and masses (0.5-1.2 cm) placed on the cadaveric breasts simulated abnormal mammograms. Thirty-five

Effect of a rhodium complex on alterations of hepatic function in thioacetamide-induced hyperplastic noduligenesis in rats.

An in vivo model of liver hyperplastic noduligenesis was induced in rats by long-term administration of thioacetamide (TAM) (50 mg/kg/day i.p.). Three doses of 50 mg/kg of an antitumoral Rh(III) complex were administered at 14, 9 and 5 days before the end of TAM treatment. Plasma and urine were obtained from either TAM or Rh(III) complex or TAM plus Rh(III) complex treated rats to determine the interactions of both substances with the biochemical parameters related to liver function. The rise in alkaline phosphatase (ALP), leucine aminopeptidase (LAP), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and the

Rhodium-Catalyzed Chemo-Divergent Reaction between Oxetan-3-ones/Azetidin-3-ones and Arylboronic Acids.

Herein, we report a rhodium-catalyzed chemo-divergent reaction of oxetan-3-one and azetidin-3-ones with arylboronic acids. Ligand and temperature control selectively provide access to either tertiary alcohols (3-aryl oxetanols/azetidinols) via direct carbonyl addition or α-oxy/α-amino ketones via β-carbon elimination-initiated ring opening. This methodology bypasses stoichiometric organometallic reagents and specialized precursors, offering broad functional group tolerance and efficient access to carboxylic acid bioisosteres, while establishing a versatile catalytic platform for diversifying a

Synthesis of Furans via Rhodium(III)-Catalyzed Cyclization of Acrylic Acids with α-Diazocarbonyl Compounds.

An efficient protocol for the synthesis of furans through Rh(III)-catalyzed vinyl C-H activation from acrylic acids and α-diazocarbonyl compounds has been developed. The reaction features broad functional group tolerance and affords a series of furans in moderate to good yields. Moreover, no additives such as copper or silver salts are required. Some control experiments are performed to give insight into the mechanism of this cascade transformation and the decarbonylation process is involved in the formation of the furan product.

Rhodium(iii)-catalyzed ortho-alkenylation using a cyclic N-phosphoryl ketimine as the directing group.

A novel cyclic N-phosphoryl ketimine structure can efficiently react with olefins as useful directing groups to construct a myriad of phosphate scaffolds via rhodium(iii)-catalyzed ortho-alkenylation. This method provides a probability that the coupling products could be used as a building block to access more complex organic phosphorus compounds.

Heteroatom-substituted secondary phosphine oxides (HASPOs) as decomposition products and preligands in rhodium-catalysed hydroformylation.

O,O'-3,3'-Di-tert-butyl-5,5'-dimethoxy-1,1'-biphenyl-2,2'-diyl phosphonate (1) is the hydrolysis product of several mono- and bis-phosphites used as ligands in industrial hydroformylation and other catalytic reactions. As a result of a tautomeric equilibrium, this pentavalent heteroatom-substituted phosphine oxide (HASPO) can rearrange to the corresponding trivalent phosphorus compound. The latter is able to react with typical rhodium-containing precursors frequently used for the generation of catalysts. The resulting species were characterised by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray structure analysis.

[1,3-Bis(diphenyl-phosphino)propane-κP,P']diiodido(perfluoro-propyl)rhodium(III) dichloro-methane solvate.

The structure of the title compound, [RhI(2)(C(3)F(7))(C(27)H(26)P(2))]·CH(2)Cl(2), at 110 (2) K is an unusual example of a structurally characterized square-based pyramidal alkyl complex of rhodium(III). The Rh-C bond is relatively short at 1.996 (6) Å. This short metal-carbon bond length is typical of perfluoro complexes of transition metals and illustrates the enhanced bond strength in these compounds.

Lattice Dynamics of van der Waals Layered Rhodium Chalcochlorides: Janus RhSeCl and 1.5-Dimensional RhTeCl.

van der Waals layered rhodium chalcochlorides demonstrate a unique interplay between the structure of the layers and the size of the anions. While RhSeCl has a 2D Janus structure with Se and Cl on opposite sides of the layers, RhTeCl forms a non-Janus structure with alternating stripes of Cl and Te. Here, we study the lattice dynamics of these semiconductors by a combination of far-infrared and Raman spectroscopy and DFT phonon calculations. Polarization-dependent measurements enabled the complete assignment of all Raman-active modes of both compounds. The resonance effects in Raman scattering

Supramolecular Assembly of a Macrocyclic Rhodium(I) Isocyanide Complex with Long-Lived Near-Infrared Luminescence.

Strategic ligand engineering is essential for the development of new photoactive transition metal complexes. One such application is the control of supramolecular, one-dimensional stacking of square-planar d8-organometallic systems. Here, we report the synthesis of a macrocyclic, tetradentate isocyanide ligand, CN4, and facile coordination to rhodium(I) yielding [Rh(CN4)][BArF4]. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction upon acetone-solution grown crystals reveals formation of a tetrameric RhI stack, constructed of two dimeric forms of monomers. UV-visible absorption spectroscopy shows two prominent a

Rhodium-Catalyzed β-Acylalkylation of Allylbenzene Derivatives with Allyl Alcohols via C-C Bond Cleavage.

We report here a deallylative β-acylalkylation reaction of allylbenzene derivatives with allyl alcohols in the presence of Cp*Rh catalysts. Allylbenzenes possessing pyridyl and pyrazolyl directing groups were converted to β-aryl ketones via the cleavage of C(aryl)-C(allyl) bonds. Synthesis of a quinoline derivative from a β-aryl ketone product bearing a pyrazolyl group was also achieved.

Reductive removal of selenate (VI) in aqueous solution using rhodium metal particles supported on TiO2.

Selenium and its compounds in high concentration are toxic for humans, especially selenate (VI) is the most toxic due to its high solubility in water. To promote the reductive reaction of Se(vi) to Se(iv) or Se(0), which is relatively easy to remove in water, noble metal particles were added as reaction sites with a reductant. The highest removal performance of selenate in aqueous solution was achieved using rhodium particles supported on TiO2 (Rh/TiO2). Selenate was rapidly reduced with hydrazine on the metal particle, leading to a selenium deposition on the particle inhibiting the stable red

Rhodium-catalyzed directed C-H cyanation of arenes with N-cyano-N-phenyl-p-toluenesulfonamide.

A Rh-catalyzed directed C-H cyanation reaction was developed for the first time as a practical method for the synthesis of aromatic nitriles. N-Cyano-N-phenyl-p-toluenesulfonamide, a user-friendly cyanation reagent, was used in the transformation. Many different directing groups can be used in this C-H cyanation process, and the reaction tolerates a variety of synthetically important functional groups.

1,5-Migration of rhodium via C-H bond activation in catalytic decyanative silylation of nitriles.

Unprecedented aryl-to-aryl 1,5-rhodium migration is involved in decyanative silylation of aryl cyanides bearing a tethered arene. The 1,5-migration proceeds through remote C-H bond activation. 1,5-Migration also occurs in other rhodium-catalyzed reactions, including borylation and oxidative Mizoroki-Heck reactions.

Synthesis of Cyclopentenones through Rhodium-Catalyzed C-H Annulation of Acrylic Acids with Formaldehyde and Malonates.

An efficient rhodium-catalyzed protocol for the synthesis of cyclopentenones based on a three-component reaction of acrylic acids, formaldehyde, and malonates via vinylic C-H activation is reported. Exploratory studies showed that 5-alkylation of as-prepared cyclopentenones could be realized smoothly by the treatment of a variety of alkyl halides with a Na2CO3/MeOH solution. Excess formaldehyde and malonate led to a multicomponent reaction that afforded the multisubstituted cyclopentenones through a Michael addition.

Preparation and Degradation of Rhodium and Iridium Diolefin Catalysts for the Acceptorless and Base-Free Dehydrogenation of Secondary Alcohols.

Rhodium and iridium diolefin catalysts for the acceptorless and base-free dehydrogenation of secondary alcohols have been prepared, and their degradation has been investigated, during the study of the reactivity of the dimers [M(μ-Cl)(η4-C8H12)]2 (M = Rh (1), Ir (2)) and [M(μ-OH)(η4-C8H12)]2 (M = Rh (3), Ir (4)) with 1,3-bis(6'-methyl-2'-pyridylimino)isoindoline (HBMePHI). Complex 1 reacts with HBMePHI, in dichloromethane, to afford equilibrium mixtures of 1, the mononuclear derivative RhCl(η4-C8H12){κ1-N py-(HBMePHI)} (5), and the binuclear species [RhCl(η4-C8H12)]2{μ-N py,N py-(HBMePHI)} (6)

Lessons learned from studies with the freshwater mussel Dreissena polymorpha exposed to platinum, palladium and rhodium.

The platinum group elements (PGE) platinum, palladium and rhodium gain increasing (eco-)toxicological interest due to their cumulative introduction into ecosystems. So far, most PGE exposure studies investigating biological availability, uptake and bioaccumulation of PGE as well as their effects on different toxicological endpoints were performed under non-standardized conditions which occasionally make an interpretation and comparison of the results difficult. Here we compare the results of different PGE exposure studies with zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) showing influences due to the

Rhodium-catalyzed oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols and aldehydes: effective conversion of amines and anilines into amides.

The rhodium-catalyzed oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols and aldehydes is reported. In situ generated [(BINAP)Rh]BF4 catalyzes the one-pot isomerization/oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols or direct amidation of aldehydes using acetone or styrene as the hydrogen acceptor. The conditions are general, affording good to excellent yields with a wide array of amine and aniline nucleophiles, and chemoselective, other alcohols do not participate in the oxidation reaction. Utilization of biphasic conditions is critical, as they promote an equilibrium between the imine/enamine byproducts and t

Rhodium-catalyzed oxidative C-H activation/cyclization for the synthesis of phosphaisocoumarins and phosphorous 2-pyrones.

Rhodium-catalyzed cyclization of phosphinic acids and phosphonic monoesters with alkynes has been developed. The oxidative annulation proceeds with complete conversion of phosphinic acid derivatives and allowed the atom-economic preparation of useful phosphaisocoumarins with high yield and selectivity. The reaction is tolerant of extensive substitution on the phosphinic acid, phosphonic monoester and alkyne, including halides, ketone, and hydroxyl groups as substituents. Furthermore, we found that alkenylphosphonic monoesters proceed to give a wide range of phosphorus 2-pyrones through oxidati
