Sodium rutin ameliorates Alzheimer's disease-like pathology by enhancing microglial amyloid-β clearance.

The accumulation of aggregated amyloid-β (Aβ) in the brain is the first critical step in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), which also includes synaptic impairment, neuroinflammation, neuronal loss, and eventual cognitive defects. Emerging evidence suggests that impairment of Aβ phagocytosis and clearance is a common phenotype in late-onset AD. Rutin (quercetin-3-rutinoside) has long been investigated as a natural flavonoid with different biological functions in some pathological circumstances. Sodium rutin (NaR), could promote Aβ clearance by increasing microglial by increasing the

Therapeutic potential of flavonoids and rutin against inflammation-induced on a huntington animal model.

This study tested the hypothesis that flavonoids (diosmine, hesperidin and rutin®) play a protective role in the brain and duodenum against 3-Nitropropionic acid (3-NPA) free radical induced inflammation. This was achieved by measuring the levels of GABA, 5-HIAA, dopamine and some inflammation and oxidative stress markers. Male young Wistar rats (weight 60g) received Salmonella thyphimurium ATCC14028 1x106 CFU/g every week, for two consecutive weeks, plus the following treatments: group A, 0.9% NaCl (Control); group B, diosmine (300 mg) + hesperidin (33.3g) + rutin (150 mg/kg); group C, 3-NPA;

Synergistic Effects and Mechanisms of Action of Rutin with Conventional Antibiotics Against Escherichia coli.

Rutin is a widely known plant secondary metabolite that exhibits multiple physiological functions. The present study focused on screening for synergistic antibacterial combinations containing rutin, and further explored the mechanisms behind this synergy. In vitro antibacterial test results of rutin showed that the ranges of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and Minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) are 0.125-1 and 0.125-2 mg/mL, respectively. However, rutin and amikacin have a significant synergistic effect, with a fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) range of 0.1875-0.5.

A highly soluble form of rutin for instant resolution of mask-wearing related disorders.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic brought about a new normal, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like face shields, surgical masks, gloves, and goggles. However, prolonged mask-wearing introduced skin-related issues due to changes in the skin's microenvironment, including increased humidity and temperature, as well as pressure on the skin. These factors led to skin deformation, vascular issues, edema, and inflammation, resulting in discomfort and cosmetic concerns. Clinical reports quickly highlighted the consequences of long-term mask use, including increased cases o

Rutin ameliorates nitrergic and endothelial dysfunction on vessels and corpora cavernosa of diabetic animals.

Endothelial dysfunction is an early complication of diabetes and it is related to both micro- and macroangiopathies. In addition, >70% of diabetic patients develop autonomic neuropathies. Increased oxidative stress has a major role in the development of both nitrergic and endothelial dysfunction. The aim of this work is to evaluate whether rutin, a potent antioxidant, could ameliorate nitrergic and/or endothelial dysfunction in diabetic animals. Primary and secondary treatment protocols with rutin were investigated on rat aortic rings and the mesenteric arteriolar bed, and on rabbit aortic rin

Rutin ameliorates malaria pathogenesis by modulating inflammatory mechanism: an in vitro and in vivo study.

Rutin (3, 3', 4' 5 and 7-pentahydroxyflavone-3-rhamnoglucoside) is a flavonoid glycoside, found in many edible plants such as buckwheat and berries. Severe malaria is an inflammatory response triggered by oxidative stress that results in multi-organ pathologies and a high mortality rate in children and pregnant women worldwide. Rutin is recommended as a food supplement for the treatment of various diseases due to its anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, which prompted us to investigate its ameliorative effects in severe malaria pathogenesis against oxidative stress and inflammatory

Therapeutic potential of treatment with the flavonoid rutin after cortical focal ischemia in rats.

Flavonoids have known anti-inflammatory and antioxidative actions, and they have been described as neuroprotective and able to reduce damage in CNS diseases. We evaluated the action of the flavonoid rutin in an animal model of focal cortical ischemia induced by unilateral thermocoagulation of superficial blood vessels of motor (M1) and somatosensory (S1) primary cortices. Ischemic rats were submitted to daily injections (i.p.) for five days, starting immediately after induction of ischemia. We tested two doses: 50mg/kg or 100mg/kg of body weight. Sensorimotor tests were used to evaluate functi

Oxidative stress in rheumatoid arthritis leukocytes: suppression by rutin and other antioxidants and chelators.

The enhanced production of superoxide ion and peroxynitrite by bloodstream neutrophils and of superoxide ion by monocytes from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients was registered. It was suggested that NADPH oxidase together with NO synthase were the major sources of superoxide ion in RA neutrophils, while in RA monocytes superoxide ion was produced by NADPH oxidase and mitochondria. Among the different free radical inhibitors studied (antioxidant enzymes, SOD and catalase; free radical scavengers, bioflavonoid rutin and mannitol; and the iron chelator desferrioxamine), SOD and rutin were the mo

Protective effects of rutin and quercetin against diazinon-induced toxicity in Wistar Rat Liver.

Diazinon is extensively used as an insecticide or pesticide in agriculture. This insecticide can be absorbed by the human body through inhalation, oral ingestion, and skin, leading to human poisoning. The liver is the first organ affected by diazinon. The present study focused on the recovery of antioxidant biomarkers, including malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and reduced glutathione (GSH), in addition to the acetylcholinesterase activity (AChE), using two flavonoids, namely rutin and quercetin, in the rat liver. The antioxidant properties of these two compou

Liposome-Encapsulated Rutin Attenuates Cisplatin-Induced Ototoxicity via Suppression of P53-Associated Oxidative Injury.

Cisplatin (CDDP) is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent, but its clinical applications are constrained by ototoxic side effects. Currently, few effective strategies exist to prevent or mitigate CDDP-induced ototoxicity. Rutin is known for its cell-protective effects by reducing oxidative stress and inhibiting apoptosis. However, its limited water solubility and inefficient delivery to the inner ear pose substantial challenges. To address this, rutin is encapsulated in liposomes (Lip-Rutin) for nanoscale drug delivery, leveraging its antioxidant properties. Lip-Rutin markedly attenuates CDDP-i

Rutin ameliorates sevoflurane-induced neurotoxicity by inhibiting microglial synaptic phagocytosis through the complement pathway.

Repeated neonatal exposure to sevoflurane may impair synapses and lead to developmental neurobehavioral issues. In this study, we assessed the therapeutic effects of rutin on sevoflurane-induced neurotoxicity. The mice were exposed to 3% sevoflurane for 2 h daily on postnatal days (PNDs) 6, 8, and 10. The Morris water maze was used and an open field test was performed to assess the memory and anxiety-like behavior of the mice on PNDs 37-42. The effects of rutin on the complement cascade and microglial synaptic elimination in the hippocampus of mice were validated by Western blotting, real-time

Rutin Modulates MAPK Pathway Differently from Quercetin in Angiotensin II-Induced H9c2 Cardiomyocyte Hypertrophy.

Rutin is a flavonoid with antioxidant property. It has been shown to exert cardioprotection against cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. However, studies regarding its antihypertrophic property are still lacking, whether it demonstrates similar antihypertrophic effect to its metabolite, quercetin. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the effects of both flavonoids on oxidative stress and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway in H9c2 cardiomyocytes that were exposed to angiotensin II (Ang II) to induce hypertrophy. Cardiomyocytes were exposed to Ang II (600 nM) with or without quercetin (331

Gelatin hydrogel/contact lens composites as rutin delivery systems for promoting corneal wound healing.

Corneal wound healing is a highly regulated biological process that is of importance for reducing the risk of blinding corneal infections and inflammations. Traditional eye drop was the main approach for promoting corneal wound healing. However, its low bioavailability required a high therapeutic concentration, which can lead to ocular or even systemic side effects. To develop a safe and effective method for treating corneal injury, we fabricated rutin-encapsulated gelatin hydrogel/contact lens composites by dual crosslinking reactions including in situ free radical polymerization and carboxym
