Outcomes of children with clear cell sarcoma of kidney following NWTS strategies in Shanghai China (2003-2021).

BACKGROUND: Although clear cell sarcoma of kidney (CCSK) is rare, it is the second most common renal tumor in children after Wilms' tumor. NWTS and SIOP are two major groups which had made tremendous efforts on renal tumors, but the strategies are different, for NWTS follows the upfront surgery principle providing definite pathology and the SIOP follows the upfront chemotherapy principle, each has its own advantages. Here we aimed to evaluate the outcomes of CCSK in China following NWTS strategies to analyze the prognostic factors. METHODS: For this multicenter retrospective study, a total of

Superficial paramucosal clear cell sarcoma of the soft parts resembling melanoma in a 13-year-old boy.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) of tendons and aponeuroses, also known as melanoma of soft parts, represents an aggressive rare malignancy that is characterized by a nested or fascicular pattern of spindled cells and a pathognomonic reciprocal translocation, t(12;22)(q13;q12), that results in the fusion of EWSR1 and ATF1 genes. Numerous recent studies have recognized the importance of a cutaneous CCS variant that can mimic a broad spectrum of entities, including spindle cell melanoma, spindle cell squamous carcinoma, cutaneous leiomyosarcoma and atypical fibroxanthoma. We report a case of a 13-year-o

Clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeuroses with t(12;22) (q13;q12) diagnosed initially as malignant melanoma.

Cytogenetic analysis performed on a specimen from an inguinal lymph node metastasis of a tumor diagnosed initially as a cutaneous malignant melanoma revealed the following karyotype: 50,XX, +2, +7, +8, +8, t(12;22) (q13;q12). The finding of t(12;22) (q13;q12), an abnormality specific of clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeuroses (CCS), prompted reanalysis of histologic slides, and a final diagnosis of CCS was made. Our case illustrates the usefulness of cytogenetic analysis in the differential diagnosis of CCS and malignant melanoma. In addition, extra copies of chromosomes 8, 7, and 2, pre

A Rare Clinical Presentation With a Difficult Imaging Diagnosis of an Intra-articular Clear Cell Sarcoma of the Knee.

Clear cell sarcoma, a highly aggressive cell sarcoma with melanotic differentiation, typically occurs in the tendon and aponeuroses of the lower extremities and rarely develops in the intra-articular region. Herein, we present an extremely rare case of clear cell sarcoma originating from the intra-articular knee and suspected as benign tumors due to the benign-looking findings on MRI and PET/CT. The image results in our case were completely consistent with a tenosynovial giant cell tumor, resulting in the misdiagnosis. For differential diagnosis, especially malignant melanoma, histopathology,

Paraplegia after transcatheter artery chemoembolization in a child with clear cell sarcoma of the kidney: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a common treatment for inoperable malignant renal tumors. However, a series of complications may follow the TACE treatment. Spinal cord injury caused by the embolization of intercostal or lumbar arteries is extremely rare. CASE SUMMARY: We describe a case with quite uncommon spinal cord injury after TACE in a 3-year-old child with clear cell sarcoma of the kidney. Sensory impairment beneath the T10 dermatomes and paraplegia on the day after TACE were found in this patient. Unfortunately, sustained paraplegia still existed for more

Significance of MRI in the diagnosis and differentiation of clear cell sarcoma of tendon and aponeurosis (CCSTA): A case report.

RATIONALE: Clear cell sarcoma of tendon and aponeurosis (CCSTA) or soft parts is a rare malignant melanin producing tumor entity that is derived from the neural crest cells originating from soft tissues displaying melanocytic differentiation. Diagnosis of CCSTA is difficult as it is dependent on age, size, location, necrosis, calcifications, cystic degeneration, and local to distant metastatic deposits. These tumors have very poor prognosis with a survival rate of 5-10 years because of local recurrence, early to late metastasis to lymph nodes, lungs, bones, and liver. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 30-y

Cytological Features of Clear Cell Sarcoma in Exfoliative and Effusion Cytology Specimen-A Case Report and Literature Review.

Clear cell sarcoma of soft tissue (CCSST) with malignant effusion is a rare yet clinically aggressive appearance, which may pose a diagnostic pitfall with its overlapping cytomorphologic features with metastatic melanoma and carcinoma. In this article, we reported a case with metastatic clear cell sarcoma of soft tissue with positive cytological findings in the sputum, as well as the peritoneal fluid and pericardial fluid. The cytological findings were compared and contrasted with cases reported in the literature. Malignant effusion cytology, variable positivity of melanocytic immunocytochemis

Clear Cell Sarcoma of the Knee: A Case Report of Diagnostic Challenges, Rapid Metastatic Spread, and Treatment Dilemmas.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is a rare, aggressive soft tissue sarcoma with a strong predilection for the extremities. It is often misdiagnosed as melanoma. Despite surgical resection, CCS carries a high risk of early metastasis, most commonly to the lungs, bones, and lymph nodes, with limited effective systemic therapies available. We present the case of a 48-year-old man with CCS of the knee, initially presenting as a localized disease but rapidly progressing to widespread metastasis within three months. The patient underwent radical resection with knee arthroplasty and adjuvant radiotherapy, fo

Diagnostic dilemma: late presentation of amelanotic BRAF-negative metastatic malignant melanoma resembling clear cell sarcoma: a case report.

UNLABELLED: Clear cell sarcoma is a rare cancer primarily of tendons, fascia, and aponeuroses that can be difficult to discern from primary cutaneous malignant melanoma. The two cancers share several histological markers, with most cases of both cancers staining positively for S-100, HMB-45, and melanin. Primary therapy of both cancers involves wide local excision, but while systemic therapy has proven benefit for malignant melanoma, it has not been established for clear cell sarcoma. We report the case of a 58 year old woman with a large, ulcerated, fungating mass on her left lower leg. Frozen

Cadonilimab in the treatment of advanced metastatic soft tissue clear cell sarcoma achieved complete remission: a case report.

Soft tissue sarcoma is highly heterogeneous, and clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is a rare, aggressive subtype prone to recurrence and lymph node or lung metastasis. This report describes a patient with upper-limb CCS who developed postoperative recurrence and pulmonary metastasis. After transient benefit from first-line doxorubicin plus ifosfamide chemotherapy, the disease progressed despite second-line PD-1 inhibitor combined with anlotinib. Treatment was subsequently switched to cadonilimab, a PD-1/CTLA-4 bispecific antibody, in combination therapy, resulting in a progression-free survival of more

Postoperative multiple metastasis of clear cell sarcoma-like tumor of the gastrointestinal tract in adolescent: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Clear cell sarcoma-like tumor of the gastrointestinal tract (CCSLGT) is a rare malignant gastrointestinal mesenchymal soft tissue tumor. Its genetic feature is EWSR1 gene rearrangement. Histologically, it is often accompanied by a varying number of CD68-positive osteoclast-like giant cells. CCSLGT mostly occurs in the small intestinal wall of young people and children. In terms of clinical manifestations, there is no significant difference between it and other gastrointestinal tumors, and the diagnosis depends on immunohistochemistry and gene detection. CASE SUMMARY: A 16-year-old

Malignant melanoma is genetically distinct from clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeurosis (malignant melanoma of soft parts).

Clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeuroses (malignant melanoma of soft parts) and conventional malignant melanoma may demonstrate significant morphologic overlap at the light microscopic and ultrastructural level. Consequently, the clinically relevant distinction between primary clear cell sarcoma and metastatic melanoma in the absence of a known primary cutaneous, mucosal or ocular tumour may occasionally cause diagnostic problems. A balanced translocation, t(12;22)(q13;q13), which can be detected, amongst others, using the reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or fluore

Establishment of a new continuous clear cell sarcoma cell line. Morphological and cytogenetic characterization and detection of chimaeric EWS/ATF-1 transcripts.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS), a rare tumour of deep soft tissues, often has a t(12; 22) (q13; q12) translocation that induces the formation of a hybrid EWS/ATF-1 gene. To investigate these alterations further, we established a new continuous cell line directly from a CCS taken from a 9-year-old girl. The cultures were characterized with respect to morphological, ultrastructural, immunohistochemical and karyotypical features and were tested by reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) for chimaeric EWS/ATF-1 transcripts. The continuous cell line, designated KAO, is tumorigenic in nude mice, and the result

Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney with inferior vena cava tumor thrombus in a pediatric patient: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK) is a rare and highly aggressive pediatric renal malignancy with a marked propensity for metastatic spread. Cases of CCSK associated with inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombus (IVCTT) are exceptionally uncommon in the literature. We report a case of CCSK with IVCTT in a 15-month-old male infant. CASE DESCRIPTION: We reported a case admitted in May 2020 for a 3-day history of fever and hematuria. Abdominal CT revealed an unevenly enhanced mass and low-density shadows within the IVC. The diagnosis of CCSK was confirmed via needle biopsy. The

Advanced Stage Clear Cell Ovarian Carcinoma Mimicking Uterine Sarcoma Without Gross Residual Tumor During Primary Surgery: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Clear cell ovarian carcinoma is rare and accounts for 1%-12% of ovarian epithelial carcinomas, depending on ethnicity. The prevalence of clear cell ovarian carcinoma in Asian, White, and Black women is 11.1%%, 4.8%, and 3.1%, respectively. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) shows that clear cell ovarian carcinomas are typically unilocular cyst-solid (34.9%) or multilocular-solid (41.4%); only 23.7% are solid with papillary projections. MRI can detect clear cell ovarian carcinoma with a sensitivity and specificity of 90% and 87%, respectively. Notably, sometimes ovarian masses have a

Cutaneous clear cell sarcoma: a clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular analysis of 12 cases emphasizing its distinction from dermal melanoma.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) of tendons and aponeuroses/malignant melanoma (MM) of soft parts is a rare tumor and in the majority of cases presents a characteristic reciprocal translocation t(12;22)(q13;q12) that results in fusion of the EWS and ATF1 genes. Although the melanocytic differentiation of CCS is indisputable, its precise lineage remains unclear. Typically, the slowly growing tumor affects the extremities of adolescents or young adults, especially around the ankle and foot. CCS is classically regarded as a deep soft tissue tumor associated with tendons or aponeuroses. This traditional v

Paraganglioma-like dermal melanocytic tumor: a unique entity distinct from cellular blue nevus, clear cell sarcoma, and cutaneous melanoma.

We are reporting a previously undescribed primary dermal melanocytic tumor identified by reviewing all dermal melanocytic tumors referred in consultation that did not qualify histologically as a previously described entity. From these cases, 8 were remarkably similar. We termed them "paraganglioma-like dermal melanocytic tumor" (PDMT) based on their nested growth pattern. This term is used descriptively and does not imply any histogenetic or biologic similarity to true paraganglioma. PDMT is primarily a tumor of the extremities of adult females (18-53 years, mean 35 years; males 2; females 6)
