Primary PSC in the lung is a rare malignant cancer that represents a particularly aggressive subtype of non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLC) containing sarcoma or sarcoma-like components with spindle or giant cell features. The medical literature referring to imaging characteristics by fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (¹⁸F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) of these tumors is very limited. We present a case of PSC with air crescent and halo signs that resemble aspergilloma on the ¹⁸F-FDG PET/CT, scan.

Ewing sarcoma is a malignant, small, round, blue cell tumor that often affects the long bones and pelvis. It is rarely seen in the bones of the hand. A minority of Ewing sarcoma cases arise in soft tissue. This case report details the clinical and radiological presentation of an extraosseous Ewing sarcoma of the index finger in a 22-year-old woman. Treatment consisted of an index ray amputation followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. After 1 year, the left hand had excellent function with an acceptable cosmetic appearance and no evidence of metastasis or local recurrence.

Ewing sarcoma (ES) is an undifferentiated round cell sarcoma affecting children and young adults. It is characterized by gene fusions involving one of the gene members of FET family ( EWSR1 ) and ETS transcription family members. Recent studies have observed certain undifferentiated round cell sarcomas with EWSR1 -non-ETS fusions, particularly EWSR1::NFATC2 fusion. We identified 5 cases of EWSR1::NFATC2 fusion sarcomas. There was male preponderance and all the patients had a history of trivial trauma. It affected the distal femur and proximal tibia with destructive osteolytic lesions. There wa

BACKGROUND: Primary pure breast sarcoma is a rare disease and constitutes 0.2-1.0% of all mammary malignancies. The establishment of a diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma is difficult in adults. Immunohistochemical analysis usually proves to be helpful in indistinguishable cases. The simplistic step is to classify sarcomas on a simple descriptive basis as spindle cell sarcomas, myxoid sarcomas, pleomorphic sarcomas, and small round cell sarcomas. CASE REPORT: Here, we present a rare case of primary spindle cell sarcoma of the breast. A 43-year-old woman was admitted to our clinic with a 2-month h

Granulocytic sarcoma, or chloroma, is a tumor composed of immature cells of the myeloid series, which usually occurs as a secondary manifestation of acute myelocytic leukemia. Unique problems in interpretation of these lesions arise when the leukemic picture is absent in peripheral blood and bone marrow. In these cases, granulocytic sarcoma is usually misinterpreted as "reticulum cell sarcoma". Two cases of this neoplasm involving the small intestine and stomach, are reported. Signs of leukemia appeared terminally. The value of cytochemical stains in the differential diagnosis and the possible

Ewing's sarcoma are small round cell tumors belonging to Ewing's family of tumors and the second most common bone tumor seen in children. The most common affected sites are long bones of extremities followed by pelvis and ribs. Primary arising in head and neck region is uncommon and maxillary Ewing's sarcoma is rarely seen. Histologically it is one of many small round cell tumors found in children and therefore immunohistochemical and occasionally molecular studies are required to establish the diagnosis. Imaging features include aggressive bony destruction with periosteal reaction and associa

RATIONALE: Ewing-like sarcoma (ELS)/undifferentiated round cell sarcoma (URCS) is a rare type of soft tissue sarcomas (STS), especially in infants, with poor prognosis. It is a so-called "small round cell" sarcoma, and has many features of Ewing sarcoma, but lacks rearrangements in EWSR1. The diagnosis and treatment of this kind of STS remains challenging. BCOR genetic abnormalities have been found in some Ewing-like sarcomas.
PATIENT CONCERNS: This report presents an ELS case of a female infant, who was 2 months old when initially diagnosed, with the clinical stage of IIIA (G2T2N0M0). Histol

Superior vena cava (SVC) obstruction leads to a constellation of symptoms and signs that encompass the SVC syndrome. Today, malignancy accounts for 65% of all cases. The most common neoplastic causes are non–small cell lung cancer (50%), small cell lung cancer (25%), lymphoma, and metastasis. Primary cardiac tumors are an extremely rare cause of SVC obstruction. We describe the case of a 48-year-old man who presented with dyspnea, confusion, and facial swelling with cyanosis. The patient developed life-threatening airway obstruction after administration of anxiolytic. The diagnosis of SVC obst

Ewing sarcoma is a highly aggressive solid malignancy affecting children and young adults. Ewing sarcoma is driven primarily by EWSR1::FLI1, a fusion oncoprotein that has been notoriously difficult to target with traditional pharmacologic agents. There are numerous examples of promising preclinical combinations of small molecules that are never tested in pediatric clinical trials because agents fail to reach the market due to limited efficacy for common adult cancers. Moreover, the effectiveness of single-agent therapies for cancer treatment is often limited. To address these limitations, we s

UNLABELLED: Many of the >130 World Health Organization-defined sarcoma subtypes are chemoresistant. To identify drug candidates with potential for repurposing in sarcomas with unmet needs, we screened structurally diverse small molecules across 20 sarcoma cell lines of various histologies. The screen included 1,387 compounds from the Custom Clinical Collection, NCI-Approved Oncology Set IV, and Selleck Bioactive Collection. The most effective agents were microtubule inhibitors, aurora kinase inhibitors, and heat shock protein inhibitors. Differential drug sensitivity was observed by sarcoma su

BCOR-altered sarcomas (BAS) are a subset of undifferentiated small round cell sarcomas characterized by alterations involving the BCOR gene. These tumors often pose diagnostic challenges due to their morphological overlap with other pediatric neoplasms. We report a case of BAS in an infant presenting with bilateral lower limb weakness. Imaging revealed a large multilobulated retroperitoneal mass. Histopathology showed prominent rhabdoid cells, alongside small round cells and spindle cells in a fascicular pattern. The tumor was positive for BCOR, Cyclin D1, TLE-1, BCL-6, and SATB2, while INI1 a

Adamantinoma-like Ewing sarcoma (AES) is a rare variant of Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (EFTs), primarily affecting bone and soft tissue. AES has mixed features of Ewing sarcoma (ES)/primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) and adamantinoma with a complex immunoprofile and EWSR1 gene rearrangements. Herein, we report a 72-year-old male who presented with left parotid mass, right neck mass and thyroid nodules. Fine needle aspiration of the left parotid mass displayed nests of monotonous epithelioid cells with basaloid features in a background of small round blue cells and lymphocytes. AES can i

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is a small round cell sarcoma arising in the bone or soft tissue. Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumours (PNET) of the thoracopulmonary region is called Askin's tumour. The common clinical presentations described for this extrapulmonary tumour are fever, chest wall mass with or without pain, dyspnea, and cough. Very few cases of Askin's tumour have been reported with haemoptysis as the initial presentation, which is usually a presentation of intrapulmonary lesions. A 22-year-old male presented to the emergency department with complaints of haemoptysis, mild ches

Dendritic cells (DC) are an essential component of the nonlymphoid, nonphagocytic immunoaccessory reticulum cells of the peripheral lymphoid tissue. Follicular dendritic cells (FDC) are one type of DC in the lymphoid follicle associated with B lymphocytes. They play an important role in the uptake and presentation of antigen generation and regulation of immune complexes. FDC can be recognized histologically by their oval to triangular nucleus, delicate basophilic nuclear membrane, almost empty nucleoplasm, small but distinct central nucleolus, and indistinct cellular outline; some cells can be

Myeloid sarcoma (granulocytic sarcoma or chloroma) is a tumor formed by myeloid precursor cells in any localization other than the bone marrow. It can occur without underlying acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or other myeloid neoplasms. Herein, we present a forty-two-year-old female patient who underwent surgery because of a left adnexal mass. Microscopic examination of the specimen revealed cord-like arrangement of the tumor cells with a diffuse growth of small blue cells effacing the ovarian stroma. Adult granulosa cell tumor was in the differential given the scanty cytoplasm of the tumor and in

Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor family of tumors is part of a rare group of malignant neoplasms with small round-cell morphology. We describe a 24-year-old woman who presented with non-specific back pain. A chest radiograph and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated an extraosseous, dumbbell-shaped mass of the posterior mediastinum with extension into the spinal canal. The patient underwent a left posterolateral thoracotomy and a T3-5 laminectomy with subsequent multi-agent chemotherapy. Histopathologic examination of the tumor demonstrated sheets of primitive small round mali

EZH2 is an important enzymatic subunit of the epigenetic regulator polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), which controls gene silencing through post-translational modification, and is overexpressed in various carcinomas and hematopoietic neoplasms. We found that the majority of cases of histiocytic and dendritic cell neoplasms, including histiocytic sarcoma, follicular dendritic cell sarcoma, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, and interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma, show strong EZH2 expression by immunohistochemical staining, in contrast to benign histiocytic lesions and normal cellular counter

BACKGROUND: CIC-rearranged sarcomas (CRS) represent a new entity of undifferentiated small round cell sarcoma belonging to the Ewing-like sarcomas family. CRS are the most common type. Fusion partners for the CIC gene include DUX4, FOXO4, and the recently recognizedNUTM1. Rare cases of CIC::NUTM1 sarcoma in pediatric patients have recently been reported in brain, kidney, bone, and soft tissues. However, such cases have not been identified in the soft tissues of the limbs.
CASE PRESENTATION: We reported a case of CIC::NUTM1 sarcoma located in the right upper limb of an 18-year-old man. The tum

Pure erythroid leukemia (PEL) is a rare type of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with a very aggressive clinical course. Presentation as a myeloid/erythroid sarcoma is exceedingly rare. We describe an infantile PEL presenting as a multifocal myeloid sarcoma, clinically and pathologically mimicking Ewing sarcoma/PNET family of tumors. The patient died 8 weeks after the initial presentation due to widespread disease. Our case shows that PEL needs to be considered in the differential diagnosis of small round blue cell tumors in infancy. A meticulous workup including immunohistochemistry, flow cytomet

Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) with a spindle cell component of the head and neck is an uncommon entity. In this case, we present a radiology-pathology correlation of a rare laryngeal BSCC with sarcomatous transformation and osteosarcomatous differentiation involving the laryngeal cartilage, which thus mimicked clinically and radiographically osteosarcoma or chondrosarcoma with calcification. Microscopic examination revealed predominantly BSCC with extensive osseous metaplasia among sheets and nests of basaloid tumor cells. There were also small foci of osteosarcoma, undifferentiated
