Primary laryngeal synovial sarcoma is a rare head and neck cancer. We describe a case of synovial sarcoma of the larynx in a previously well 9-year-old boy with a one-month history of a progressively enlarging neck lump. He was referred to our institution after incomplete surgical excision of the then undifferentiated neck mass. A partial laryngectomy including wide local excision of the residual mass was performed. An ipsilateral level I-III neck dissection was also performed concurrently. Clear re-excision margins were achieved. The neck nodes were all negative for metastatic disease. Adjuva

A 56-year-old male underwent treatment for sarcoma with metastases to the lungs. Follow-up imaging revealed multiple pulmonary nodules and masses with a favorable response on positron emission tomography (PET) scanning showing enlarging mediastinal lymph nodes concerning for progression of the disease. To evaluate the lymphadenopathy, the patient underwent bronchoscopy with endobronchial ultrasound and transbronchial needle aspiration. The lymph nodes were negative for cytology but showed granulomatous inflammation. Granulomatous inflammation is a rare occurrence in patients with concurrent me

Synovial sarcoma (SS) is a high-grade soft-tissue sarcoma occurring predominantly in older children and young adults. Only approximately 7% occur in the head and neck region, with SS representing less than 0.1% of all head and neck cancers. Orbital location is exceedingly rare with only 8 cases reported so far in the literature. It is noted for its propensity for late local recurrences and metastases. Histologically, SS is monophasic, biphasic, or poorly differentiated and harbors a specific chromosomal translocation t(X;18)(p11.2;q11.2) in >95% of cases. In this article, we describe a case of

INTRODUCTION: Synovial sarcomas commonly occur in the extremities of young adults. A primary occurrence in the mediastinum is very rare with only a few reported cases in the world literature. We report a case of mediastinal synovial sarcoma. This paper is about a 47-year-old male who presented with retrosternal chest pain and shortness of breath on exertion. Imaging showed an anterior mediastinal mass. Pathological examination of the resected mass showed a biphasic neoplasm with a spindle cell component admixed with gland-like elements. The tumor showed positive staining with cytokeratin, epit

BACKGROUND: Recurrence of synovial sarcoma (SS) has been associated with poor prognosis. Optimal treatment is unknown due to heterogeneous primary therapies with or without chemotherapy.
METHODS: Data of patients treated in consecutive prospective European Cooperative Weichteilsarkom Studiengruppe trials 1981-2010 with primary localized SS less than 21 years were analyzed. Chemotherapy had been recommended for all SS patients during primary therapy.
RESULTS: Of 220 patients, 52 experienced recurrence a median of 2.5 years (range, 0.3-11.6 years) after their initial diagnosis. Recurrence was

UNLABELLED: The authors report a case of intra-abdominal synovial-sarcoma of the gastrocolic ligament in a 64-years-old woman hospitalized for a palpable abdominal mass and pain. CT scan detected an intra-abdominal mass extended through the abdominal wall into the soft tissues, causing compression and dislocation of intra-abdominal structures (left liver, gallbladder, pylorus and gastric antrum, duodenal bulb). At its back, it was in contact with the pancreas, the vena cava and the right kidney. Biopsy revealed that the mass was an intra-abdominal synovial-sarcoma. Patient received preoperativ

Synovial sarcoma is a malignant soft-tissue tumor that most commonly occurs in the extremities of young adults. Only several cases of synovial sarcomas of the chest wall and pleura had been reported. We present a 24-year-old man who had right back pain, chest pain, dyspnea, and intermittent fever from a huge primary synovial sarcoma of the right posterior chest wall. Multimodality therapies, including surgical resection, and chemotherapy and radiation therapy were applied, but the tumor progressed rapidly and the patient died 6 months after diagnosis. Prompt diagnosis and aggressive surgical r

Synovial sarcoma is a soft-tissue lesion occurring predominantly in the extremities of young adults. Although the head and neck region is the second most common site of involvement, synovial sarcoma has rarely been reported in the paranasal sinus. The authors present a case of synovial sarcoma arising from the frontal sinus and review the literature of synovial sarcomas arising from the paranasal sinuses.

A 32-year-old woman presented with a progressively increasing recurrent swelling of the left eye. An orbital tumor was detected and histologically classified as a synovial sarcoma, confirmed by immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. Isolated cases of synovial sarcoma have been reported in the retroperitoneum, mediastinum, pharynx and orofacial region. However, the orbit is an extremely rare site. The authors report a case of recurrent primary orbital calcified synovial sarcoma in a young lady treated with surgery and radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Primary pulmonary artery synovial sarcoma (PPASS) is an extremely rare cardiac malignancy, often misdiagnosed preoperatively due to its nonspecific clinical and imaging features. This case report aims to enhance diagnostic recognition of this rare entity.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 35-year-old male presented with chest pain after activity for 1 month. Physical examination revealed stable vital signs and no significant cardiac murmurs. Laboratory tests showed negative immunofixation electrophoresis, unremarkable urinary light chains and coagulation function, and an N-terminal pro-B-type n

BACKGROUND: Synovial sarcoma (SS) is a rare, aggressive malignant neoplasm with a high rate of metastasis despite its indolent nature. A distinct SS18::SSX fusion oncogene characterizes SS. The monophasic subtype is the most common and consists of spindle cells. Due to its rarity and subtle clinical presentation, SS can be challenging to identify, leading to misdiagnosis or delays in treatment. The present case highlights the importance of awareness and vigilance among healthcare providers when encountering slow-growing, seemingly benign soft-tissue tumors.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 43-year-old Ha

Synovial sarcoma, an uncommon malignant tumor, can occur in various anatomical sites but mostly involves joints. It is invasive locally and tends to spread to other sites. We report a male patient, 56 years old, who had swelling above his right ankle. Soft tissue edema was observed across the lateral malleolus in imaging examinations. A synovial sarcoma was diagnosed on histopathology. A complete resection was performed and postoperative treatment with doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide was given for 2 months. The 5-year survival rate is only expected between 27-55%. Furthermore, many authors co

Synovial sarcoma is a soft tissue tumor originating from mesenchymal precursor stem cells. It is usually seen in young males and lower extremities. It is only seen in 10% of head and neck region and nasopharynx which is a very unexpected location. We report a rare case treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The objective of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of (111)In-DTPA-octreotide (OC) for in vivo scintigraphic imaging of these relatively uncommon tumors. Thirteen patients (9 males, 4 females, mean age 59 years) with known sarcomatous lesions were studied. All patients had known lesions as demonstrated by previous investigation with other modalities, e.g. CAT, MRI. Following intravenous injection of 10 microg of OC labeled with 2.8-4.2 mCi (111)In, planar imaging was done at 6 +/- 1 and 22 +/- 2 h, respectively. Histologic verification was obtained in all cases, either from fin

Synovial sarcoma is one of the rare soft tissue sarcomas occurring in the periarticular region originating from synovia. Synovial sarcomas occur less frequently in the neck, tongue, larynx, mediastinum, heart, lung, abdominal wall, small intestine, mesentery, and retroperitoneum. Primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma is a poor pathological condition without extrapulmonary involvement. In these rapidly progressing tumors, making quick decisions is important and performing complete resection is the best treatment that contributes to survival. Herein, we present a case of primary pulmonary synovial

Primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma (PPSS) is an extremely rare tumor, with approximately 50 cases being reported in the English literature (Golota et al., 2018). Difficulties are often encountered in the diagnosis of PPSS as it can be confused with other spindle or round cell tumors, such as fibrosarcoma, hemangiopericytoma, mesothelioma, sarcomatoid carcinoma, or metastatic sarcomas. PPSS was first described by Zeren et al. in 1995. We present a case of PPSS in a 41-year-old woman, who complained of progressive dyspnea and left-sided chest pain.
