Sebaceous adenocarcinoma of the parotid gland is a rare, malignant epithelial neoplasm with focal areas of sebaceous differentiation. A literature search revealed only 34 cases as of December 2020. Our case brings this total to 35. It is characterized as a partially encapsulated neoplasm with predominant areas of basaloid or squamous cells, and variable degrees of sebaceous differentiation. The association of sebaceous gland neoplasms with visceral carcinomas, first described by Muir and Torre, has become widely recognized. The purpose of our study was to determine the prevalence of malignancy, other associated diseases, and familial carcinoma in patients who had one or more cutaneous lesions within the spectrum of sebaceous adenoma, epithelioma, or carcinoma. In the animal model of the Syrian hamster the antiandrogenic action of spironolactone on the sebaceous glands of the ventral side of the pinna was examined. Spironolactone reduces both labeling index and cross-sectional surface area of sebaceous glands significantly in a dose-dependent manner. Equally there was a significant decrease in serum testosterone levels in spironolactone treated animals. Our results seem to justify clinical studies with spironolactone in patients with hirsutism, seborrhea, and possibly acne vulgaris.

AIMS: Sebaceous carcinomas are uncommon malignant cutaneous tumours originating from the pilosebaceous unit. Although its occurrence is mostly common in peri-ocular glands, other anatomical regions of the head and neck may be affected, including major and minor salivary glands.

INTRODUCTION: Most ectopic sebaceous glands have been reported in the tissues of ectodermal origin. However, there are relatively a few reports of ectopic sebaceous glands in the oesophagus, an organ of endodermal origin.

We report two cases of Apert's syndrome, each of whom developed the severe acne in adolescence which is a feature of this disorder. Both responded to isotretinoin therapy. Immunohistochemical techniques, using a mouse monoclonal antibody, were employed to stain sebocyte androgen receptors in the two patients, and in five controls. Sebaceous glands (SGs) are essential for maintaining skin homeostasis and barrier function. However, the cell biology and lineage of SGs remain poorly understood in vivo. We have developed a murine model to measure the effects on sebaceous glands of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Hairless mice were irradiated with Westinghouse FS-40 tubes filtered to attenuate the radiation below 290 nm. Emission was mainly in the UVB range (peak, 313nm). BACKGROUND: Sebaceous gland (SG) atrophy is well-documented in scalp lesions of psoriasis and has been considered as an important clue to psoriatic alopecia. However, its specificity for psoriasis has been questioned over the years. We hypothesize that SG atrophy is not specific for psoriasis and looked for its presence in biopsies of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study of biopsy specimens of clinically suspected and histopathologically proven seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp for changes in SGs between January 1, 2014 and August 6, 2021.

Non-sebaceous lymphadenoma of the salivary glands is a rare benign lesion, first described in 1991. We present the case of a 54-year-old woman, with a right parotid mass. She underwent right superficial parotidectomy, and histopathology reported a non-sebaceous lymphadenoma due to an encapsulated lesion and multiple non-atypical epithelial inclusions without sebaceous differentiation. The etiology of non-sebaceous lymphadenoma is not yet understood, but it can arise predominantly from the parotid gland. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice.
