Delineating the Concept of eHealth Self-Management for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: A Concept Analysis in the Context of the Social Cognitive Theory.

BACKGROUND: Chronic musculoskeletal pain is a major health issue worldwide, characterized by a significant disease burden that leads to disability and reduced quality of life. Its prevalence is increasing, particularly among the aging population. Research is needed to provide effective, individualized, and theory-based eHealth self-management interventions to improve clinical outcomes, and access to care. There is a lack of consensus in the literature on the concept of eHealth self-management support for chronic musculoskeletal pain. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to conduct a concept an

Role of adipokines FGF21, leptin and adiponectin in self-concept of youths with obesity.

The mechanisms by which obesity increases the risk of psychosocial disorders remain unclear. We aimed at exploring the association between obesity and self-concept in Chinese youths and the role of adipokines. Data for 559 participants (aged 14-28 years) were analyzed. Self-concept was assessed by utilizing the Self-Description Questionnaire II (SDQ-II). Subjects with obesity had higher leptin, FGF21 and lower adiponectin levels (all p < 0.001). They also had lower SDQ-II scores especially in the domains of general school, physical abilities, physical appearance and opposite-sex relations (all

The effect of academic self-concept on ADHD and antisocial behaviors in early adolescence.

Using structural equation modeling techniques, we evaluated the effect of academic self-concept (ASC) on the development of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and antisocial behaviors in early adolescence. Participants (n = 445) were recruited from the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Research study. Eligibility was determined by the presence of complete data for the following variables at the specified time periods: reading at age 7, teacher reports of ADHD and antisocial behaviors at age 7, self-ratings of ASC at ages 9 and 11, and teacher reports of ADHD and ant

Implicit and explicit self-concepts of forgiveness in women with borderline personality disorder.

BACKGROUND: The tendency to forgive is associated with traits such as agreeableness and neuroticism, mental well-being, and interpersonal functioning. Given documented associations with interpersonal conflict and aggression in borderline personality disorder (BPD), forgiveness (or, lack thereof) may be particularly relevant for BPD symptomatology but remains understudied. This study examines forgiveness in BPD compared to a heterogeneous clinical control group without personality disorder (CC), exploring its associations with aggression and interpersonal dysfunction using both direct (self-rep

The effects of vestibular dysfunction on balance and self-concept in children with cochlear implants.

OBJECTIVES: Children with cochlear implants (CCI) have an increased rate of vestibular dysfunction. Vestibular dysfunction is associated with decreased balance and dynamic visual acuity ability. Hearing loss alone is associated with reduced speech perception and vocabulary in children. In adults, vestibular dysfunction is associated with reduced quality of life; however, similar relationships have not been studied in children with vestibular dysfunction. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of hearing loss and vestibular dysfunction on self-concept in CCI (n

Academic self-concept in children with epilepsy and its relation to their quality of life.

OBJECTIVES: Academic achievement in children with epilepsy is a highly studied topic with many important implications. However, only little attention has been devoted to academic self-concept of such children and the relation of academic self-concept to their quality of life. We aimed to examine academic self-concept in children with epilepsy, to assess its relationship to academic achievement and to determine possible correlations between academic self-concept and quality of life. METHODS: The study group consisted of 182 children and adolescents aged 9-14 years who completed the student's p

Self-concept of children with cerebral palsy compared with that of children without impairment.

This study examined whether the self-concept of children with cerebral palsy (CP) differed from that of children without impairment. Forty-seven children (24 males, 23 females; mean age 11y 8mo [SD 2y 6mo]) with spastic diplegia or hemiplegia were matched with children without impairment. The level of disability of the children with CP was classified as Gross Motor Function Classification System Level I (n=24), Level II (n=16), or Level III (n=7). The 36-item Self-Perception Profile for Children was used to assess six domains of self-concept. No difference was found between the groups for Glob

The remarkable history of the 1951 pp 66 year old woman with gastric adenocarcinoma is reviewed. After subtotal gastrectomy she survived for 22 years without any metastases. Presumably the artificially induced high titer IgG, anti-P1 proved to be cytotoxic in two stages: (1) binding of anti-P1 to the terminal fifth sugar, galactose, and (2) the action of cellular immunity in the form of killer T derived lymphocytes containing receptors for IgG molecules. An identical mechanism may be operative in inducing abortions in the pp pregnant woman with a P1 fetus. P1 illegitimate glycolipid (GL) red c

Social touch is associated with disrupted bodily self-concept in people with depersonalization symptoms.

Social touch plays a fundamental role in bodily self-awareness and emotional regulation. Alterations in how touch is perceived or sought may contribute to disturbances in self-perception, such as those seen in depersonalization. This study examined the relationship between depersonalization symptoms, social touch acceptance and seeking, and self-concept clarity in a non-clinical Argentinian sample (N = 273). Participants completed an online body-mapping task to indicate acceptable touch areas from strangers, friends/family, and intimate partners, along with questionnaires assessing comfort wit

Autism in schizophrenia and its original link to self-disorder: returning a borrowed concept.

Autism was introduced by Eugen Bleuler in 1910 as a defining feature of schizophrenia, and it remained so for 80 years. However, the concept was borrowed by Leo Kanner and Hans Asperger to describe another condition (infantile autism) and eventually awareness of autistic features in schizophrenia declined. Today, autistic features are by default considered indicative of autism spectrum disorder, and patients with schizophrenia, who exhibit autistic features, risk being misdiagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and receiving inadequate treatment. To aid differential diagnosis and treatment, it

Developing body estimation in adolescence is associated with neural regions that support self-concept.

Both self-concept, the evaluation of who you are, and the physical body undergo changes throughout adolescence. These two processes might affect the development of body image, a complex construct that comprises one's thoughts, feelings, and perception of one's body. This study aims to better understand the development of body image in relation to self-concept development and its neural correlates. Adolescents (aged 11-24) from the longitudinal Leiden Self-Concept study were followed for three consecutive years (NT1 = 160, NT2 = 151, and NT3 = 144). Their body image was measured using a figure

Self-Concept in Primary School Student with Dyslexia: The Relationship to Parental Rearing Styles.

Dyslexic children may be more likely to form a negative self-concept, especially with poor educational experiences and negative parenting. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the self-concept of Chinese dyslexic children in primary school, and explore the influence factors of self-concept as well as its relationship with parenting style. A total of 50 children with dyslexia and 50 non-dyslexics matched for age, grade and gender participated in the study. We used the Piers-Harris children's self-concept scale (PHCSS) and the Chinese version of Egna Minnen Beträffande Uppfostran

Direct and reflected self-concept show increasing similarity across adolescence: A functional neuroimaging study.

In adolescence, the perceived opinions of others are important in the construction of one's self-concept. Previous studies found involvement of medial Prefrontal Cortex (mPFC) and temporal-parietal junction (TPJ) in direct (own perspective) and reflected (perceived perspective of others) self-evaluations, but no studies to date examined differences in these processes across adolescence. In this study, 150 adolescents between 11 and 21 years old evaluated their traits from their own perspective and from the perceived perspective of peers in a fMRI session. Results showed overlapping behavioural
