Exercise training rescues impaired H2O2-mediated vasodilation in porcine collateral-dependent coronary arterioles through enhanced K+ channel activation.

We previously reported that exercise training drives enhanced agonist-stimulated hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) levels and restores endothelium-dependent dilation via an increased reliance on H2O2 in arterioles isolated from ischemic porcine hearts. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that exercise training would correct impaired H2O2-mediated dilation in coronary arterioles isolated from ischemic myocardium through increases in protein kinase G (PKG) and protein kinase A (PKA) activation and subsequent colocalization with sarcolemmal K+ channels. Female adult Yucatan miniature swine were surgic

Automatic Detection of Horner Syndrome by Using Facial Images.

Horner syndrome is a clinical constellation that presents with miosis, ptosis, and facial anhidrosis. It is important as a warning sign of the damaged oculosympathetic chain, potentially with serious causes. However, the diagnosis of Horner syndrome is operator dependent and subjective. This study aims to present an objective method that can recognize Horner sign from facial photos and verify its accuracy. A total of 173 images were collected, annotated, and divided into training and testing groups. Two types of classifiers were trained (two-stage classifier and one-stage classifier). The two-

Food readjustment plus exercise training improves cardiovascular autonomic control and baroreflex sensitivity in high-fat diet-fed ovariectomized mice.

Despite consensus on the benefits of food readjustment and/or moderate-intensity continuous exercise in the treatment of cardiometabolic risk factors, there is little evidence of the association between these two cardiovascular risk management strategies after menopause. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of food readjustment and/or exercise training on metabolic, hemodynamic, autonomic, and inflammatory parameters in a model of loss of ovarian function with diet-induced obesity. Forty C57BL/6J ovariectomized mice were divided into the following groups: high-fat diet

A Case for the Non-Neurologist Telestroke Provider.

Introduction: Telestroke networks have effectively increased the number of ischemic stroke patients who have access to acute stroke therapy. However, the availability of a dedicated group of stroke subspecialists is not always feasible. We hypothesize that rates of tPA recommendation, sensitivity of final diagnosis, and post-tPA hemorrhagic complications do not differ significantly between neurologists and an emergency-medicine physician during telestroke consultations. Methods: Retrospective review of all telestroke consults performed at a comprehensive stroke center over 1 year. Statistical

Discriminative stimulus properties of methylxanthines and their metabolites in rats.

Rats were trained to discriminate methylxanthines from saline under a two-lever concurrent variable ratio schedule of reinforcement. One group was trained to discriminate between saline and 32 mg/kg caffeine. A second group was trained to discriminate between 56 mg/kg theophylline and saline. Rats reliably discriminated between saline and the training methylxanthine, displaying graded generalization curves across training-drug doses. Caffeine-trained rats demonstrated caffeine-appropriate responding when tested with theophylline, paraxanthine, and 3-methylxanthine. Theobromine failed to genera

Maternal sensitivity training programs: preventing child maltreatment through community-based interventions.

Child maltreatment is a major public health concern in Iran, driven by complex socioeconomic and cultural factors. This quasi-experimental study examined whether a culturally adapted maternal sensitivity training program-inspired by the Video-Feedback Intervention to Promote Positive Parenting and Sensitive Discipline (VIPP-SD)-could improve sensitivity and reduce maltreatment risk among 60 Iranian mothers of children aged 0-5 years. Participants from urban and rural health centers were assigned to four groups: urban/rural experimental (n=15 each) and urban/rural control (n=15 each). The inter

Mitigation of Subsequent Ovariectomy Responses through Prior Exercise Training in Rats.

It is well known that cardiometabolic dysfunction gradually increases after menopause, and the sedentary lifestyle can aggravate this condition. Therefore, we compared the effects of aerobic exercise training during the premenopausal period and after ovariectomy (OVX) on metabolic, hemodynamic, and autonomic parameters in an experimental rat model of menopause. The female rats were divided into four groups: control (C), sedentary OVX (SO), trained OVX (TO), and previously trained OVX (PTO). The PTO group was trained for 4 weeks prior to+8 weeks after OVX, and the TO group trained only after OV

A prediction model using 2-propanol and 2-butanone in urine distinguishes breast cancer.

Safe and noninvasive methods for breast cancer screening with improved accuracy are urgently needed. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in biological samples such as breath and blood have been investigated as noninvasive novel markers of cancer. We investigated volatile organic compounds in urine to assess their potential for the detection of breast cancer. One hundred and ten women with biopsy-proven breast cancer and 177 healthy volunteers were enrolled. The subjects were divided into two groups: a training set and an external validation set. Urine samples were collected and analyzed by gas c

High-intensity interval training may reduce in-stent restenosis following percutaneous coronary intervention with stent implantation A randomized controlled trial evaluating the relationship to endothelial function and inflammation.

BACKGROUND: High-intensity interval training has been shown to be superior to moderate continuous exercise training in improving exercise capacity and endothelial function in patients with coronary artery disease. The objective of this study was to evaluate this training model on in-stent restenosis following percutaneous coronary intervention for stable or unstable angina. METHODS AND RESULTS: We prospectively randomized 40 patients after percutaneous coronary intervention with implantation of a bare metal stent (n = 30) or drug eluting stent (n = 32) to a 6-month supervised high-intensity i

Physical training preserves bone mineral density in postmenopausal women with forearm fractures and low bone mineral density.

UNLABELLED: One hundred and twelve postmenopausal women with low bone mineral density (BMD) and forearm fractures were randomized to physical training or control group. After one year the total hip BMD was significantly higher in the women in the physical training group. The results indicate a positive effect of physical training on BMD in postmenopausal women with low BMD. INTRODUCTION: The fivefold increase in hip fracture incidence since 1950 in Sweden may partially be due to an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. Our hypothesis was that physical training can prevent bone loss in postmenopau

Efficacy of biofeedback rehabilitation based on visual evoked potentials analysis in patients with advanced age-related macular degeneration.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive and degenerative disorder of the macula. In advanced stages, it is characterized by the formation of areas of geographic atrophy or fibrous scars in the central macula, which determines irreversible loss of central vision. These patients can benefit from visual rehabilitation programmes with acoustic "biofeedback" mechanisms that can instruct the patient to move fixation from the central degenerated macular area to an adjacent healthy area, with a reorganization of the primary visual cortex. In this prospective, comparative, non-randomize
