Biostimulated-sesame sprout extracts as potential agents against Leishmania mexicana.

Leishmania mexicana is one of the causal agents of cutaneous leishmaniasis. Current antileishmanial chemotherapeutics have demonstrated adverse side effects; thus, alternative treatments are needed. In this study, we performed in silico and in vitro analyses of the leishmanicidal potential of the most abundant phenolic compounds identified in black sesame sprouts biostimulated with Bacillus clausii. The molecular docking analysis showed strong interactions (binding free energies between -6.5 and -9.5 kcal/mol) of sesaminol 2-O-triglucoside, pinoresinol dihexoside, isoverbascoside, and apigenin

Polyester-releasing sesamin by electrospinning technique for the application of bone tissue engineering.

Sesamin, a significant lignin compound isolated from sesame (Sesamum indicum Linn), is well known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and tissue growth promotion properties. Bioabsorbable poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) is also a well-known polymer applied to various fields of medicine as biomaterials. The main objective of this research was to produce a prototype material from PCL and sesamin by electrospinning technique for bone tissue engineering applications. Dichloromethane and dimethylformamide (7:3) mixture was used as the solvent system for fabrication of PCL nanofiber with different lo

Effects of sesamin on fatty acid and cholesterol metabolism, macrophage cholesterol homeostasis and serum lipid profile: A comprehensive review.

Sesamin is the major lignan constituent derived from Sesamum indicum seeds and sesame oil. Various studies have reported that sesamin possesses potent lipid-lowering properties. The lipid-lowering effects of sesamin have been mainly attributed to its ability in affecting key events in fatty acid and cholesterol metabolism and in lowering atherogenesis-triggering LDL, VLDL and TG levels, as well as in increasing atheroprotective HDL levels. In this review, we provide a comprehensive summary of the reported anti-hyperlipidemic effects of sesamin, presented both in vitro and in vivo. The molecula

Dynamic diversification of lignan metabolism in sesame via coordinated oxygenation and glucosylation across germination.

Sesame (Sesamum indicum) seeds accumulate specialized lignans, including (+)-sesamin, (+)-sesamolin, and (+)-sesaminol triglucoside (SL-TG). Although lignan biosynthesis during seed development is well characterized-with SiCYP92B14 recognized as a (+)-sesamin-specific oxygenase-the molecular basis of the metabolic transition during germination, where lipophilic lignans are fully converted into glucosides, remained unclear. Herein, we identify a set of (+)-sesamin oxygenases, SiCYP706V12-V14, cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs) that exhibit a broader substrate range than SiCYP92B14. These enzymes ox

Carbon dots derived from pea for specifically binding with Cryptococcus neoformans.

Herein, we have prepared two kinds of carbon dots (CDs) on the basis of pea (p-CDs) and sesame (s-CDs) through a facile hydrothermal way. Basically, the two CDs described here exhibited obvious superiority mainly including satisfactory stability, non-toxicity and photobleaching resistance, and also the whole synthesis procedures for both p-CDs and s-CDs were environmental-friendly. Significantly, p-CDs showed specific binding with pathogenic fungus of Cryptococcus neoformans, and thereby revealing the potential of staining the fungus. Additionally, we employed Cryptococcus neoformans to infect

Medicinal plants with antithrombotic property in Persian medicine: a mechanistic review.

Thrombosis is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in a wide range of vessels diseases. Due to the high prevalence of thromboembolic disorders investigations are being carried out on new antithrombotic agents with limited adverse side effects in which herbal medicines are considered as alternative remedies. Persian medicine (PM) as a traditional medicine has a good potential for pharmacotherapy based on its own principles and development of drugs via investigating PM literature. In PM manuscripts there are some concepts that express the management of blood clots and antithromboti
