Comparative Evaluation of AI-Assisted and Manual CBCT-Derived Graft Volume Measurements for Maxillary Sinus Floor Augmentation.

Background/Objectives: Accurate estimation of augmentation volume is essential for successful maxillary sinus augmentation planning. Manual CBCT-derived volumetric calculations remain time-consuming and operator-dependent. Artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted volumetric estimation may provide a standardized and reproducible alternative. This study evaluated the agreement and reliability of an AI-assisted volumetric estimation tool compared with CBCT-derived manually calculated augmentation volumes for sinus augmentation planning. Methods: A retrospective comparative study was conducted on 60

Clinical Application of Cell-Based Approaches in Maxillary Sinus Floor Augmentation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Maxillary sinus floor augmentation is frequently performed to increase bone height for dental implants, with stem cells suggested to boost bone regeneration. Consequently, this study aimed to assess the effects of incorporating stem cells in maxillary sinus floor augmentation. Two reviewers conducted an extensive search using a mix of controlled vocabulary (MeSH) and free-text terms to locate published systematic reviews. Searches were conducted in three major electronic databases (Medline via PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane database) up to July 2025. Initially, 250 articles were found, but only

Sinus Floor Augmentation with Synthetic Hydroxyapatite (NanoBone®) in Combination with Platelet-Rich Fibrin: A Case Series.

Several techniques have been described for maxillary sinus graft augmentation, including the lateral window technique and crestal approach with osteotomes or osseodensification. Platelet-rich fibrin has been used in maxillary sinus lift procedures due to its ability to accelerate soft and hard tissue healing. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of PRF in combination with the synthetic hydroxyapatite NanoBone® to enhance bone regeneration in sinus floor elevation with the lateral window technique. Out of the 50 individuals screened in a preoperative assessment visit from the CES

Injectable thermosensitive chitosan/gelatin-based hydrogel carried erythropoietin to effectively enhance maxillary sinus floor augmentation in vivo.

OBJECTIVE: Maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) is commonly used to increase the alveolar bone height in the posterior maxilla before implant placement. In the present study, we evaluated if the injectable thermosensitive chitosan/β-sodium glycerophosphate disodium salt hydrate/gelatin (CS/GP/GA) hydrogel carried erythropoietin (EPO) could enhance the new bone formation for MSFA in vivo. METHODS: EPO-CS/GP/GA hydrogel was prepared by ionic crosslinking. Then, characteristics of EPO-CS/GP/GA were evaluated by morphology, injectable property and pH on the gelling time (GT). The release pro

The vertical course of bone regeneration in maxillary sinus floor augmentations: A histomorphometric analysis of human biopsies.

BACKGROUND: Maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) is a well-established and predictable augmentation method in severely resorbed maxillae. However, data on the vertical course of bone graft consolidation within the maxillary sinus are rare. The aim of the present study was to quantify the vertical distribution of new bone formation (nBF) in MSFA and to characterize the vertical gradient of bone graft consolidation. METHODS: Eighty-five human sinus biopsies were harvested 6 ± 1 months after MSFA. Histological thin-ground sections were prepared and histomorphometrically analyzed. The volume

Effect of barrier membranes on the outcomes of maxillary sinus floor augmentation: a meta-analysis of histomorphometric outcomes.

PURPOSE: Sinus floor elevation via the lateral window approach represents a reliable technique for augmenting bone volume in the atrophic posterior maxilla. However, controversy remains regarding the effect of placement of a barrier membrane over the lateral window. This histomorphometric meta-analysis sought to clarify the effect of barrier membranes in lateral window sinus augmentation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An electronic search of three databases and a hand search in implant-related journals for studies published through January 2013 in the English language was conducted. Randomized contr

Two-Step Procedure for the Treatment of a Maxillary Sinus with Complex Sinus Septa: A Highly Predictive Method for Sinus Floor Augmentation After Perforation of the Maxillary Sinus Membrane.

A strategic surgical approach is necessary for patients who cannot undergo maxillary sinus augmentation due to a large perforation of the sinus membrane as a result of complex sinus septa. The technique includes partial cutting and removal of the sinus septum and graftless mucosal elevation of the concavity area. Six months after the procedure, bone growth was observed in the area where the septum had been partially removed. The sinus mucosa was slightly thicker because of scarring; consequently, maxillary sinus augmentation was safely achieved. This two-step procedure is effective for safe ma
