Adaptation and validation study of the Indonesian version of the Global Psychotrauma Screen in an undergraduate student population.

BACKGROUND: The high incidence of potentially traumatic events (PTEs) in Indonesia warrants early identification of those with probable trauma-related disorders in order to tailor prevention and intervention for trauma-related symptoms. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to adapt and validate a novel brief transdiagnostic screener, the Global Psychotrauma Screen (GPS), in Indonesian undergraduate students. METHODS: An online survey was administered among Indonesian undergraduate students (N = 322). Exploratory factor analysis, reliability analyses, clinical validity analyses, and correlational anal

Establishing Reliability and Validity of the FACE-Q Craniofacial Module for Pediatric Head and Neck Cancer.

Purpose: We aimed to establish content validity and assess the psychometric properties of the FACE-Q Craniofacial Module, a patient-reported outcome measure, for use in pediatric and adolescent patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). Methods: To establish content validity (Part 1), between June 2017 and August 2019, cognitive interviews were conducted with survivors of pediatric HNC (n = 15), and input was obtained from clinical experts (n = 21). To examine item and scale performance (Part 2), Rasch Measurement Theory (RMT) analysis was performed using data from two international studies (n

[The Fear of Negative Evaluation scale (FNE): psychometric properties of the French version].

BACKGROUND: The Fear of Negative Evaluation scale (FNE: Watson and Friend, 1969) is the measure most commonly used to determine the degree to which people experience apprehension at the prospect of being negatively evaluated. Although the development of the FNE preceded the inclusion of social anxiety disorder (or social phobia) in the diagnostic classification system, it is widely used as a measure of cognitive symptoms because the feature tapped by this measure is at the core of recent cognitive models of social-anxiety. According to these models, socially anxious individuals divide their at

Understanding the impact of tuberous sclerosis complex: development and validation of the TSC-PROM.

BACKGROUND: Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare and complex genetic disorder, associated with tumor growth in various organ systems, epilepsy, and a range of neuropsychiatric manifestations including intellectual disability. With improving patient-centered care and targeted therapies, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are needed to measure the impact of TSC manifestations on daily functioning. The aim of this study was to develop a TSC-specific PROM for adults that captures the impact of TSC on physical functions, mental functions, activity and participation, and the social supp

The SPAIC-11 and SPAICP-11: Two brief child- and parent-rated measures of social anxiety.

The Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory for Children-11 (SPAIC-11) and Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory for Children's Parents-11 (SPAICP-11) were developed as brief versions of the Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory--Child and Parent Versions via item response theory (IRT) using child and parent reports of social anxiety. A sample of 496 children was analyzed using IRT analyses, revealing 11 items that exhibit measurement equivalence across parent and child reports. Descriptive and psychometric data are provided for the child, parent, and combined total scores. Discriminant validity was d

The multidimensional nature and multicultural validity of a new measure of social anxiety: the Social Anxiety Questionnaire for Adults.

Much has been written about the situations most often feared by persons with social phobia, and several self-report measures are frequently used to assess such feared situations. However, it is not clear whether the situations feared by persons with social phobia form unidimensional or multidimensional factors. If these situations are multidimensional, reliance on a total score of feared situations would not reflect important differences between those dimensions. This research examined the multidimensional nature and multicultural validity of a newly developed instrument (the Social Anxiety Qu

Exact Analysis of Squared Cross-Validity Coefficient in Predictive Regression Models.

In regression analysis, the notion of population validity is of theoretical interest for describing the usefulness of the underlying regression model, whereas the presumably more important concept of population cross-validity represents the predictive effectiveness for the regression equation in future research. It appears that the inference procedures of the squared multiple correlation coefficient have been extensively developed. In contrast, a full range of statistical methods for the analysis of the squared cross-validity coefficient is considerably far from complete. This article consider

Validation of the Older Adult Social Evaluative Scale (OASES) as a measure of social anxiety.

UNLABELLED: ABSTRACTBackground:Social anxiety disorder (SAD) (formerly called social phobia) is among the most common mental health diagnoses among older adults; however, the research on late-life social anxiety is scarce. A limited number of studies have examined the assessment and diagnosis of social anxiety disorder in this population, and there are few social anxiety measures that are validated for use with older adults. One such measure, the Older Adult Social Evaluative Scale (OASES), was designed for use with this population, but until now has lacked validation against a gold-standard d

Attitudes towards people with mental disorders: results of a psychometric evaluation and confirmatory factor analysis of the stigma towards people with mental disorders (SToP-MD) scale.

Stigmatizing attitudes toward individuals with mental disorders represent a major barrier to treatment, recovery, and social inclusion. The present research introduces and psychometrically evaluates the German-language Stigma Toward People with Mental Disorders scale (SToP-MD) across three independent studies with distinct samples. In study 1 (N = 266), an initial item pool was developed and refined based on theoretical frameworks and exploratory factor analysis. In study 2 (N = 448), confirmatory factor analysis supported a two-factor structure comprising prejudiced stigmatization (SToP-MD-PS)

The convergent validity of the Matson Evaluation of Social Skills for individuals with Severe Retardation (MESSIER).

The convergent validity of the Matson Evaluation of Social Skills for Persons with Severe Retardation (MESSIER) was examined. We administered the MESSIER and the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales (VABS) to 892 individuals with severe and profound mental retardation residing in a residential state facility. The MESSIER subscales were compared to equivalent subdomains from the VABS that have been demonstrated through research to be both reliable and valid. Significant positive correlations were found between corresponding MESSIER subscales and VABS subdomains on social behaviors. The findings al

Development, confirmation, and validation of a measure of coping with colorectal cancer: a longitudinal investigation.

OBJECTIVE: This longitudinal study developed and confirmed the factor structure of the 32-item Coping with Colorectal Cancer (CCRC) measure. Reliability and validity of the measure were also assessed. METHODS: Participants were 1800 individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). A written questionnaire and a telephone interview were completed at 5 (Time 1) and 12 months post-diagnosis (Time 2). RESULTS: Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses revealed eight mostly empirically distinct subscales: Positive Perceptual Change, Religion/Spirituality, Rumination, Acceptance, Humour, Pall

Teaching Engagement and Caregiving Help in the Intensive Care Unit (TEACH-ICU) Scale: Content Validity.

BACKGROUND: Having family members provide care to their loved ones in the intensive care unit (ICU) is a beneficial yet seldom implemented approach. For family members to perform caregiving, nurses must be willing to teach, and such willingness is a developing area of research. OBJECTIVES: To adapt an instrument validated in family members, the Family Willingness for Caregiving Scale, to address nurses' willingness to teach family members caregiving skills. METHODS: Purposive and snowball sampling were used to recruit 10 expert ICU nurses through the American Association of Critical-Care Nur

Psychometric properties of the medical outcomes study: social support survey among methadone maintenance patients in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam: a validation study.

BACKGROUND: Social support plays a crucial role in the treatment and recovery process of patients engaging in methadone maintenance treatment (MMT). However, there is a paucity of research about social support among MMT patients, possibly due to a lack of appropriate measuring tools. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Vietnamese version of the Medical Outcomes Study: Social Support Survey (MOS-SSS) among MMT patients. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of 300 patients was conducted in a methadone clinic in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. MMT patients who agreed to parti

Participation in social activities among adolescents with an autism spectrum disorder.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about patterns of participation in social activities among adolescents with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The objectives were to report nationally representative (U.S.) estimates of participation in social activities among adolescents with an ASD, to compare these estimates to other groups of adolescents with disabilities, and examine correlates of limited social participation. METHODS AND FINDINGS: We analyzed data from wave 1 of the National Longitudinal Transition Study 2, a large cohort study of adolescents enrolled in special education. Three comparison g

Identifying analogue samples of individuals with clinically significant social anxiety: Updating and combining cutoff scores on the Social Phobia Inventory and Sheehan Disability Scale.

The use of analogue samples, as opposed to clinical groups, is common in mental health research, including research on social anxiety disorder (SAD). Recent observational and statistical evidence has raised doubts about the validity of current methods for establishing analogue samples of individuals with clinically significant social anxiety. Here, we used data from large community samples of clinical and nonclinical participants to determine new cutoff scores on self-report measures of social anxiety symptoms and symptom-related impairment. We then examined whether using these newly determine

Toddler anxiety disorders: a pilot study.

OBJECTIVE: This research examined the validity of criteria for diagnosing social phobia (SOC) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), where the DSM-IV criteria were modified to better identify toddlers who could have these disorders. METHOD: Diagnoses were made with a semistructured clinical interview that included child observations. Parents and caregivers completed child behavior, temperament, and socioemotional functioning questionnaires to test convergent and discriminant validity. RESULTS: Of 72 children, 18 months to 5 years old, 19 met modified SOC criteria (8 met DSM-IV criteria SOC
