Unsaturated Vinyl Branching: A Molecular-Tailoring Strategy for Synergistic Stacking Regulation and Energy-Loss Suppression Toward 20%-Efficiency Organic Solar Cells.

The performance of organic solar cells (OSCs) is critically constrained by energy losses arising from disordered molecular packing and suboptimal blend morphology in non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) systems. Achieving precise control over NFA aggregation during film formation is thus essential to realize optimal molecular orientation and phase separation. Herein, we propose an unsaturated vinyl branching (UVB) strategy that enables synergistic morphology control through the concurrent minimization of steric hindrance and enhancement of non-covalent interactions. By incorporating UVB units into the

Point-of-use water treatment: energy-autonomous synergistic solar photothermal-piezocatalysis on MXene/Bi2WO6 membranes for distributed removal of sulfonamide antibiotics.

This work presents an energy-autonomous system for antibiotic removal in distributed water treatment using a MXene/Bi2WO6 membrane that synergistically harnesses solar and hydrodynamic energy. During in-pipe flow under solar irradiation, the membrane achieved efficient removal of sulfamethoxazole (97.9 %). The efficiency surpasses the additive contributions of standalone photocatalysis (PC) and piezoelectric catalysis (PZC) (79.4 %), confirming significant PC-PZC synergy. Mechanistic studies reveal: (1) The piezoelectric field mitigates thermally induced charge recombination, while pyroelectri

Energy, Health, and Climate Costs of Carbon-Capture and Direct-Air-Capture versus 100%-Wind-Water-Solar Climate Policies in 149 Countries.

Air pollution, global warming, and energy insecurity are three major problems facing the world. This study first examines whether 149 countries can transition 100% of their business-as-usual (BAU) all-sector energy to electricity and heat obtained from 100% wind-water-solar (WWS) sources to solve these problems. WWS eliminates energy-related air pollution deaths and CO2-equivalent emissions while reducing end-use energy needs by ∼54.4%, annual energy costs by ∼59.6%, and annual social (energy plus health plus climate) costs by ∼91.8% among nations, giving energy- and social-cost payback times

High thermal conductive and photothermal phase change material microcapsules via cellulose nanocrystal stabilized Pickering emulsion for solar harvesting and thermal energy storage.

Phase change materials (PCMs) are promising for thermal energy storage due to their high latent enthalpy and constant phase change temperature. However, organic PCMs suffer from leaking, low thermal conductivity, and flammability. Herein, high thermal conductivity, photothermal and flame-proof docosane microcapsules with melamine-formaldehyde (MF) and polypyrrole (PPy) (C22-CMFP) were reported with cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) stabilized Pickering emulsion droplets as templates through in-situ polymerization. CNCs showed outstanding C22 Pickering emulsifying ability with the presence of NaCl an

Tailoring the Energy Band Structure and Interfacial Morphology of the ETL via Controllable Nanocluster Size Achieves High-Performance Planar Perovskite Solar Cells.

Planar-type perovskite solar cells (p-PSCs) based on SnO2 have garnered further attention due to their simple and low-temperature fabrication. Improving the critical properties of the electron transport layer (ETL) is an effective way to enhance the performance of p-PSC devices. Here, a brand-new method is developed to relieve the contact recombination caused by the rough fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) surface and further boosts the electrical concentration of the ETL. A SnO2-ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) acylamide compound (SEAC) with hydrogen bond-induced adjustable cluster size i

An excellent heterojunction nanocomposite solar-energy material for photocatalytic transformation of hydrogen sulfide pollutant to hydrogen fuel and elemental sulfur: A mechanistic insight.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a noxious gas for living organisms and devastating/corrosive agent for metallic structures, which is generated in large scale through natural [geothermal/bacterial] activities or industrial processes, particularly by petroleum and gas industries. Photocatalytic elimination of this plentiful-perilous pollutant and its transformation into hydrogen green fuel and elemental sulfur is a novel/sustainable strategy, which is intriguing from energy and environmental science as well as technological viewpoints. To this end, the design and synthesis of low-price, environmentall

Solar energy-based electromembrane extraction using agarose gel for the determination of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs from biological samples: An environmentally friendly strategy.

This paper presents the application of solar energy as a renewable resource in gel electromembrane extraction (G-EME). The extraction driving force (electrical field) generated from solar energy is stored through photovoltaic panels and significantly contributes to reducing the emission of greenhouse gasses. Moreover, the replacement of the polypropylene membrane and organic extracting solvents with biodegradable agarose membrane and the aqueous extracting solutions makes the presented approach compatible with the principles of green chemistry. Optimizing Molecular Packing and Interfacial Contact via Halogenated N-Glycidyl Carbazole Small Molecules for Low Energy Loss and Highly Efficient Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells.

Nonideal interfacial contact and non-radiative voltage loss in self-assembled monolayers (SAMs)-based inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) limit their further development. Herein, two carbazole-based molecules with different halogen atoms (X-OCZ, X = Cl or Br) are developed as efficient interfacial regulators. The halogen effect not only finely modulates the molecular packing, crystallinity, and surface contact potential of the MeO-2PACz analogue via self-induced intermolecular interactions but also significantly influences the subsequent crystal growth of perovskite, thus resulting in the f

Inner Side Chain Modification of Small Molecule Acceptors Enables Lower Energy Loss and High Efficiency of Organic Solar Cells Processed with Non-halogenated Solvents.

Organic solar cells (OSCs) processed with non-halogenated solvents usually suffer from excessive self-aggregation of small molecule acceptors (SMAs), severe phase separation and higher energy loss (Eloss), leading to reduced open-circuit voltage (Voc) and power conversion efficiency (PCE). Regulating the intermolecular interaction to disperse the aggregation and further improve the molecular packing order of SMAs would be an effective strategy to solve this problem. Here, we designed and synthesized two SMAs L8-PhF and L8-PhMe by introducing different substituents (fluorine for L8-PhF and meth

Performance evaluation of a triple-sided solar dryer in terms of energy-exergy analysis, sustainable indicators and CFD simulation during drying tilapia fish strips.

Fixed flat-plate solar collectors suffer from low energy efficiency during mornings and evenings due to suboptimal solar incidence angles, reducing thermal output. While tracking systems improve efficiency by following the sun's path, their high initial costs, mechanical complexity, and need for advanced control systems limit widespread adoption. These drawbacks demonstrate the importance of cost-effective, efficient alternatives that balance performance and simplicity in solar thermal applications. Thus, a triple-sided solar dryer (TSSD) integrated with intelligent airflow gating was develope

Green conversion of delignified sorghum straw and polyethylene glycol into form-stable phase change materials with promising solar energy capture, transition, and storage capabilities.

Phase change materials (PCMs) have attracted considerable attention as a thermal energy management technology for thermal storage. However, achieving high energy-storing abilities, low leakage rates, and solar absorption abilities simultaneously in PCMs remains greatly challenging. This research proposed a green strategy for preparing sorghum straw-based PCMs. By facile delignification and solvothermal process, delignified sorghum straw (DSS) and carbon quantum dots (CQDs) derived from removal lignin are prepared. The obtained PEG@CQDs/DSS possessed considerable reusable stabilities, excellent

Boosting cuckoo optimization algorithm via Gaussian mixture model for optimal power flow problem in a hybrid power system with solar and wind renewable energies.

This paper presents a novel approach, the Gaussian Mixture Method-enhanced Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm (GMMCOA), designed to optimize power flow decision parameters, with a specific focus on minimizing fuel cost, emissions, network loss, and voltage deviation. GMMCOA integrates the strengths of COA and GMM while mitigating their individual limitations. While COA offers robust search capabilities, it suffers from initial parameter dependency and the risk of getting trapped in local optima. Conversely, GMM delivers high-speed performance but requires guidance to identify the best solution. By

Deciphering the Role of Rhodanine Flanked Non-Fullerene Acceptor Molecules for Efficient Organic Photovoltaics.

In recent years, extensive research has been conducted with the aim of developing non-fullerene acceptors as they have a promising ability to drive the development of cost-effective and highly efficient organic solar cells (OSCs). By harnessing the potential of rhodanine-flanked non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs), we proposed eight new A-D-A type NFAs (SBA1-SBA8) through precise end-cap modifications on both sides of the bridging-core unit. We performed various advanced quantum chemical analyses to unveil these designed materials' potential and compared them with the synthetic reference molecule (
