Dynamical analysis of a spatially heterogeneous disease model with degenerate structure.

This study analyzes a reaction-diffusion model for cocoa black pod disease (CBPD) with space-dependent parameters and partial degeneracy, which assumes that susceptible and infected cocoa pods remain immobile within the region. Spores produced by infected pods, which drive both direct and indirect infections, are assumed to disperse at distinct rates depending on their mode of transmission. Firstly, we establish the model's well-posedness, including the boundedness and global existence of solutions. Furthermore, to address the non-compactness of solution semiflow, we demonstrate the asymptotic

Molecular and spatial analysis of tertiary lymphoid structures in Sjogren's syndrome.

Tertiary lymphoid structures play important roles in autoimmune and non-autoimmune conditions. While many of the molecular mechanisms involved in tertiary lymphoid structure formation have been identified, the cellular sources and temporal and spatial relationship remain unknown. Here we use combine single-cell RNA-sequencing, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics of minor salivary glands of patients with Sjogren's disease and Sicca Syndrome, with ex-vivo functional studies to construct a cellular and spatial map of key components involved in the formation and function of tertiary lymphoid st

Internal and external spatial analysis of trace elements in local crayfish.

Pollution in urban environments is a major health concern for humans as well as the local wildlife and aquatic species. Anthropogenic waste and discharge from storm drainage accumulate nutrients and environmental contaminants in local water systems. Locating contaminated sites using water samples over the vast landscape is a daunting task. Crayfish thrive in urban environments and have been used for biomonitoring pollutants. This study aimed to use crayfish as sentinels to monitor for elements in local environments. In this study, crayfish were used to measure metals and metalloids in lotic en

Sign language recognition by means of common spatial patterns: An analysis.

Currently there are around 466 million hard of hearing people and this amount is expected to grow in the coming years. Despite the efforts that have been made, there is a communication barrier between deaf and hard of hearing signers and non-signers in environments without an interpreter. Different approaches have been developed lately to try to deal with this issue. In this work, we present an Argentinian Sign Language (LSA) recognition system which uses hand landmarks extracted from videos of the LSA64 dataset in order to distinguish between different signs. Different features are extracted

Spatial and temporal patterns of dengue incidence in Bhutan: a Bayesian analysis.

Dengue is an important emerging vector-borne disease in Bhutan. This study aimed to quantify the spatial and temporal patterns of dengue and their relationship to environmental factors in dengue-affected areas at the sub-district level. A multivariate zero-inflated Poisson regression model was developed using a Bayesian framework with spatial and spatiotemporal random effects modelled using a conditional autoregressive prior structure. The posterior parameters were estimated using Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulation with Gibbs sampling. A total of 708 dengue cases were notified throug

Spatial risk analysis for the introduction and circulation of six arboviruses in the Netherlands.

BACKGROUND: Arboviruses are a growing public health concern in Europe, with both endemic and exotic arboviruses expected to spread further into novel areas in the next decades. Predicting where future outbreaks will occur is a major challenge, particularly for regions where these arboviruses are not endemic. Spatial modelling of ecological risk factors for arbovirus circulation can help identify areas of potential emergence. Moreover, combining hazard maps of different arboviruses may facilitate a cost-efficient, targeted multiplex-surveillance strategy in areas where virus transmission is mos

Determination of the spatial susceptibility to Yellow Fever using a multicriteria analysis.

BACKGROUND: The outbreak of sylvatic Yellow Fever (SYF) in humans during 2016-2017 in Brazil is one of the greatest in the history of the disease. The occurrence of the disease in areas with low vaccination coverage favoured the dissemination of the disease; therefore, it is necessary to identify the areas vulnerability to the YF virus (YFV) to assist in the adoption of preventive measures. OBJECTIVE: To correlate the physical-environmental elements associated with the occurrence of SYF in humans via a multicriteria analysis. METHODS: For the multicriteria analysis, preponderant elements rel

Integration of Spatial and Social Network Analysis in Disease Transmission Studies.

This study presents a case study of how social network and spatial analytical methods can be used simultaneously for disease transmission modeling. The paper first reviews strategies employed in previous studies and then offers the example of transmission of two bacterial diarrheal diseases in rural Bangladesh. The goal is to understand how diseases vary socially above and beyond the effects of the local neighborhood context. Patterns of cholera and shigellosis incidence are analyzed in space and within kinship-based social networks in Matlab, Bangladesh. Data include a spatially referenced lo

[Comparative analysis of the spatial organization of myoglobins. I. Hydrophobicity profiles].

Hydrophobicity profiles of myoglobins in the animal species far remote in the evolutionary series are considerably similar. A complete coincidence as to the arrangement of hydrophobic zones along the polypeptide chain in myoglobins of the compared species (from a man to mollusc) is revealed at the beginning of alpha-helix of B-segment and in the area corresponding to a cluster which embodies a heme- bound water molecule, distal histidine E7 being directed to this cluster. The mollusc myoglobin with two absent (as compared to myoglobins of other species) hydrophobic sites differs in the profile

Integration of spatial and fractal analysis for evaluating urban green areas.

Accurate assessment of urban green areas is essential for enhancing livability and guiding sustainable urban planning. This study investigates green space distribution in Samsun, Turkey, by integrating spatial and fractal analyses. Green areas in 77 neighborhoods across the Atakum, Ilkadim, and Canik districts were identified using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) derived from Sentinel-2A/2B imagery (July-October 2023). To extract green areas, both Otsu's automatic and manual thresholding methods were applied. Manual thresholding demonstrated higher classification accuracy in
