Velopharyngeal insufficiency is a complex condition with various treatment options. In this case, a patient with a cleft palate who was treated for velopharyngeal insufficiency with calcium hydroxyapatite injection pharyngoplasty developed persistent cervical pain on postoperative day 6. BACKGROUND: Using the US Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) human tetracycline breakpoints to predict minocycline and doxycycline susceptibility of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (SP) isolates from dogs is not appropriate because they are too high to meet pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic data using a standard dose. New breakpoints have been approved for doxycycline and proposed for minocycline. Revised breakpoints are four dilutions lower than tetracycline breakpoints, providing a more conservative standard for classification of isolates.

Bacterial skin infections, particularly pyoderma and otitis externa, are widespread in dogs, primarily caused by Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas species. This study evaluates the prevalence and types of bacterial pathogens in affected dogs in South Korea using a meta-analytical approach. The use of the penicillins in veterinary dermatology is discussed. An outline is provided of the main penicillins used in the veterinary field. These include benzyl penicillin, penicillin V, ampicillin, amoxycillin, co-amoxiclav and oxacillin. Thirty dogs with superficial pyoderma were treated orally with tylosin at a dose of 20 mg/kg twice daily for three weeks. Staphylococcus intermedius was recovered from 21 (70 per cent) of the dogs. Results of identification of 120 species of staphylococci isolated from trichomoniasis-suffering patients by means of the "staff-test" set of the Lachema firm are described. Swab specimens obtained from skin lesions of 45 cats were cultured bacteriologically for staphylococci. We have reported a bacterial infection in a dog with progressive dysplasia of the hips. Orthopedic surgery was performed. Seven weeks prior to the surgery, the patient was bitten by another dog.
