Genetic Algorithm-Optimized support vector machine for MRI-based multiple sclerosis diagnosis from white matter lesion features.

This study evaluates a genetic algorithm-assisted support vector machine (GA-SVM) framework for multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis using a publicly available dataset (n=709; 370 MS, 339 controls) comprising five pre-extracted white matter lesion features. Model performance was assessed using repeated nested stratified 10×5 cross-validation, with hyperparameter optimization confined to inner training folds and results reported from aggregated out-of-fold predictions. The tuned RBF-SVM achieved AUC=0.993, accuracy=0.987, sensitivity=1.000, specificity=0.973, precision=0.976, and F1-score=0.988 at

Multiclass classification of Alzheimer's disease prodromal stages using sequential feature embeddings and regularized multikernel support vector machine.

The detection of patients in the cognitive normal (CN), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and Alzheimer's disease (AD) stages of neurodegeneration is crucial for early treatment interventions. However, the heterogeneity of MCI data samples poses a challenge for CN vs. MCI vs. AD multiclass classification, as some samples are closer to AD while others are closer to CN in the feature space. Previous attempts to address this challenge produced inaccurate results, leading most frameworks to break the assessment into binary classification tasks such as AD vs. CN, AD vs. MCI, and CN vs. MCI. A hybrid approach using support vector machine rule-based system: detecting cyber threats in internet of things.

While the proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized several industries, it has also created severe data security concerns. The security of these network devices and the dependability of IoT networks depend on efficient threat detection. Device heterogeneity, computing resource constraints, and the ever-changing nature of cyber threats are a few of the obstacles that make detecting cyber threats in IoT systems difficult. Complex threats often go undetected by conventional security measures, requiring more sophisticated, adaptive detection methods. Therefore, this study pr

Research on Voxel-Based Features Detection and Analysis of Alzheimer's Disease Using Random Survey Support Vector Machine.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system characterized by memory and cognitive dysfunction, as well as abnormal changes in behavior and personality. The research focused on how machine learning classified AD became a recent hotspot. In this study, we proposed a novel voxel-based feature detection framework for AD. Specifically, using 649 voxel-based morphometry (VBM) methods obtained from MRI in Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI), we proposed a feature detection method according to the Random Survey Support Vector Machines (RS-SVM) and co

Support Vector Machine versus Multiple Logistic Regression for Prediction of Postherpetic Neuralgia in Outpatients with Herpes Zoster.

BACKGROUND: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), as the most common complication of herpes zoster (HZ), is very refractory to current therapies. Studies of HZ have indicated that early aggressive pain interventions can effectively prevent PHN; therefore, accurately predicting PHN in outpatients with HZ and treating HZ promptly, would be of great benefit to patients. Multiple logistic regression (MLR) has often been used to predict PHN. However, support vector machine (SVM) has been poorly studied in predicting PHN in outpatients with HZ. OBJECTIVE: The aim of our retrospective study was to analyze t

Distinguishing hypochondriasis and schizophrenia using regional homogeneity: a resting-state fMRI study and support vector machine analysis.

OBJECTIVE: A few former studies suggested that there are partial overlaps in abnormal brain structure and cognitive function between hypochondriasis (HS) and schizophrenia (SZ). But their differences in brain activity and cognitive function were unclear. METHODS: Twenty-one HS patients, 23 SZ patients, and 24 healthy controls (HC) underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) with the regional homogeneity analysis (ReHo), subsequently exploring the relationship between ReHo value and cognitive functions. Support Vector Machine Classification of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Based on Whole-Brain Volumetry and Diffusion Tensor Imaging.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods have been used to detect cerebral anatomical distinction between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients and healthy controls (HC). Machine learning approach allows for the possibility of discriminating patients on the individual level. However, few studies have used this automatic technique based on multiple modalities to identify potential biomarkers of OCD. High-resolution structural MRI and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) data were acquired from 48 OCD patients and 45 well-matched HC. Gray matter volume (GMV), white matter volume (WMV), fraction

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy of serum exosomes coupled with support vector machine for diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease (PD) diagnosis faces substantial challenges due to the lack of reliable biomarkers and the limitations of existing detection techniques. Exosomes, which carry biomolecular cargo reflective of disease pathology, are increasingly recognized as promising biomarkers because of their stable presence in biofluids and accessibility through minimally invasive methods. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) provides high sensitivity and rapid molecular fingerprinting, but its clinical translation is hindered by spectral variability and sample heterogeneity. To address these limi

Combined measurement of serum zinc with PSA ameliorates prostate cancer screening efficiency via support vector machine algorithms.

BACKGROUND: Early screening of prostate cancer (PCa) is pivotal but challenging in the clinical scenario due to the phenomena of false positivity or false negativity of some serological evaluations, e.g. PSA testing. Decline of serum Zn2+ levels in PCa patients reportedly plays a crucial role in early screening of PCa. Accordingly, we combined 4 indices comprising the serum levels of total PSA (tPSA), free PSA (fPSA), Zn2+ and demographic information (especially age) in order to ameliorate the efficacies of PCa screening with support vector machine (SVM) algorithms. METHODS: A total of 858 ma

Raman spectroscopy combined with a support vector machine algorithm as a diagnostic technique for primary Sjögren's syndrome.

The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of Raman spectroscopy combined with computer algorithms in the diagnosis of primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS). In this study, Raman spectra of 60 serum samples were acquired from 30 patients with pSS and 30 healthy controls (HCs). The means and standard deviations of the raw spectra of patients with pSS and HCs were calculated. Spectral features were assigned based on the literature. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to extract the spectral features. Then, a particle swarm optimization (PSO)-support vector machine (SVM) was selected a

Hypertension: Constraining the Expression of ACE-II by Adopting Optimal Macronutrients Diet Predicted via Support Vector Machine.

The recent elevation of cases infected from novel COVID-19 has placed the human life in trepidation mode, especially for those suffering from comorbidities. Most of the studies in the last few months have undeniably raised concerns for hypertensive patients that face greater risk of fatality from COVID-19. Furthermore, one of the recent WHO reports has estimated a total of 1.13 billion people are at a risk of hypertension of which two-thirds live in low and middle income countries. The gradual escalation of the hypertension problem andthe sudden rise of COVID-19 cases have placed an increasing

Control-group feature normalization for multivariate pattern analysis of structural MRI data using the support vector machine.

Normalization of feature vector values is a common practice in machine learning. Generally, each feature value is standardized to the unit hypercube or by normalizing to zero mean and unit variance. Classification decisions based on support vector machines (SVMs) or by other methods are sensitive to the specific normalization used on the features. In the context of multivariate pattern analysis using neuroimaging data, standardization effectively up- and down-weights features based on their individual variability. Since the standard approach uses the entire data set to guide the normalization,

Individual classification of children with epilepsy using support vector machine with multiple indices of diffusion tensor imaging.

INTRODUCTION: Support vector machines (SVM) have recently been demonstrated to be useful for voxel-based MR image classification. In the present study we sought to evaluate whether this method is feasible in the classification of childhood epilepsy intractability based on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), with adequate accuracy. We applied SVM in conjunction DTI indices of fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), radial diffusivity (RD) and axial diffusivity (AD). DTI studies have reported white matter abnormalities in childhood-onset epilepsy, but the mechanisms underlying these abnor

The Prediction of Human Abdominal Adiposity Based on the Combination of a Particle Swarm Algorithm and Support Vector Machine.

Background: Abdominal adiposity is an important risk factor of chronic cardiovascular diseases, thus the prediction of abdominal adiposity and obesity can reduce the risks of contracting such diseases. However, the current prediction models display low accuracy and high sample size dependence. The purpose of this study is to put forward a new prediction method based on an improved support vector machine (SVM) to solve these problems. Methods: A total of 200 individuals participated in this study and were further divided into a modeling group and a test group. Their physiological parameters (he

Classification of multiple cancer types by multicategory support vector machines using gene expression data.

MOTIVATION: High-density DNA microarray measures the activities of several thousand genes simultaneously and the gene expression profiles have been used for the cancer classification recently. This new approach promises to give better therapeutic measurements to cancer patients by diagnosing cancer types with improved accuracy. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) is one of the classification methods successfully applied to the cancer diagnosis problems. However, its optimal extension to more than two classes was not obvious, which might impose limitations in its application to multiple tumor type
