An elderly woman was incidentally noted to have a nodular mass on the upper eyelid, whilst under investigation for cataracts. Punch biopsy of this presumed basal cell carcinoma revealed it to be endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma (EMPSGC). The tumour extended to the deep dermal layer and comprised solid nests with foci of cystic and papillary change, and additional cytoplasmic and focal extracellular mucin deposits. A 70-year-old woman was examined for a 4-mm bluish nodule in the left upper eyelid. The lesion was excised and pathology showed it to be endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma with positive margins. She underwent Mohs surgery and reconstruction of the resulting defect. Clinicians should be aware of this entity given its association with invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma, a locally aggressive tumor with metastatic potential.

A case of multiple congenital epitrichial sweat gland hamartomas in a 2-day-old piglet is presented. The skin lesions were raised, ovoid to linear in configuration, alopecic, red-purple to pink, and cauliflower-like to cerebriform in appearance. Histological examination of skin specimens confirmed a diagnosis of epitrichial sweat gland hamartoma. Complete necropsy examination revealed no other lesions.

Endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma is a rare skin tumor that most commonly involves the eyelid of elderly women. Morphologically and immunohistochemically, it is analogous to endocrine ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast and mammary solid papillary carcinoma; also, like the analogous breast lesion, there is an often associated invasive mucinous carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation. We describe the case of a 65-year-old woman with endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma of the eyelid that recurred 3 years after an apparently complete excision.

OBJECTIVES: To report the clinical and pathologic features and to evaluate the treatment results of 7 cases of sweat gland carcinoma of the vulva.
METHODS: The clinical records of the 7 cases of sweat gland carcinoma of the vulva, admitted to our hospital for treatment between December, 1974 and December, 1994, were reviewed. The data including clinical and pathologic features, treatments and posttreatment follow-ups. Five of the 7 cases were referred from other hospitals, 4 followed by local resection and 1 with recurrence 7 years after surgery.

Mutation of the p53 gene and increased levels of p53 protein are among the most frequent alterations in human cancers. To date, very little is known about the mechanisms underlying the development of sweat gland carcinomas. In this study, we analyzed 43 benign and 39 malignant sweat gland tumors for p53 protein level using the antibody PAB1801. Nine (23%) of 39 sweat gland carcinomas were positive for p53 protein. Literature reports that patients affected by X-linked ichthyosis (XLI) have a reduction of sweat glands and a decrease of sweat production. The sweat physiology of 28 patients, 14 with XLI, 7 with lamellar ichthyosis, 7 with dominant ichthyosis and 28 control subjects were examined with sweat test, performed by pilocarpine iontophoresis. In the same patients we have performed skin biopsy to evaluate quantitative and qualitative reduction of sweat glands.

Endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma (EMPSGC) is a low-grade adnexal malignant neoplasm. We report a 90-year-old man who had a hard, dome-shaped tumor approximately 9 mm in diameter on the left cheek. Dermoscopy showed an overall, non-uniformly light-pink tumor with crust. The diagnosis of EMPSGC is made histologically from excisional biopsy. No signs of recurrent disease were evident at 42 months postoperatively.

Here we describe gross and microscopic sweat gland tumors found in a transgenic mouse model of breast cancer, which had transforming growth factor α under the control of mouse mammary tumor virus promoter (MMTV-TGFα). Endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma (EMPSGC), which is an uncommon sweat gland tumor with a predilection for the eyelids, is morphologically analogous to solid papillary carcinoma of the breast. We report the case of a 55-year-old man with a subcutaneous tumor of the upper cheek. The pathological findings for this patient were compatible with those of reported cases of EMPSGC, and p63 staining revealed partial microinvasion into the dermis. This report describes the clinical and pathological aspects of an apocrine sweat gland carcinoma with distant metastasis in an aged dog. A 7-year-old male terrier dog was referred to small animal hospital of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman with a 5.5×3.5 centimeter pedunculated mass on its head near left auricular region which had been progressively growing since three months ago. The radiography showed no local and distant metastasis. Surgical excision and histological evaluation was done. Histologically, the mass was composed of epithelial cells arranged in glandular and solid patterns.

We present the findings of an early-stage primary mucinous sweat gland adenocarcinoma in the lower eyelid of a Japanese patient. Sclerosing sweat-duct carcinoma is a rare malignancy of the skin. We herein present the case of a 68-year-old Japanese man who developed sclerosing sweat-duct carcinoma 2 years after undergoing local excision of a primary tumor in his right arm. Sweat gland carcinoma is a rare malignancy of the skin appendage. Surgeons and pathologists have limited experience with such tumor. Various classifications and diagnostic identifications lead to easy confusion with other metastatic lesions. Eight cases of sweat gland carcinoma were collected from 1020 cases of primary skin malignancies seen at the Veterans General Hospital-Taipei over the past 20 years. The influence of eccrine sweating on transepidermal water loss (TEWL) was investigated. TEWL was simultaneously measured on both forearms, with and without topical inactivation of the eccrine sweat glands by 0.3 ml of 0.5% aqueous scopolamine hydrobromide (HBr), applied under 1 h occlusive patches.
