PURPOSE: This report describes the clinical efficacy of combined corneal and conjunctival micropigment tattooing for the treatment of a corneoconjunctival opacity.
CASE SUMMARY: Combined corneal and conjunctival micropigment tattooing was performed on a 39-year-old man who had a cosmetic problem due to traumatic corneoconjunctival opacity. BACKGROUND: Tattooing is an alternative method for marking biopsied axillary lymph nodes (ALNs) before initiation of treatments for newly diagnosed breast cancer. Advances in laser therapy have led to novel therapeutic approaches to common pediatric skin conditions. As a non-invasive alternative to surgical options, laser therapy is efficacious in treating a broad range of conditions, from vascular and pigmented lesions to tattoo and hair removal. STUDY OBJECTIVE: Skin tattoos on the feet, legs, and lower abdominal wall are progressively gaining popularity. Consequently, the number of tattooed women with cervical cancer has significantly increased in the last decade. However, pigments of tattoo ink can be transported to regional lymph nodes and potentially clog lymphatic pathways that might also be used by sentinel labeling substances.
