BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Multimodal physical therapy for mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) has been shown to improve recovery. Due to the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a clinical trial assessing the timing of multimodal intervention was adapted for telerehabilitation. This pilot study explored feasibility and adoption of an in-person rehabilitation program for subacute mTBI delivered through telerehabilitation.
METHODS: Fifty-six in-person participants-9 males; mean (SD) age 34.3 (12.2); 67 (31) days post-injury-and 17 telerehabilitation participants-8 males; age 38.3 (12.7);

AIMS: Current cardiac telerehabilitation (CTR) interventions are insufficiently tailored to the preferences and competences of individual patients, which raises the question whether their implementation will increase overall participation and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation (CR). However, research on patient-specific factors that influence participation and adoption of CTR interventions is scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate which patient-related characteristics influence participation in a novel CTR intervention in patients with coronary artery disease.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Thi

BACKGROUND: Cardiac rehabilitation can reduce mortality of patients with cardiovascular disease, but a frequently low participation rate in rehabilitation programs has been found globally. The objective of the Teledialog study was to assess the cost-utility (CU) of a cardiac telerehabilitation (CTR) program. The aim of the intervention was to increase the patients' participation in the CTR program. At discharge, an individualized 3-month rehabilitation plan was formulated for each patient. At home, the patients measured their own blood pressure, pulse, weight, and steps taken for 3 months.

Background: Structured postoperative rehabilitation is not routinely provided for individuals with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) after surgery, with physiotherapy typically limited to the immediate inpatient period. Telerehabilitation offers an accessible and supervised option to address persistent functional limitations, pain, and quality-of-life concerns in this population. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a synchronous telerehabilitation program-designed to support post-surgical recovery in individuals with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS)-on trunk muscle

In this brief communication, we reported Telehealth Home-Based Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) program structure and preliminary outcomes from patients that completed a 12-week program after coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). We aim to advocate the use of Telerehabilitation as a Phase II CR in patients immediately after the CABG. This approach was innovative and encouraging because the patients were still in subacute phase. The program can serve as a continuation of care for the patients after being discharged from a hospital while regaining their functional ability at home. Our prelimin

BACKGROUND: Postoperative rehabilitation is essential to improve quality of life (QoL), pain control, and upper limb function in women undergoing surgery for breast cancer (BC). Telerehabilitation has emerged as a promising alternative to conventional rehabilitation, especially in patients with limited access to care, but its comparative efficacy remains uncertain.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of telerehabilitation compared with standard care or no treatment in improving QoL, pain, handgrip strength, and upper limb function in women undergoing BC surgery.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is a major global health problem. Physiotherapy involving exercises is considered first-line treatment. In recent years digital tools including telerehabilitation have increased, but the interventions are diverse. The aim of this study was to map how telerehabilitation approaches are used in studies evaluating exercise-based rehabilitation in patients with chronic low back pain.
METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Cinahl and Cochrane Central between January 2017 and January 2024 for original studies on adults, 18 years or older, with chro

AIMS: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is indicated in patients with cardiovascular disease but participation rates remain low. Telerehabilitation (TR) is often proposed as a solution. While many trials have investigated TR, few have studied participation rates in conventional CR non-participants. The aim of this study was to identify the percentage of patients that would be willing to participate in a TR programme to identify the main perceived barriers and facilitators for participating in TR.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Two groups of patients were recruited: CR non-participants and CR participants. Se

In recent years, remote exercise services ("telerehabilitation") have been increasingly explored and implemented, including in supportive cancer care, on the promise of greater convenience, access independent of geographic location, reduced infection risk, and cost savings. Ethical commentary on telehealth in general is substantial, but sustained discussion of questions specific to telerehabilitation remains comparatively sparse. As contributors to PREFERBALE-II, a European Union-funded project evaluating live-remote exercise for people recovering from cancer treatment, we sought practical gui

INTRODUCTION: Nocturnal hypokinesia (NH) (i.e., reduced bed mobility) is common in people with Parkinson's Disease (PwPD), significantly affecting sleep quality. Physiotherapy showed encouraging results to treat this symptom but was poorly investigated. Moreover, telerehabilitation could be useful to increase treatment capillarity and to overcome logistic limitations. In this pilot study we investigated preliminary feasibility, safety and effectiveness of a telerehabilitation program in mild-to-moderate PwPD with NH.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixteen PwPD with disease stage < 4, presence of NH a

BACKGROUND: Among cardiovascular diseases, adult patients with congenital heart disease represent a population that has been continuously increasing, which is mainly due to improvement of the pathophysiological framing, including the development of surgical and reanimation techniques. However, approximately 20% of these patients will require surgery in adulthood and 40% of these cases will necessitate reintervention for residual defects or sequelae of childhood surgery. In this field, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in the postsurgical phase has an important impact on the patient by improving psyc

Introduction: Limited access to pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) has contributed to the rise of telerehabilitation (TPR) for COPD patients. Positive comparable effects are observed in exercise tolerance, quality of life (QoL), and dyspnoea with TPR. However, patient adherence to TPR is an outcome that has not been sufficiently analysed. Objective: To analyse adherence, satisfaction, and quality-of-life improvements in COPD patients following the TPR program to determine whether telerehabilitation is comparable to conventional therapy or usual care. Methods: A systematic search was conducted using

INTRODUCTION: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune condition affecting mainly the skin and musculoskeletal system. Clinically, SSc translates to chronic pain, fatigue and loss of functionality. Rehabilitation interventions aim to improve motor functions, relieve pain, maintain work capacity, and promote functional independence in patients with SSc. However, the effectiveness of different rehabilitation modalities, including telerehabilitation, remains insufficiently described in the literature.
METHODS: This review aimed to describe the effectiveness of rehabilitation and telerehabilitat

Objectives: To summarize the impact of various telerehabilitation interventions on motor function, balance, gait, activities of daily living (ADLs), and quality of life (QoL) among patients with stroke and to determine the existing telerehabilitation interventions for delivering physiotherapy sessions in clinical practice. Methods: Six electronic databases were searched to identify relevant quantitative systematic reviews (SRs). Due to substantial heterogeneity, the data were analysed narratively. Results: A total of 28 systematic reviews (n = 245 primary studies) were included that examined v

BACKGROUND: Balance impairments, that lead to falls, are one of the main symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). Telerehabilitation is becoming more common for people with PD; however, balance is particularly challenging to assess and treat virtually. The feasibility and efficacy of virtual assessment and virtual treatment of balance in people with PD are unknown. The present study protocol has three aims: I) to determine if a virtual balance and gait assessment (instrumented L-shape mobility test) with wearable sensors can predict a gold-standard, in-person clinical assessment of balance, the M
