Evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Test Anxiety Coping Skills (TACS) measure.

This study examined the psychometric properties of the Test Anxiety Coping Skills (TACS) measure, a new self-report scale developed to assess strategies employed by school-age students to cope with test anxiety. TACS proposed a three-factor structure of test anxiety coping skills that correspond to the three major treatment methods identified across previous studies as important components of test anxiety intervention programs: cognitive strategies, behavioral strategies, and study and test-taking skills. The study was conducted among a sample of 228 secondary school students (Grades 8 and 9)

Ayahuasca Improves Self-perception of Speech Performance in Subjects With Social Anxiety Disorder: A Pilot, Proof-of-Concept, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Ayahuasca is a classic hallucinogen with anxiolytic and antidepressive properties. Anecdotal evidence also suggests that it improves performance (eg, singing, speech). This controlled trial assessed the effects of ayahuasca on speech performance and anxiety in individuals with social anxiety disorder. METHODS: Seventeen volunteers with social anxiety disorder participated in a pilot, proof-of-concept, randomized, parallel-group trial. Self-perception of performance during a public-speaking test was assessed with the Self-statements During Public Speaking Scale primary outcome). Se

Pornographic consumption in young adult men and its relationship with stress and dissociative symptoms: A cross-sectional STROBE design.

Recent findings indicate that deficits in emotional regulation, stress and anxiety may influence lower sexual satisfaction, sexual dysfunctions and increased consumption of pornography. The objective of this research was to assess if traumatic stress and dissociative experiences from previous life manifested by typical symptoms will be related to increased levels of pornography consumption. In this observational study 1100 adult young men (mean age 27.55, age range 20-35, standard deviation = 5.21) were assessed for their pornography consumption behavior (sexual addiction screening test-revise

A public health perspective on virtual reality interventions: exploring the impact of VR extreme sports on stress, anxiety, and depression in men with social anxiety disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Men diagnosed with social anxiety disorder (SAD) often face significant challenges in daily functioning, particularly within social settings. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR)-based extreme sports games in reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress in this population. The intervention was designed to offer an engaging, immersive, and potentially less stigmatizing alternative to conventional therapeutic approaches. METHODS: A quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test assessments was employed. Eighty-four men with SAD were se

Online Assessment of Preschool Anxiety: description and initial validation of a new diagnostic tool.

BACKGROUND: The Online Assessment of Preschool Anxiety (OAPA) is a newly developed measure that assesses anxiety disorders in preschool children aged 3-6 years. This study aimed to explore the OAPA's initial psychometric properties with a particular focus on examining its construct validity, both convergent and discriminant. METHOD: The OAPA was completed online by a community sample of 319 Australian parents of temperamentally inhibited preschool children (M: 5.3 years). Preliminary diagnoses were automatically generated before assessment reports were reviewed by a psychologist. Construct va

Assessment-related anxiety among older adults: development of a measure.

Older adults are the largest population seeking neuropsychological assessment services. Anxiety has been shown to impact test scores, yet no anxiety measure currently exists specific to older adult neuropsychological assessment. This study piloted and validated the Feelings About Neuropsychological Testing measure (FANT), a measure of neuropsychological assessment anxiety developed to measure the cognitive, affective, and physiological aspects of test and state anxiety. The measure was validated on 105 community based older adults aged 55 and older. All participants were administered the FANT,

Development and initial validation of the Visual Social Anxiety Scale (VSAS): Could a picture be worth a thousand words?

Accurate assessment is crucial for determining appropriate therapeutic interventions for social anxiety and conducting sound clinical research. While self-report measures of social anxiety are widely used in both research and clinical settings, they have several drawbacks inherent to their textual nature. Here, we describe the development and initial validation of the Visual Social Anxiety Scale (VSAS), a novel picture-based self-report measure of social anxiety, based on the well-established widely-used Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS). Specifically, the 24 items of the LSAS were used as

This study examined the psychometric properties and structural validity of a foreign language Classroom anxiety scale in an Arabic-speaking sample (N = 327; Mage = 25.87 years, SD = 7.15) drawn from universities in Libya and Saudi Arabia. Foreign language anxiety was assessed using the Arabic Foreign Language Anxiety Questionnaire (AFLAQ), alongside measures of psychological distress (DASS-8) and resilience (BRS). Confirmatory factor analysis supported a three-factor structure comprising Communication Apprehension, Fear of Negative Evaluation, and Test Anxiety, with acceptable model fit. Measu

Anxiety is one of the most common causes of withdrawal from follow-up among women with abnormal Papanicolaou screening results. The purpose of this study was to investigate predictors of anxiety in women with abnormal Papanicolaou smear in cervical cancer screening program. A population-based, cross-sectional study concerning the factors related to anxiety was carried out during 2017 in a cohort of women (N = 172) with positive Papanicolaou screening test before and after diagnostic procedures (colposcopy/biopsy/endocervical curettage) at one university Clinical Center in Serbia. The Hamilton Anxiety Scale: reliability, validity and sensitivity to change in anxiety and depressive disorders.

The Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A) was tested for reliability and validity in two different samples, one sample (n = 97) defined by anxiety disorders, the other sample (n = 101) defined by depressive disorders. The reliability and the concurrent validity of the HAM-A and its subscales proved to be sufficient. Internal validity tested by latent structure analysis was insufficient. The major problems with the HAM-A are that (1) anxiolytic and antidepressant effects cannot be clearly distinguished; (2) the subscale of somatic anxiety is strongly related to somatic side effects. The applicability

Psychometric properties of the dimensional anxiety scales for DSM-V in an unselected sample of German treatment seeking patients.

BACKGROUND: Dimensional assessments are planned to be included as supplements to categorical diagnoses in DSM-V. The aim of this study was to examine the unidimensionality, reliability, validity, and clinical sensitivity of brief self-rated scales for specific anxiety disorders in an unselected German sample of consecutive attendees to a psychological clinic. These scales use a common template to assess core constructs of fear and anxiety. METHODS: Dimensional scales for social anxiety disorder, specific phobia, agoraphobia, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder were administered a
