Photothermal Heating and Real-Time In Situ Luminescent Thermometry with Iron Oxide Core-Silica Shell Nano-Objects.

In a world increasingly focused on precision and efficiency, achieving reliable nanoscale thermal feedback in nanoparticle-assisted heating presents significant challenges. It requires meticulous control over the morphology of nano-objects and the precise spatial arrangement of the heater and the local temperature probe, both of which are critical for accurate surface temperature readouts. In this work, real-time nanoscale temperature measurements are presented during the nanoparticle-assisted photothermal heating by using new nano-objects consisting of single iron oxide nanoparticles encased

Agreement of zero-heat-flux thermometry compared with infrared tympanic temperature monitoring in adults undergoing major surgery.

The patient's body temperature significantly fluctuates, affected by factors, including anesthesia. The ideal temperature monitoring method that is suitable for perioperative application is of great significance for identifying hypothermia and malignant hyperthermia early, as well as for guiding intraoperative temperature protection. This study aims to compare the cutaneous zero-heat-flux (ZHF) thermometer application in general anesthesia using the infrared tympanic measurement as a reference. We conducted a prospective observational study and enrolled 130 patients scheduled for major surgery

Single camera 20  kHz two-color formaldehyde PLIF thermometry using a dual-wavelength-switching burst mode laser.

We propose and demonstrate a two-color formaldehyde planar laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy thermometry scheme using the third-harmonic of injection-seeded Nd:YAG lasers. The 28183.5cm-1 and 28184.5cm-1 peaks of formaldehyde are identified to measure the low-temperature combustion zone. Using a fast dual-wavelength-switching burst mode amplifier and a high-speed camera, high-repetition-rate (20 kHz) temperature field measurement is validated on a laminar coflow diffusion flame and demonstrated on a turbulent reacting jet in hot crossflow. Directly using the 355 nm output has the advanta

Non-invasive measurement of brain temperature using radiometric thermometry: experimental validation and clinical observations in asphyxiated newborns.

BACKGROUND: Therapeutic hypothermia (HT) has been shown to decrease death and severe disability in infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Rectal temperature (RT) is used to determine the temperature set-points for treatment with HT, however experimental studies have shown significant differences between RT and brain temperature during HT. Knowledge of actual brain temperature during HT might allow better determination of optimal degree of cooling and improve outcomes. OBJECTIVES: To compare measurements of brain temperature obtained by non-invasive radiometric thermometry (RadT)

Infrared Thermometry and Thermography in Detecting Skin Temperature Variations to Predict Venous Leg Ulcer Reulceration: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to determine whether monitoring skin temperature (Tsk) over recently healed venous leg ulcers (VLUs) can provide an objective approach to predicting reulceration. The cases presented in this article were part of a larger, multisite, 6-month randomized clinical trial of a cooling intervention to prevent ulcer recurrence among patients with chronic venous disease (CVD) and with recently healed VLUs. CASES: We report a series of four patients with CVD, three experienced VLU reulceration, and one case remained free of recurrence. Assessments of recurrence likelihood is based

Agreement of zero-heat-flux thermometry with the oesophageal and tympanic core temperature measurement in patient receiving major surgery.

To identify and prevent perioperative hypothermia, most surgical patients require a non-invasive, accurate, convenient, and continuous core temperature method, especially for patients undergoing major surgery. This study validated the precision and accuracy of a cutaneous zero-heat-flux thermometer and its performance in detecting intraoperative hypothermia. Adults undergoing major non-cardiac surgeries with general anaesthesia were enrolled in the study. Core temperatures were measured with a zero-heat-flux thermometer, infrared tympanic membrane thermometer, and oesophagal monitoring at 15-m

Tunable A-site crystal-field modulation enables ultra-sensitive, multi-channel lanthanide thermometry in low-phonon halide lattices.

The development of high-performance lanthanide-based fluorescence-intensity-ratio (FIR) thermometers is limited by the lack of a continuously tunable, qualitative guided crystal-field design principle. Most systems still rely on empirical host-dopant screening, and the correlation among lattice geometry, crystal-field strength, energy gap (ΔE), and thermometric sensitivity (Sr) remains unclear. Here, we establish an A-site lattice-site engineering strategy in APb2Cl5 (A = Na, K, Rb, Cs and solid solutions), where the A-site ionic radius acts as a single tunable parameter to regulate local geom

High-sensitivity optical thermometry with Cr3+-doped hybrid formate perovskites: comparative analysis of ratiometric and lifetime-based approaches.

Optical thermometry, due to its properties such as rapid response, usability, high sensitivity, and remote measurements, is gaining increasing interest among researchers. Particularly promising materials for low-temperature thermometry applications are metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) containing chromium(III) ions. In this work, we present a method for optimising data for the development of a temperature sensor, with particular focus on the relative sensitivity parameter (Sr). As part of the optimisation process, we distinguish two approaches using different data analysis techniques and observe

Multi-echo MR thermometry in the upper leg at 7 T using near-harmonic 2D reconstruction for initialization.

PURPOSE: The aim of this work is the development of a thermometry method to measure temperature increases in vivo, with a precision and accuracy sufficient for validation against thermal simulations. Such an MR thermometry model would be a valuable tool to get an indication on one of the major safety concerns in MR imaging: the tissue heating occurring due to radiofrequency (RF) exposure. To prevent excessive temperature rise, RF power deposition, expressed as specific absorption rate, cannot exceed predefined thresholds. Using these thresholds, MRI has demonstrated an extensive history of saf

Effects of motion and b-value on apparent temperature measurement by diffusion-based thermometry MRI: eye vitreous study.

PURPOSE: To make noninvasive measurements of temperature in the posterior chamber (vitreous) of the eye using diffusion-based thermometry (DBT) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to explain variability in these measurements due to choice of b-value and the effects of motion. METHODS: Phantom studies of human vitreous and distilled water were performed using b-values from 0 to 1500 s/mm2 to determine the liquid-specific calibration factor for vitreous as well as to determine the temperature offsets due to sampling the diffusion curve using three higher routine clinical b-values (b = 0, 500,

Implementation of foot thermometry plus mHealth to prevent diabetic foot ulcers: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot neuropathy (DFN) is one of the most important complications of diabetes mellitus; its early diagnosis and intervention can prevent foot ulcers and the need for amputation. Thermometry, measuring the temperature of the feet, is a promising emerging modality for diabetic foot ulcer prevention. However, patient compliance with at-home monitoring is concerning. Delivering messages to remind patients to perform thermometry and foot care might be helpful to guarantee regular foot monitoring. This trial was designed to compare the incidence of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) bet

Modulating Luminescence Thermometry of the EuIII/TbIII Pair in Coordination Polymers through Ligand Structure and Lanthanide(III) Molar Ratio.

Accurate temperature sensing at the nanoscale has become a powerful tool to monitor heat dissipation in miniaturized systems, driving the development of noncontact luminescent thermometers with high sensitivity. EuIII/TbIII-based coordination polymers are particularly attractive for thermometry due to their structural tunability, which allows the correlation of structural and electronic parameters with thermometric performance. Herein, we compare the luminescence thermometry of a series of one-dimensional coordination polymers, [Ln-(tfa)3(μ-dppeo)]n, [Ln-(tfa)3(μ-dppbo)]n, [Ln-(hfa)3(μ-dppeo)]

Prescribing Home Digital Thermometry Coupled with Activity Dosing and Optimized Offloading to Prolong Diabetic Foot Remission: A Case Report.

People with a history of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) experience diminished health-related quality of life and are at a 40% annual risk of DFU recurrence. Due to a fear of DFU recurrence, people in DFU remission participate less in physical activity and moderate-intensity exercise when compared to people with diabetes who have not had wounds. There is novel evidence to suggest that too little activity during DFU remission contributes to only low magnitudes of repetitive tissue loading creating a higher susceptibility to skin trauma during inadvertent high-activity bouts. Conversely, a hasty ret

Needle-Induced HU Bias Correction for Quantitative CT Thermometry in CT-Guided Microwave Ablation: An Ex Vivo Feasibility Study.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: Metallic microwave ablation antennas introduce structured Hounsfield unit (HU) bias that can degrade quantitative CT thermometry. We developed a needle-centered method to suppress its repeatable low-frequency component. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This ex vivo feasibility study used six porcine liver specimens. Three livers provided independent room-temperature HU-temperature calibration, yielding κ=-0.31°C/HU. HU was measured as the mean within a 2-mm-diameter circular ROI centered at the temperature-probe tip. E1 used two no-antenna repeat scans; E2 used three scans at

Cross-sectional analysis of site- and ambient temperature-related variability in noncontact infrared thermometry among healthy Black African adults.

ObjectivesNoncontact infrared thermometers are widely used for rapid screening, particularly during infectious disease emergencies. Although noncontact use is time-efficient and helps maintain a safe distance, their readings may be influenced by the anatomical measurement site and ambient temperature, and evidence from Black African populations remains limited. This study examined the variability and agreement of noncontact infrared thermometer-derived surface temperature readings obtained from different anatomical sites under two controlled ambient temperature conditions in healthy Black Afri

Intraoperative zero-heat-flux thermometry overestimates nasopharyngeal temperature by 0.39 °C: an observational study in patients undergoing congenital heart surgery.

During surgery for congenital heart disease (CHD) temperature management is crucial. Vesical (Tves) and nasopharyngeal (TNPH) temperature are usually measured. Whereas Tves slowly responds to temperature changes, TNPH carries the risk of bleeding. The zero-heat-flux (ZHF) temperature monitoring systems SpotOn™ (TSpotOn), and Tcore™ (Tcore) measure temperature non-invasively. We evaluated accuracy and precision of the non-invasive devices, and of Tves compared to TNPH for estimating temperature. In this prospective observational study in pediatric and adult patients accuracy and precision of TS

Soft Lattice and Dual-Emitter Engineering in Cr3+-Doped Fluorides: Achieving Highly Sensitive and High-Fidelity Near-Infrared Optical Thermometry.

Cr3+-activated near-infrared phosphors are a promising optical thermometry platform in biomedicine and industrial applications, yet confront low lifetime sensing sensitivity (Sr < 2% K-1). Here, Li3GaF6:Cr3+ is proposed as a high-sensitive, high-fidelity thermometry via a soft structure and dual-emitter modulation. Two Ga sites yield a dual-emitter mechanism: isolated Cr3+ ions and spatially confined Cr3+-Cr3+ pair (<5 Å interatomic distance)─a novel observation in fluorides. Density functional theory, Rietveld refinement, and luminescence behavior confirm that Cr3+ evenly occupies both Ga sit
