Observer Ratings of Leader Empathy, Openness, and Perceptiveness: The Impact of Timing on Group Climate.

The current study explored observer rated leadership empathy, perceptiveness, and openness, session number, and their associations with group climate during a 12-week group therapy randomized controlled trial (RCT) to treat perfectionism. Seventy group members from ten psychodynamic-interpersonal psychotherapy groups completed the Group Climate Questionnaire at the third and ninth treatment sessions and trained observers rated the co-leaders' empathy, perceptiveness, and openness at the second and sixth treatment sessions. Higher combined leader perceptiveness was positively associated with gr

Pain perception during intravitreal injections is related to the timing of instilling anesthetic eyedrops.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the correlation between the timing of instilling anesthetic eyedrops prior to intravitreal injection and the patient's perception of pain associated with the injection. METHODS: A prospective observational study which included 192 eyes of 192 patients. Time interval between instillation of Oxybuprocaine-0.4% and Tetracaine-0.5% eyedrops upon checking-in and injection was measured and pain level was evaluated by the 101-point-Numeric Rating Scale. RESULTS: We found significant correlation between time interval from the first eyedrops to injection and injection related pai

Differential Temporal Perception Abilities in Parkinson's Disease Patients Based on Timing Magnitude.

Non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's Disease (PD) predate motor symptoms and substantially decrease quality of life; however, detection, monitoring, and treatments are unavailable for many of these symptoms. Temporal perception abnormalities in PD are generally attributed to altered Basal Ganglia (BG) function. Present studies are confounded by motor control facilitating movements that are integrated into protocols assessing temporal perception. There is uncertainty regarding the BG's influence on timing processes of different time scales and how PD therapies affect this perception. In this study

Fear perception as a function of hemisphere- and time-specific dynamics in the medial temporal lobes.

The medial temporal lobes (mTL) are thought to enhance visual processing of fearful faces, yet the underlying mechanisms remain underspecified. To fill this gap, we recorded and compared event-related potentials (ERPs) and stimulus-induced gamma-band activity (GBA) from 36 patients with left- or right-hemispheric antero-medial temporal lobe resections including the amygdala (lTLR/rTLR) and 18 healthy controls. Only rTLR patients were found to lack fear-neutral differentiation in early P1 amplitudes (~100 ms) and exhibited heightened GBA for neutral faces over ipsi-resectional occipito-temporal

Telemedicine in Times of Crisis-A SWOT Assessment Based on Romanian Healthcare Professionals' Perceptions.

Background and Objectives: Unlike previous studies that have examined telemedicine primarily in pandemic contexts, this research adopts a dual-crisis perspective, assessing perceptions during both pandemics and armed conflicts. Recent health crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and armed conflicts, have exposed vulnerabilities in health systems and underscored the need for evidence-based strategies to enhance resilience. Telemedicine has emerged as an essential tool for ensuring continuity of care, mitigating workforce shortages, and improving access for vulnerable groups. This study examin

Perception of normal and treatment level ejaculatory latency times in men with premature ejaculation.

BACKGROUND: Although the normal intravaginal ejaculation latency time (NIELT) as subjectively perceived by patients with premature ejaculation (PE) and expected IELT (EIELT), which represents the individual's expectations of what treatment for PE would achieve, are critically influential in the treatment of patients with PE, there is a significant dearth of exploratory research on NIELT and EIELT among patients with PE. AIM: To explore the NIELT and EIELT of patients with PE, understand why patients with PE perceive such a long IELT as normal, and identify factors associated with EIELT. METH

Family Subsystems Predicting Adolescents' Perceptions of Sibling Relationship Quality Over Time.

This study examined associations between parents' relationship conflict and parent-adolescent triangulation, and changes in adolescents' perceptions of sibling affection and hostility. The goal was to learn whether conflict in parents' relationships spills over to siblings' relationships, or whether siblings compensate by becoming less hostile and more affectionate. Using a subsample (N = 400) from the Flourishing Families Project (FFP), we found a trend for mother-adolescent triangulation predicting an increase in sibling hostility across 2 years. Fathers' reports of relationship conflict wer

Right frontal HD-tDCS reveals causal involvement of time perception networks in temporal processing of concepts.

Evidence suggests that perceptual and action related features of concepts are grounded in the corresponding sensory-motor networks in the human brain. However, less is known about temporal features of event concepts (e.g., a lecture) and whether they are grounded in time perception networks. We examined this question by stimulating the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (rDLPFC)-a part of time perception network-using HD-tDCS and subsequently recording EEG while participants performed semantic and time perception tasks. Semantic tasks were composed of event noun duration judgment (EDur), obj

Time perception impairment in early-to-moderate stages of Huntington's disease is related to memory deficits.

Huntington's disease (HD) primarily affects striatum and prefrontal dopaminergic circuits which are fundamental neural correlates of the timekeeping mechanism. The few studies on HD mainly investigated motor timing performance in second durations. The present work explored time perception in early-to-moderate symptomatic HD patients for seconds and milliseconds with the aim to clarify which component of the scalar expectancy theory (SET) is mainly responsible for HD timing defect. Eleven HD patients were compared to 11 controls employing two separate temporal bisection tasks in second and mill

Duration-specific time perception impairments in adolescents with ADHD: links to executive function and symptom dimensions.

Difficulties in temporal processing (TP) are frequently reported in individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), yet adolescents remain underexamined despite their critical role in executive maturation. This study investigated whether adolescents with ADHD exhibit domain-specific TP impairments and whether executive functions (EF) and ADHD symptom dimensions predict temporal performance. Fifty-four adolescents aged 12-18 years (27 ADHD, 27 controls) completed a Duration Discrimination Task, a Time Reproduction Task (1000-5000 ms), and a 53-second Time Estimation Task. EF w

Quantifying time perception during virtual reality gameplay using a multimodal biosensor-instrumented headset: a feasibility study.

We have all experienced the sense of time slowing down when we are bored or speeding up when we are focused, engaged, or excited about a task. In virtual reality (VR), perception of time can be a key aspect related to flow, immersion, engagement, and ultimately, to overall quality of experience. While several studies have explored changes in time perception using questionnaires, limited studies have attempted to characterize them objectively. In this paper, we propose the use of a multimodal biosensor-embedded VR headset capable of measuring electroencephalography (EEG), electrooculography (EO

Male practitioners of physical activity present lower absolute power of beta band in time perception test.

Cortical changes resulting from physical activity and differences in the estimation of the time of practitioners and non-practitioners of physical activity have already been documented. However, there aren't studies that compare the cortical responses of the time estimate between these groups. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influence of the level of physical activity in time estimation and beta band activity in frontal regions, specifically in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, ventrolateral prefrontal cortex, and parietal cortex during the task of estimating time in practitio

The effect of COVID-19 lockdowns on sleep time perception: Comparing actigraphy and sleep diary measures.

COVID-19 has become a long-term problem, and global pandemic conditions may persist for years. Researchers are providing mounting evidence of relationships between COVID-19 lockdowns and sleep problems. However, few studies have investigated the impact of home isolation on sleep time perception, especially in comparable social isolation situations with similar pressures. Subjective sleep time perception parameters were derived from sleep diaries. Objective parameters were derived from actigraphy. Subjective and objective data were obtained between February 17 and February 27, 2020 from 70 adul

Determinants and stability over time of perception of health risks related to mobile phone base stations.

OBJECTIVE: Perception of possible health risks related to mobile phone base stations (MPBS) is an important factor in citizens' opposition against MPBS and is associated with health complaints. The aim of the present study is to assess whether risk perception of MPBS is associated with concerns about other environmental and health risks, is associated with psychological strain, and is stable on the individual level over time. METHODS: Self-administered questionnaires filled in by 3,253 persons aged 15-69 years in 2004 and 2006 in Germany. RESULTS: Risk perception of MPBS was strongly associa
