Alveolar Bone Fracture: Pathognomonic Sign for Clinical Diagnosis.

AIM: Dental injuries, especially luxation and avulsion, are common. Dental trauma can cause alveolar bone fracture that can lead to tooth loss and malocclusion. Single tooth alveolar bone fractures are difficult to identify unless it protrudes through the overlying mucosa and can be visualized. Pain, malocclusion, and tooth mobility provide signs of suspected alveolar bone fractures. Integrity of the proximate alveolar bone should be examined for fractures where avulsion, luxation, or other tooth trauma is detected. Any suggestion of alveolar fractures should be further investigated with an ap

Autotransplantation of an intruded lateral incisor replacing an avulsed central incisor--a case report.

UNLABELLED: Oral injuries cause aesthetic, psychological, social, and therapeutic problems and also affect a large number of people, causing irreparable dental loss not only at the accident time but also during post-treatment. Missing permanent teeth by trauma in children is a particular challenge, especially in the anterior region of the maxilla. In the past few decades, tooth transplantation has been successfully researched for the treatment of anterior tooth loss in young individuals. OBJECTIVE: The present case describes transplantation of an excessive intrusive maxillary left lateral inc

Delayed reimplantation: a case report.

A 12-year-old boy reported to the clinic with a history of trauma, whereas playing 1 day before. On examination it was noted that the patient had an avulsed tooth in relation to 11, Class III fracture in relation to 12 and Class II fracture in relation to 21. The avulsed tooth was brought by the patient wrapped in a newspaper. Although the tooth was in highly unfavorable storage condition, it was decided to reimplant the teeth since the patient was young and to relieve him from psychological, cosmetic and functional trauma. Now after 24 months, the tooth is, functional, firm and free of sympto

An eleven-year case report of an avulsed maxillary central incisor after delayed replantation.

A 12 year-old girl presented with an avulsed maxillary central incisor for a trauma occurred two days earlier. The avulsed tooth was endodontically treated and replanted. Regardless of the ankylosis and replacement root resorption the tooth was retained for a very favourable nine-year period after trauma. In addition no severe infraposition occurred. When the extraction was necessary, despite the slight atrophy, as a result of compromised alveolar bone development due to ankylosis, an implant-supported crown was placed as definitive rehabilitation without recourse to bone augmentation procedur

Union between deciduous and permanent as intrusive luxation sequelae: A case report.

Traumatic dental injuries (TDI) are common in children due learning to walk and lack of balance that leads to falls. Luxation is the trauma that occurs most frequently in the deciduous, being that the intrusive and the avulsive are the ones that cause more damage to the permanent successors. The potential to cause disturbances to the developing permanent germ is high due to anatomical proximity and depends on age, direction of intrusion, severity and treatment. The consequences to the permanent range from hypocalcifications of enamel to retention of the permanent germ. In this case, the develo

Clinical and histopathological characterization of root resorption in replanted teeth: Two case reports.

RATIONALE: The frequency of tooth avulsion is on the rise due to increasing rates of maxillofacial trauma. Avulsed teeth present with varying degrees of root resorption, and are generally asymptomatic; therefore, they often go undiagnosed. The etiopathogenesis of root resorption in replanted teeth following avulsion remains unclear. PATIENT CONCERNS: In case 1, the left upper lateral incisor became loose after 10 years of replantation. In case 2, the patient underwent tooth replantation after external root canal treatment due to tooth dislocation caused by trauma 8 years ago. DIAGNOSIS: Acco

Prompt Parental Reimplantation of an Avulsed Permanent Incisor in an Eight-Year-Old Child With Five-Year Follow-Up: A Case Report.

This report presents a successful long-term outcome of an immediate replantation of an avulsed immature permanent maxillary central incisor in an eight-year-old girl. The avulsion occurred at home during recreational activity, and the tooth was replanted within 10 min by the patient's mother, a trained allied health professional. Clinical and radiographic assessments confirmed an open apex (Cvek stage 4), and the patient was managed in accordance with the International Association of Dental Traumatology guidelines, including flexible splinting and close follow-up. Over a five-year period, the

Decoronation: An Alternative Treatment for Replacement Root Resorption.

INTRODUCTION: Ankylosis and disrupted or altered root development are frequent complications associated with intrusive luxation and tooth avulsion lesions. Various forms of treatment have been described according to the severity of the trauma and root development. The literature shows that decoronation is an ideal treatment in cases where replacement resorption occurs. METHODS: Two clinical cases are presented: involving intrusive luxation [15-year-old female patient with an affected maxillary left lateral incisor (2.2)] and a replanted avulsed tooth [8-year-old male patient with avulsion of

Delayed replantation of an avulsed immature permanent incisor and apexification using a novel fast-setting calcium silicate cement containing fluoride: a 3-year follow-up case report.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic tooth avulsion requires an urgent intervention to replant the tooth. Prolonged post-injury dry extra-oral conditions worsen the prognosis and increase the risk of root resorption. Fluoride has the potential to delay replacement resorption. Calcium silicate cements (CSC) are used to seal the root canal system and to stimulate periapical regeneration in immature open apex teeth (apexification). This report suggests the application of a novel fast-setting CSC with fluoride for apexification in an attempt to hinder root resorption. CASE REPORT: A delayed replantation of an a

The tooth as a foreign body in soft tissue after head and neck trauma.

Thorough evaluation of dentition is important in the management of craniofacial trauma. Avulsed or fractured teeth in the pulmonary and gastrointestinal tracts can lead to serious complications that are well described. However, the penetration of avulsed teeth into soft tissues of the head and neck is unusual and may not be recognized. Two cases in which a tooth became a foreign body in these soft tissues are illustrative. One patient had bronchoscopy for possible aspiration of an avulsed maxillary canine; it was later found embedded in the premaxillary tissues. The other patient had a right m

Duplications within exon 1 of TNFRSF11A encoding receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B (RANK) are associated with tendon avulsion.

INTRODUCTION: Different length in-frame duplications within exon 1 of TNFRSF11A encoding receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B (RANK) increase osteoclast action and cause rapid turnover bone disease. Complications include deafness, fractures, immobilization hypercalcemia, tooth resorption, and painful skeletal deformities. We investigated two siblings and their father and an unrelated girl with this autosomal dominant dento-osseous phenotype who suffered tendon avulsions. PATIENTS: A 13-year-old boy, his 16-year-old sister, and their 43-year-old father, all with hearing loss and progre

Immediate self-replantation of an avulsed permanent mandibular incisor - a case report.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 50% of children under the age of 15 years are subjected to various kinds of injuries in the orofacial region. In the permanent dentition, the most severe dental injury affects the surrounding alveolar bone structure and leads to loss of the tooth. The current literature emphasizes that the awareness of appropriate triage procedures following dental trauma is unsatisfactory and that delay in treatment is the single most influential factor affecting prognosis. RESULTS: This case report presents the immediate self-replantation of a right lateral mandibular incisor of a

Intentional replantation and management of avulsion related ankylosis and external cervical resorption. A 10-year follow up case report.

Replantation is the treatment of choice for avulsed permanent teeth; ankylosis and cervical root resorption are among survival complications. A 9.5-year-old boy presented with an avulsed maxillary permanent central incisor with an open root apex following a school accident. The tooth was kept in milk, after a dry time of 15-20 min. Its replantation was performed 60 min after the accident. At 8 months, apexification with apical plug was attempted upon radiographic evidence of apical periodontitis. Ankylosis sound with infraocclusion and radiographic evidence of external cervical root resorption

Long-Term Follow-Up of a Patient with Ankylosis of a Primary Incisor Caused by Trauma: A Case Report.

Introduction and Clinical Significance: Tooth ankylosis is a serious complication that can occur because of the replantation of an avulsed tooth. However, few reports have investigated the follow-up of replanted or ankylosed primary incisors because the replantation of primary teeth is not recommended in the guidelines of the International Association of Dental Traumatology. Case Presentation: A boy aged 4 years and 8 months was referred to hospital for further evaluation of the maxillary right primary central incisor. It had been avulsed and replanted 2 years earlier. The tooth was positioned
