Hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) is a powerful oxidising agent. It gives rise to agents known to be effective bleaching agents. The mechanisms of bleaching involve the degradation of the extracellular matrix and oxidation of chromophores located within enamel and dentin. However, H(2)O(2) produces also local undesirable effects on tooth structures and oral mucosa. In clinical conditions, the daily low-level doses used to produce tooth whitening never generate general acute and sub-acute toxic effects. Genotoxicity and carcinogenicity only occur at concentrations that are never reached during denta

White teeth provide an aesthetic foundation for smiling with confidence. However, teeth were easily stained in daily life by drinking tea, coffee, wine, or smoking, which leads to a growing demand for teeth whitening. Traditional peroxide-based dental whitening agents effectively remove external stains but pose safety risks due to their strong oxidizing action, including enamel demineralization, soft tissue irritation, and potentially causing microbial imbalance. Additionally, their application requires specialized equipment and professional oversight, limiting accessibility for nonexperts. He

This systematic review and network meta-analysis aimed to determine whether the use of violet light alone (VIOL) or its combination with bleaching gels (BGVIOL) results in superior bleaching efficacy compared to bleaching gel alone (BG). Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) were identified through searches in PubMed, Cochrane Central, LILACS/BBO, SCOPUS, Web of Science, EMBASE, and gray literature sources in March, 2025. Eligible RCTs compared in-office bleaching using BG, or VIOL, or BGVIOL. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to evaluate the risk of bias (RoB 2.0) of the eligible RCTs. A ra

Internal bleaching is a conservative, non-invasive, and simple treatment that is frequently performed in daily clinical practice. The present in vitro study analyzes the oxygen expansion of different bleaching agents resulting from the oxidation reaction when interacting with enamel and dentin. Enamel and dentin were crushed separately until obtaining a fine powder with particles of an approximate size between 0.06 and 0.2 mm. Each enamel and dentin sample were mixed with 37% carbamide peroxide (CP 37%), 30% hydrogen peroxide (HP 30%), sodium perborate (SP) combined with HP 30% (HP 30% + SP) a

OBJECTIVE: Teeth bleaching is one of the most popular aesthetic dental treatments, uses to address both extrinsic and intrinsic tooth discoloration. However, variations in bleaching efficacy between the upper and lower dental arches are commonly observed. Sublingual salivary glands may play a role in these differences by increasing saliva contamination of bleaching trays, which accelerates the degradation of bleaching gel and may reduce its effectiveness in the lower arch. This study aims is to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of bleaching treatments in the upper and lowe arches.

Intracoronal bleaching has emerged as a popular technique to bleach discoloured, endodontically treated anterior teeth. Although hydrogen peroxide and sodium perborate have traditionally been used in intracoronal bleaching, some concern has been expressed regarding the use of hydrogen peroxide, mainly because of the suspected "cause and effect" relationship between hydrogen peroxide and invasive cervical root resorption. Other complications associated with use of hydrogen peroxide alone or in combination with sodium perborate include increased dentine permeability, alteration in the chemical s

Bleaching materials containing 30% hydrogen peroxide have been used successfully for the treatment of discolored non-vital teeth. Intracoronal application of these materials was occasionally associated with the development of external root resorption. Extracted human teeth with intact crowns were discolored in vitro and bleached with three preparations of sodium perborate. These preparations included: sodium perborate with 30% hydrogen peroxide, sodium perborate with 3% hydrogen peroxide and sodium perborate with water. The bleaching materials were placed in the pulp chamber of the discolored

INTRODUCTION: A number of vital pulp therapy techniques have been recommended to preserve pulp vitality in teeth with complicated crown fractures, especially in young patients. Calcium hydroxide has been the gold standard as a pulp capping material, but recently mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has been recommended. This case report describes the treatment of tooth discoloration caused by white MTA (WMTA) used for the management of a complicated crown fracture.
METHODS: A partial pulpotomy was performed with the use of WMTA after a complicated crown fracture of the upper right central incisor

OBJECTIVES: Incipient enamel caries, known as white spot lesions (WSLs), can be prevented or halted with proper oral hygiene, diet control, and application of remineralizing agents such as silver diamine fluoride (SDF); however, dark staining is a major drawback of SDF. This study aimed to compare the effects of at-home and in-office bleaching on SDF-induced staining of WSLs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this in vitro study, 44 bovine central incisors were randomly assigned to 2 groups (n = 22) for artificial induction of superficial and deep WSLs. Next, both groups underwent remineralization by
