Dental traumatology : official publication of International Association for Dental Traumatology2020eng
BACKGROUND/AIM: Anti-allergic drugs can inhibit the hard tissue resorption process, and due to similarities between root resorption and bone mechanisms, it can be inferred that these drugs may also control root resorption. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of anti-allergic drugs used systemically on the process of root resorption following delayed tooth replantation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-two maxillary right incisors of rats were extracted and subsequently replanted. Rats were divided into four groups according to the anti-allergic drug administered: the rats in groups

The present clinical report introduces a novel surgical procedure, the apical tooth replantation with surgical intrusion technique (ATR-SIT), for managing teeth with a hopeless prognosis compromised with a severe endoperiodontal lesion, pathologic tooth migration, and gingival recession. Two cases are presented that manage teeth diagnosed with a hopeless prognosis. ATR-SIT involves tooth extraction, extraoral root debridement, root surface conditioning, apicoectomy, retrograde filling, and the application of enamel matrix derivatives prior to reimplantation. Following reimplantation, the teeth

BACKGROUND: The periodontal ligament (PDL) comprises cells embedded in the extracellular matrix (ECM) and is required for periodontal healing upon tooth transplantation. However, the extent to which the ECM contributes to periodontal regeneration remains unknown. This study aimed to evaluate effects of separate PDL matrix without cells on periodontal healing.
METHODS: Mandibular premolars extracted from six beagle dogs, were 1) left untreated, 2) decellularized, or 3) surface planed. Cytologic, histologic, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy analyses confirmed t

The regeneration process of dental pulp following tooth replantation in rat molars was investigated by immunocytochemistry for heat shock protein (Hsp) 25 and protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5). In control teeth at postnatal 4 weeks, the odontoblasts showed intense Hsp 25-immunoreactivity in the coronal dental pulp, but little or no immunoreactivity in the root and floor pulp. In contrast, the Hsp 25-negative odontoblasts in the latter areas displayed immunoreactivity for PGP 9.5. Tooth replantation caused loss of Hsp 25- and PGP 9.5-immunoreactions in the dental pulp during postoperative days

Dental pulp is assumed to possess the capacity to elaborate both bone and dentin matrix under the pathological conditions following tooth injury. This study was undertaken to clarify the mechanism inducing bone formation in the dental pulp by investigating the pulpal healing process, after tooth replantation, by micro-computed tomography (mu-CT), immunocytochemistry for heat-shock protein (HSP)-25 and cathepsin K (CK), and histochemistry for both alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP). Under deep anesthesia, the upper right first molar of 4-week-old Wistar ra

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effect of implant-assisted dental intentional replantation (IR) for the treatment of "drifted" anterior periodontally hopeless teeth (PHT).
METHODS: The present authors recruited 22 patients with stage III/IV periodontitis who suffered drifting of the maxillary anterior teeth, with a total of 25 teeth. The PHT were extracted for in vitro root canal treatment (RCT). The root surface was smoothed and the shape was trimmed, and the alveolar socket was scratched. The dental implant system was used to prepare the alveolar socket according to the direction, de

Although it has already been shown that enamel matrix derivative (Emdogain) promotes periodontal regeneration in the treatment of intrabony periodontal defects, there is little information concerning its regenerative capacity in cases of delayed tooth replantation. To evaluate the alterations in the periodontal healing of replanted teeth after use of Emdogain, the central incisors of 24 Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus albinus) were extracted and left on the bench for 6 h. Thereafter, the dental papilla and the enamel organ of each tooth were sectioned for pulp removal by a retrograde way and th

BACKGROUND: Excessive inflammation in the periodontal tissue after tooth replantation can lead to inflammatory root resorption and interrupt periodontal tissue regeneration. We tested the hypothesis that nuclear factor-κB decoy oligodeoxynucleotide-loaded poly lactic-co-glycolic acid nanospheres (NF-PLGA) inhibit excessive inflammation and promote healing of periodontal tissue after replantation in rats.
METHODS: The upper right incisors of rats were extracted, immersed in different specific solutions, and replanted. The rats were euthanized at 7, 14, and 28 days after replantation. Morpholog

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory external root resorption is one of the possible complications of replantation of an avulsed tooth. Several studies have shown that limited FOV CBCT is an efficient diagnostic support and in treatment planning of these cases in paediatric patients because of its high resolution combined with low radiation doses. The recent literature has suggested that Biodentine is an effective material for resolution of inflammatory root resorption.

This article reports a clinical case of a 10-year-old boy who sustained an avulsion of the maxillary right central incisor. The avulsed tooth was kept in adverse extraoral dry conditions for 26 hours from the moment of trauma until its replantation. Treatment guidelines for avulsed mature permanent teeth with closed apex were only partially followed. However, the clinical and radiographic findings after 10 years revealed acceptable functional outcome, in spite of ankylosis and root resorption of the replanted tooth, which was eventually treated cosmetically.

The major concern in the therapeutics of tooth replantation refers to the occurrence of root resorption and different approaches have been proposed to prevent or treat these complications. The purpose of this study was to evaluate tissue response to delayed replantation of anterior rat teeth treated endodontically using calcium hydroxide, Sealapex, and Endofill without the placement of gutta-percha cones. Thirty rats had their right upper incisor extracted and maintained in dry storage for 60 min. After removal of the dental papilla, enamel organ, pulp tissue, and periodontal ligament remnants

Endodontic-periodontal lesions are characterized by the involvement of the pulp and periodontal disease in the same tooth. Despite successful root canal treatment, if the majority of bone support has been lost from periodontitis, the tooth may have a poor prognosis. In severe endodonticperiodontal lesions, the periodontal tissue regenerates poorly because of the significant loss of the periodontal ligament and cementum, poor tooth stability, and bone defect morphology that is unfavorable for bone regeneration. To overcome these difficult situations, osteotomy of the replantation bed and tooth

INTRODUCTION: In many cases, the replanted teeth may undergo resorption or ankyloses. Recent studies show that autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) may improve the outcomes of tooth replantation. The aim of this systematic review was to summarize and critically appraise the currently available literature on the use of APCs before tooth replantation.
METHODOLOGY: An electronic search was conducted on the following research databases: PubMed/MEDLINE, ISI Web of Science, EMBASE and Scopus. The following medical subject heading (MeSH) keywords used were: ((tooth replantation) OR (replanted too

Intentional replantation is a process that involves purposeful tooth extraction and subsequent reinsertion of the removed tooth. Intentional replantation may be a therapeutic option worth considering to preserve the natural teeth and prevent tooth extraction, even though the success rate is not always high. Systemically healthy male patient was referred to our department. Diagnosis was chronic periodontitis and class III mobility was noted at the right maxillary central incisor with complete periodontal attachment loss. After phase I therapy periodontally involved tooth was extracted, endodont

Between 1979 and 1997, 58 avulsed primary teeth were treated at the Pedodontic Clinic of Niigata University Dental Hospital. Among these, we replanted six avulsed incisors of four patients and treated two teeth of two patients replanted at other dental clinics. Referring to the clinical records, oral photographs and radiographs, we examined the injury age, cause of injury, condition of tooth storage, length of time until replantation, and also the prognosis after replantation. Three teeth of two cases remained until eruption of their permanent successors, and one tooth of one case remained und

BACKGROUND: Tooth avulsion is the most serious dental trauma, mainly affecting anterior teeth in adolescents. Delayed tooth replantation is the most common situation in clinical, but root resorption is a common complication that can lead to tooth loss. As implant is not feasible in adolescents, strategies to mitigate root resorption remain a major challenge in dentistry. We aim to evaluate the therapeutic effect and potential target of periodontal ligament stem cell-conditioned medium (PDLSC-CM) to reduce root resorption in delayed replanted tooth.
METHODS: Clinical samples from delayed tooth

Introduction and Clinical Significance: Tooth ankylosis is a serious complication that can occur because of the replantation of an avulsed tooth. However, few reports have investigated the follow-up of replanted or ankylosed primary incisors because the replantation of primary teeth is not recommended in the guidelines of the International Association of Dental Traumatology. Case Presentation: A boy aged 4 years and 8 months was referred to hospital for further evaluation of the maxillary right primary central incisor. It had been avulsed and replanted 2 years earlier. The tooth was positioned

Tooth avulsion is defined as the complete displacement of the tooth out of its alveolar socket. The treatment of choice is immediate replantation or if that is not possible, placement of the tooth in an appropriate storage media. This report presents replantation of an avulsed maxillary central incisor after 12 hours of storage in milk. The tooth was replanted and splinted. One week later, it was treated endodontically and calcium hydroxide dressing was placed for 1 month; subsequently, the tooth was obturated with gutta-percha. During three years of follow-up, no evidence of ankylosis or infl

Prognosis in relation to an exarticulated, replanted tooth is poor. Late complications are frequent and often lead to tooth loss. However, the root of a replanted, avulsed tooth may be slowly resorbed preserving alveolar width and postpones replacement of the tooth to a more convenient time. During healing following transplantation or replantation of teeth, various dental and oral structures are involved. Late complications relate to various factors. Tissues and factors involved are reviewed. Knowledge of this subject derives mostly from results of transplantation studies in animals.

OBJECTIVES: Tooth avulsion is defined as total tooth displacement from the alveolar socket; the best treatment is replantation of the tooth. Human milk influences body health, growth, and development related to the presence of micro and macro nutrient components. This study assessed the effects of human colostrum as a storage medium on the success of tooth replantation.
METHODS: The upper left incisor of 30 adult male Wistar rats was extracted, and the rats were divided into three groups according to the storage medium of the extracted tooth for replantation: Hank's balanced salt solution (HB
