OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to elucidate the contemporary clinical characteristics and evolving trends of laryngeal tuberculosis(LTB), thereby providing evidence for optimizing clinical diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the clinical data from patients diagnosed with LTB at a single-center medical institution in northern China between July 2014 and June 2025.
RESULTS: A total of 49 patients with LTB were included in this study, predominantly males aged 55-64 years. The most common presenting symptom was hoarseness (67.34%), while systemic

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effects of antituberculosis treatment on the voice quality of laryngeal tuberculosis patients, measured by patient self-assessment, perceptual analysis and acoustic analysis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 14 laryngeal tuberculosis patients were enrolled. Laryngeal tuberculosis was established either by biopsy and histopathological examination or by rapid regression of the laryngeal lesions after antituberculosis medication. Before and after treatment, all patients were evaluated perceptually (on a scale of zero to three), and 12 assessed their own voices using

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of laryngeal tuberculosis and to consider tuberculosis management in ENT practice.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A 44-year-old man, a smoker with pulmonary sarcoidosis experienced dysphonia with dysphagia. Laryngeal fibroscopy revealed an ulcerated epiglottic lesion. Direct laryngoscopy was performed to detect carcinoma, laryngeal sarcoidosis or tuberculosis. The histologic study revealed granulomatosis with giant cells and caseous necrosis. Tissue culture identified Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
RESULTS: Antituberculosis therapy decreased dysphonia and dysphagia. Isolated

Although the incidence of laryngeal tuberculosis has been declining over the past 30 years, it should still be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients with laryngeal pathology. In contrast to the pre-chemotherapy era, few, if any, signs of pulmonary tuberculosis are seen in such cases, and presentation is similar to either chronic non-specific laryngitis or carcinoma. The subglottis is a site rarely involved in laryngeal tuberculosis. Tissue biopsy and culture are diagnostic and a full course of antituberculous chemotherapy usually resolves the condition. Airway insufficiency due

INTRODUCTION: Tuberculosis is a chronic bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, usually affecting the lung, but very rare cases of isolated laryngeal tuberculosis have been reported.
PURPOSE: To demonstrate the importance of considering the diagnosis of this disease, which presents with very variable and sometimes misleading clinical and endoscopic features, but for which medical treatment is very effective.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective study was based on ten cases of laryngeal tuberculosis managed between January 2004 and December 2009. The objective of this st

BACKGROUND: Having hoarseness of voice as the first clinical manifestation of tuberculosis is rare. This atypical presentation causes some confusion since other more common conditions, such as laryngeal carcinoma, present similarly and might require more invasive tests to confirm the diagnosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 38-year-old male presented to the otorhinolaryngology clinic with a four-month history of change in voice. Laryngoscopy demonstrated a right glottic mass, raising suspicion of laryngeal cancer. The computed tomography showed a mass and incidental finding of opacities in lung apices

Histoplasma capsulatum is an endemic granulomatous fungus disease. Involving the larynx of an immunocompetent patient with this is a rare manifestation. A sixty years old farmer who was previously diagnosed and treated as pulmonary tuberculosis was presented as a progressive change of voice and intermittent attack of unproductive cough with no history of stridor and fever for last 7 months. Clinical and imaging investigations were suggestive of laryngeal tuberculosis or laryngeal neoplasm. Laryngoscopy revealed edema, erythema and leukoplakia of the right vocal cord. Histopathological report s

PURPOSE: The aim is to study the current clinical features of tubercular laryngitis in adult patients with pulmonary involvement in the absence of other nontubercular comorbidities.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Medical records of histopathology confirmed cases with pulmonary Kochs in a tertiary medical center of a developing country from 1993 to 2007.
RESULTS: Thirty-two biopsy-proven cases of laryngeal tuberculosis with pulmonary involvement were found. Patients' ages ranged from 16 to 65 years. The male-to-female ratio was 4.3:1. Hoarseness of voice was the commonest symptom. Most of them were a

Tuberculosis of the larynx, once a common disease, has become quite rare with the advent of anti-tuberculous chemotherapy. In the pre-antibiotic era two modes of laryngeal infection were recognized; bronchogenic and hematogenous. The literature is briefly reviewed. Thirteen patients in the past 15 years in whom tuberculous laryngitis was diagnosed upon indirect laryngoscopy by members of the University of Michigan Department of Otorhinolaryngology are presented. Bronchogenic infection was present in 11, and in two patients the disease was consistent with hematogenous spread. Tissue biopsy from

Vocal cord paralysis is a common entity with diverse causes clinically manifesting as dysphonia. Vocal cord paralysis due to respiratory cause is due to involvement of left recurrent laryngeal nerve usually secondary to bronchogenic carcinoma. However, it can also be seen in association with other less well recognised causes such as pulmonary tuberculosis. We present to you a patient with hoarseness of voice due to left recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis secondary to endobronchial tuberculosis.

Granulomatous disorders of the larynx can take on many forms and usually represent the end stage of chronic disease. In the past, laryngeal granulomas were much more prevalent primarily because of the frequency of tuberculosis. Seldom is the larynx the site of origin for granulomatous disease, but it is usually a manifestation of a pulmonary entity such as histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, sarcoidosis, or tuberculosis. The actual diagnosis is frequently arrived at while trying to rule out carcinoma. Laryngeal tuberculosis, although rare in the United States, remains the most common granulomatous

The incidence of laryngeal histoplasmosis is low when compared to the total number of cases. Less than 100 cases of laryngeal histoplasmosis have been described in the medical literature. Isolated laryngeal involvement may lead to the misdiagnosis and mistreatment of tuberculosis or laryngeal cancer, according to some reports. The development of hoarseness in a patient with histoplasmosis or a laryngeal mass leading to hoarseness, might be suggestive of laryngeal histoplasmosis. When histoplasmosis is included among the differential diagnoses of a laryngeal lesion, the biopsy should be limited

The diagnostic and treatment of verrucous lesions of the larynx involves a high level of suspicion by the physician attending the patient. The causes may go from unspecific laryngitis to neoplasia and granulomatous diseases. This kind of lesion is uncommon and the presentation aspects may vary broadly. The lesions in larynx are significant source of morbidity. The onset of symptoms is insidious and the diagnosis is usually delayed. Symptoms include dysphonia, dyspnea, dysphagia and odynophagia. Proper treatment depends upon tissue biopsy, identification of the causative organism, and the appro
