[Medico-genetic study of the population of Uzbekistan. VII. Variability of hereditary pathology in 4 regions of Khorezm province].

Medical-genetic study was carried out in the population of Khorezm province (population size above 200 000 persons). Hereditary pathology was ascertained among families having two or more members affected with chronic non-infectious diseases. 155 families with 348 members affected with hereditary diseases were registered. The most frequent were autosomal recessive diseases (55 nosological forms in 104 families with 271 affected), then followed the autosomal dominant conditions (10 nosological forms in 21 families with 53 affected). The less frequent was X-linked recessive pathology (6 forms in

Ecological Niche Characterization and Potential Distribution of the Subendemic Species Cicer grande (Popov) Korotkova (Fabaceae) in Uzbekistan.

Cicer grande (Popov) Korotkova is a rare, subendemic species within the flora of Uzbekistan, primarily inhabiting mountainous landscapes. As a wild progenitor of nutritionally significant cultivated crops, it holds considerable potential for enhancing food security and mitigating hunger through applications in sustainable agriculture and the conservation of plant genetic resources. This study employed species distribution modeling to examine the ecological niche, geographic distribution, and potential habitat suitability of C. grande across Uzbekistan. Data from herbarium specimens and field s

Putting the poorly documented 1998 GLOF disaster in Shakhimardan River valley (Alay Range, Kyrgyzstan/Uzbekistan) into perspective.

On July 8, 1998, the deadliest glacier lake outburst flood (GLOF) in Central Asia for at least the last 100 years occurred in the Shakhimardan catchment, Kyrgyzstan. Most of the >100 victims were, however, killed in the Uzbek enclave of Shakhimardan, i.e. in the downstream part of this transboundary catchment. No warnings were issued between the two countries. In addition, due to political tensions, access to the site was impossible and a detailed assessment of the disaster could not be realized until now. Using remote sensing, we show that the lake at the origin of the "Shakhimardan event" ap

Prevalence and epidemiology of hepatitis B and hepatitis D in Uzbekistan-results from a population-based serosurvey, 2022.

OBJECTIVES: Uzbekistan, historically a country with high hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection endemicity, introduced infant hepatitis B vaccination in 2001 and has sustained ≥90% coverage for hepatitis B vaccine birth dose (HepB-BD) and three or more doses. In 2017, Uzbekistan initiated hepatitis B elimination activities. However, data on hepatitis B prevalence in the general population were lacking. METHODS: In 2022, we conducted a serosurvey among persons aged ≥5 years using stratified cluster sampling. Blood samples were tested for markers of HBV and hepatitis D virus (HDV) infections. RESUL

Hepatitis B and D burden in Uzbekistan: comprehensive analysis of seroprevalence and risk correlates from a countrywide study.

BACKGROUND: Uzbekistan faces a substantial burden of hepatitis B and D virus (HBV and HDV) infections despite implementing universal hepatitis B vaccination in 1998. Regional variation in disease distribution and contemporary transmission dynamics remain inadequately characterized. Our objective was to evaluate the geographically stratified prevalence of HBV and HDV, while also identifying the key risk factors fueling transmission within the adult population of Uzbekistan. METHODS: We conducted a nationwide cross-sectional study of 10,552 adults across seven regions of Uzbekistan from July 20
