Sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) is an uncommon, non-malignant vascular lesion of the spleen that can resemble malignant lesions during imaging studies. Histologically, the spleen comprises two parts: the red pulp, which acts as a blood filter, and the white pulp, which plays a crucial role in immunity. Primary splenic neoplasms are classified into lymphoid neoplasms, which arise from the white pulp, and vascular neoplasms, which arise from the red pulp. Lesions arising from vascular elements include benign lesions, such as hemangioma, hamartoma, and SANT, as well as interm

Cancer epidemiology, biomarkers & prevention : a publication of the American Association for Cancer Research, cosponsored by the American Society of Preventive Oncology2026eng
BACKGROUND: Myeloid neoplasms are a group of pathologies characterized by clonal hematopoiesis and genetic mutations, often associated with inflammation and cardiovascular (CV) risk. Whereas targeted therapies have improved prognosis, they may also lead to CV adverse effects. The aim was to analyze the risk of developing CV or cerebrovascular disease (CVD) events in patients who received a diagnosis of myeloid neoplasm, considering four subgroups of myeloid neoplasms: chronic myeloid leukemia, myeloproliferative neoplasm, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and acute myeloid leukemia.
METHODS: D

BACKGROUND: Appendiceal neoplasms are rare, but recent data indicate a rising trend, particularly in patients under the age of 50. These tumours are often diagnosed incidentally during histopathological examination. This study has aimed to examine the incidence and histological subtypes of appendiceal neoplasms in a Southern Hungarian population.
METHODS: Our study included neoplastic appendix specimens processed at the University of Szeged between 2014 and 2023.
RESULTS: Neoplasms were identified in 71 cases from 3640 appendectomies (1.9%). Benign lesions were present in 37% of cases (n = 2

Intramuscular hemangiomas are rare benign vascular neoplasms. IMH accounts for less than 1% of all hemangiomas. These neoplasms commonly occur in trunk and extremities but are rare in head and neck region. The present case is a 17-year-old female patient, who presented with a painless, slowly enlarging mass in left sided upper neck for 4 years. Investigations were suggestive of vascular neoplasm. She underwent excision of the mass in toto under general anesthesia. Postoperative period was uneventful. Histopathological examination of the mass revealed it as mixed type of intramuscular hemangiom

Malignant epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (MEH), also known as high-risk epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, is a low- to intermediate-grade vascular malignancy originally described as a vascular neoplasm of endothelial origin. This very rare vascular neoplasm has been described mainly in soft tissue, but also in various organs and locations, including the liver, lung, brain, colon, lymph nodes, peritoneum, spleen, bone, skin, heart, soft tissues, and vascular system. Several cases have been described in the head and neck, including the submandibular gland, parotid gland, nasal cavity, paraphar

The effect of administration of hydroxylamine (HA) to male and female mice was studied because of reports suggesting an anticarcinogenic effect and an enhancement of lifespan. In this study, two C3H sublines were used: the C3H/HeN which carries a germinal provirus of the mouse mammary tumor virus and the C3H/HeJ(+) which also carries the milk-transmitted exogenous virus. Lifetime administration of 10 mM HA in the drinking water resulted in a decrease in mammary neoplasm incidence in female C3H/HeN mice, but not in female C3H/HeJ(+) mice. Ovarian neoplasms and cysts were common in all groups, i

Adenomatoid tumors are well-recognized neoplasms generally considered to be of mesothelial derivation. We describe an unusual vascular neoplasm that arose in the testis of a 29-year-old and resembled an adenomatoid tumor by light microscopy. An orchiectomy was performed, and the patient is alive and disease-free 3 years later. The 2-cm tumor was composed of small tubules lined by mesothelial-like cells with uniform, vesicular nuclei. However, some lumina contained erythrocytes, and immunohistochemically, the luminal cells reacted with antibodies to vimentin, Factor VIII-related antigen, and Ul

A halo phenomenon describes a skin neoplasm that is surrounded by a hypopigmented or white halo. Halo lesions have been observed in association with an epithelial neoplasm (seborrheic keratosis), a fibrous lesion (surgical scar), a keratinocyte malignancy (basal cell carcinoma), melanocytic neoplasms, and vascular lesions. Benign lesions (café au lait macules and nevi) and malignant tumors (primary and metastatic melanoma) are melanocytic neoplasms that have developed perilesional halos. Halo nevi are a commonly occurring manifestation of a halo phenomenon; however, perilesional hypopigmented

We report a case of rare Castleman's disease of the kidney that mimicked a renal neoplasm with emphasis on the imaging and histologic findings. A 47-year-old man presented with dyspeptic symptoms. Ultrasound revealed a vascular, heterogeneous mass in the left kidney. Multiphasic CT scan confirmed an enhancing lesion with enlarged left para-aortic lymph nodes suspicious for nodal metastases. The provisional diagnosis was renal cell carcinoma. Percutaneous biopsy yielded a diagnosis of Castleman's disease of the hyaline-vascular type. Despite advancement in imaging modalities, differentiation of

This overview of mesenchymal tumors presenting in the skin and/or subcutis in children brings together the range of neoplasms and hamartomas which are seen in this age-group. It is not surprising from the perspective of the pediatric or general surgical pathologist that vascular anomalies, including true neoplasms and vascular malformations, are the common phenotypic category. Since there is considerable morphologic overlap among these lesions, clinicopathologic correlation may be more important than for many of the other mesenchymal tumors. The skin and subcutis are the most common sites of c

Mesenchymal lesions of the vulva include site-specific entities limited to the lower genital tract, as well as a range of non-site-specific tumors that are more common at extragenital sites. Site-specific lesions include fibroepithelial stromal polyp, cellular angiofibroma, angiomyofibroblastoma, and aggressive angiomyxoma. Non-site-specific tumors that may occur in the vulva include those of smooth muscle, skeletal muscle, vascular, neural, adipocytic, and uncertain differentiation. This review discusses both site-specific and non-site-specific vulvar mesenchymal lesions including non-neoplas

Eighteen months after the resection and micro-vascular reconstruction of central ossifying fibroma of the right mandible in a 54-year-old male patient, there occur two synchronous neoplasms, basal cell adenoma (BSA) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Two years after reconstructive surgery, the patient reported a second primary OSCC on the left retromolar mucosa. This case reports two morphologically diverse benign neoplasms preceding metachronous OSCC in one individual. While field cancerization makes the entire mucosa susceptible to the development of multiple primary malignant neoplasm

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) of the lung and pleura are rare tumors. Primary pleural EHE are associated with aggressive behavior and poor clinical outcome. Recent advances in EHE include the development of immunohistochemical markers of vascular differentiation, namely Fli-1, and the identification of a specific chromosomal translocation (t(1;3)(p36;q25)). We present a 19 year old male patient with a rapidly progressive malignant neoplasm that presented as a multinodular lung parenchymal process, with associated pleural effusion and thickening. Pathologic examination revealed a pleur

Multinucleate cell angiohistiocytoma (MCA) represent an uncommon benign fibrohistiocytic vascular lesion that sometimes may go undiagnosed because of its clinical and histopathological similarities with benign fibrous histiocytoma and other soft-tissue neoplasms especially when localized on oral cavity or semi mucosa. We report the case of a solitary multinucleate cell angiohistiocytoma on the lower lip of a 46-year-old woman suggesting that this rare lesion should be considered in the differential diagnosis of the oral soft-tissue neoplasms.

A case of simultaneous development of multiple vascular neoplasms in a patient with a previous history of burns and lymphoblastic lymphoma is reported. Microscopic examination revealed angiomatosis made up of diffuse capillary proliferation. We speculate that endogenous factors could have played an important role in the development of these neoplasms. We discuss the clinical and histological differential diagnosis of the case presented: a disseminated variant of lobular capillary haemangioma, Kaposi's sarcoma, bacillary angiomatosis and hyperplastic granulation tissue.

PURPOSE: This study investigated the association between prior diagnoses of neoplasms and the onset of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
METHODS: A retrospective case-control study was conducted using health records from 2 724 individuals in the All of Us Program, a longitudinal cohort of U.S. adults. Odds ratios (OR) and Fisher's exact tests were used to evaluate associations between neoplasms and AMD in a matched cohort. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis assessed how neoplasms affected time to AMD onset.
RESULTS: Benign neoplasms of the colon (OR: 1.90, 95% CI: 1.55-2.33), skin (OR: 1.4

Hemangioma is a common benign vascular neoplasm that closely resembles normal vessels and can be found in all organs of the human body. Vascular lesions can be classified as infantile hemangiomas or vascular malformations on the basis of their natural history, location, cellular turnover, and histologic characteristics. The magnetic resonance (MR) imaging features of vascular malformations of the central nervous system depend on the pathologic subtype. Soft-tissue vascular malformations can be categorized with combined MR imaging and MR angiography as either high- or low-flow. Osseous vascular

Haemangiomas are benign vascular tumours and several types can be distinguished based on microscopical features. Capillary and cavernous haemangiomas are most commonly reported in man and domestic animals. Arteriovenous haemangiomas are rare variants in man and herein we describe this subtype in two dogs and one cat. One dog and the cat presented with a cutaneous vascular lesion, the other dog with a bleeding mass in the tongue. Surgically excised masses comprised non-encapsulated proliferations of variably sized arterial- and venous-like vessels, accompanied by clusters of capillaries and imm
