Pre-pubertal presentation of peritoneal inclusion cyst associated with congenital lower extremity venous valve agenesis.

Peritoneal inclusion cysts are uncommon lesions that usually occur in the pelvis of reproductive-age females. The case of a 7-year-old girl with an inflamed peritoneal inclusion cyst with unusual right paracolic localization and congenital lower extremity superficial and deep venous valve agenesis is presented. Inflammation of the peritoneal inclusion cyst was responsible for the signs of acute abdomen and subsequent presentation at our center. The cystic structure was initially diagnosed using ultrasonography, and its complete extent (8cm x 6.5cm x 4cm) was evident after magnetic resonance im

Doppler echocardiographic study of pulmonary venous flow in mitral stenosis and early after mitral valve replacement.

The aim of the study was Doppler echocardiographic assessment of the effect of mitral stenosis (MS) on pulmonary venous flow (PVF), and of any changes occurring after mitral valve replacement. Fifty patients with MS (22 in atrial fibrillation (AF)) and 28 healthy subjects (control group) underwent transthoracic echocardiographic evaluation of PVF. Fourteen of the 22 patients in AF were submitted in addition to transesophageal echo study before and after mitral valve replacement. Pulmonary wedge pressure was measured in 18 patients. Patients in sinus rhythm (SR) and more than mild MS showed sig

Pneumatosis intestinalis and hepatic portal venous gas caused by enteral feeding after a heart valve surgery.

UNLABELLED: An 81-year-old female with a history of type I diabetes mellitus underwent mitral valve repair and tricuspid annuloplasty for severe mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. A nasogastric tube was inserted on postoperative day 2, and enteral feeding was initiated. She complained about severe abdominal pain on postoperative day 7. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a massive hepatic portal venous gas and pneumatosis intestinalis of the small intestine. Emergency laparotomy showed no evidence of transmural necrosis. Bowel resection was not performed. On the next day, computed

[Incidence of systolic pulmonary venous flow reversal in patients with mitral valve prolapse: influence of the prolapse site].

OBJECTIVES: Systolic pulmonary venous flow reversal identified by pulsed Doppler echocardiography is useful for the diagnosis of severe mitral regurgitation. The direction of the mitral regurgitant jet in severe mitral regurgitation significantly influences the systolic pulmonary venous flow reversal in an experimental model. This study investigated the influence of the site of mitral valve prolapse on the incidence of systolic pulmonary venous flow reversal in patients with severe mitral regurgitation using transthoracic color Doppler echocardiography. METHODS: This study included 59 consecu

Case Report: Extensive deep vein thrombosis and venous pseudoaneurysm following percutaneous transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention.

INTRODUCTION: Transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention (TTVI) has evolved as a less-invasive alternative to surgical treatment of severe tricuspid regurgitation. Although venously delivered valves have been introduced, the risk of venous access site complications is unknown. We present a patient who suffered phlegmasia cerulea dolens post-TTVI. CASE SUMMARY: We present an 88-year-old female patient who developed phlegmasia cerulea dolens of the right lower extremity shortly after successful TTVI delivered through the right common femoral vein via a 35F sheath. Ipsilateral transpopliteal ven

Relation Between Pulmonary Venous Flow and Left Atrial Pressure During Percutaneous Mitral Valve Repair With the MitraClip.

Pulmonary venous (PV) flow may provide valuable information in terms of the severity of mitral regurgitation and left atrial (LA) pressure. We sought to find PV flow determinants of LA pressure during MitraClip procedure. We analyzed 575 PV flows in 290 patients using transesophageal echocardiography before and after MitraClip procedure. We measured peak systolic velocity (Sv), diastolic velocity (Dv), systolic velocity time integral (Svti), diastolic velocity time integral (Dvti), and those systolic to diastolic ratio as PV flow parameters. Systolic PV flow velocity was lower than diastolic P

Single Femoral Venous Drainage Versus Both Vena Cava Drainage in Isolated Repeat Tricuspid Valve Surgery.

To assess the potential advantages of minimally invasive surgery using a single femoral venous drainage method versus femoral venous and superior vena cava or jugular venous drainage method during repeat tricuspid valve surgery. From January 2010 to December 2016, 50 repeat tricuspid valve procedures were performed using a minimally invasive approach without aortic cross-clamping at our institution. The arterial cannula was inserted into the femoral artery, and at the same time, the venous cannula was placed in the femoral vein in 28 patients (FV group) during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The

Membranous remnant of left venous valve of inferior vena cava: implications for device closure of atrial septal defects.

We described three pediatric cases during which we encountered a rarely described component of the atrial septum, a membranous remnant of the left venous valve of the IVC, in patients who were brought to the catheterization lab for device closure of an atrial septal defect. In all cases, this remnant was not noted by previous transthoracic imaging. Awareness of this potential anatomic variation is important to successful device closure of atrial septal defects.

Isolated tricuspid valve endocarditis due to Candida parapsilosis associated with long-term central venous catheter implantation.

A 72-year-old man was treated for fungal tricuspid valve endocarditis (TVE) with significant tricuspid valvular regurgitation and severe congestive heart failure caused by Candida parapsilosis. The patient had received hyperalimentation and antibiotic therapy for three months through a central venous catheter after the surgical treatment of ileus. The patient was treated medically with amphotericin B and fluconazole because of high surgical risk due to severe pulmonary emphysema, and he responded well. Although TVE caused by C. parapsilosis is rare, we should consider this possibility in patie

Duplex-derived valve closure times fail to correlate with reflux flow volumes in patients with chronic venous insufficiency.

The best way to quantitate venous reflux is still a matter of debate. Duplex-derived valve closure time (VCTs) have been used recently because they can be measured easily. We examined the relationships between VCT and duplex-obtained quantitation of venous volume and between VCT and air plethysmography (APG). Sixty-nine legs in 45 patients with varying clinical degrees of chronic venous insufficiency were studied by duplex scan and APG. VCTs were compared with duplex-derived flow calculations and with APG-derived venous filling index and residual volume fraction. The patient's mean age was 47.

Société de Biomécanique senior investigator award 2024-Hemodynamic performance of a bicuspid venous valve: A computational study.

A 3D bicuspid venous valve model is used to investigate the biomechanical role of leaflet buckling in achieving efficient, low-pressure opening. The model is parameterized to represent the femoral vein, common femoral vein, and popliteal vein, with sizes and flow rates scaled to match in vivo conditions. Using a body-fitted numerical method with semi-implicit predictor-corrector coupling, we demonstrate that leaflet buckling enables opening through low-energy bending rather than energetically costly elastic stretching. This design ensures a maximum opening pressure loss of 42 Pa in the cases t

A nomogram model for predicting risk of lower extremity deep venous thrombosis in patients after heart valve replacement.

We aimed to construct and validate a nomogram model for predicting the risk of lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in patients after heart valve replacement. The data of patients hospitalised for heart valve replacement between January 2021 and March 2024 were retrospectively analysed. The independent risk factors for postoperative DVT were screened through univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, based on which a prediction model was established. The results of univariate analysis indicated that smoking history, history of alcohol intake, operation time, intraoperati

Vascular complications after percutaneous mitral valve repair and venous access closure using suture or closure device.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of different access-site closure strategies, suture or closure device (Proglide, Abbott Vascular), on vascular and bleeding complications after percutaneous mitral valve repair (MitraClip, Abbott Vascular). BACKGROUND: Considering the high-risk profile in patients receiving percutaneous mitral valve repair, complications related to the large 24 Fr access sheath and its relation to the closure technique have not been evaluated so far. METHODS AND RESULTS: Between 2009 and 2015, 277 consecutive high-risk patients with severe mitral valv

Persistent Eustachian Valve Causing Abdominal and Pelvic Venous System Dilation in a 44-Year-Old Male: A Case Report.

This case report presents a rare incidence of a persistent Eustachian valve (EV) causing notable venous dilation in the abdominal and pelvic regions of a 44-year-old healthy male. Initially presenting with left flank pain, diagnostic evaluations identified a 4.8-mm calculus in the distal left ureterovesical junction. Incidentally, imaging also revealed unexplained venous distensions, subsequently attributed to a prominent EV obstructing the inferior vena cava (IVC). The EV, an embryological structure in fetal circulation that helps divert blood from the IVC to the left atrium via the foramen o
