"There's an Etiquette to Zoom That's Not Really Present In-Person": A Qualitative Study Showing How the Mute Button Shapes Virtual Postpartum Support for New Parents.

Virtual spaces that allow parents in the postpartum period to connect, support each other, and exchange information have been increasing in popularity. With the COVID-19 pandemic, many parents had to rely on virtual platforms as a primary means to connect with others and attend to their postpartum health. This study explored virtual postpartum support sessions through the web-based videoconferencing software, Zoom. Guided by feminist poststructuralism and sociomaterialism, we held seven virtual support sessions for parents caring for a baby 0-12 months in age, in Canada, and interviewed 19 par

Touching Technology-Parents' Experiences of Remote Consultations for Children With Severe Congenital Cardiac Conditions: Quasi-Experimental Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Remote consultations (RCs) using videoconferencing was recommended by the General Medical Council as the method for clinicians to provide patient consultations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Facilitating this while providing high-quality care depends on the usability and acceptability of the technology. OBJECTIVE: This project aimed to investigate parents' experiences of using videoconferencing technology for real-time RCs with children who had congenital heart defects during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. METHODS: This study's design was quasi-experimental and was underpinned by

Effects of appearance modifications on oral presentation anxiety in video conferencing.

Oral presentations are considered to provoke high levels of anxiety, yet limited research has explored this phenomenon in the context of video conferences. Considering the feasibility of private facial filters in video calls and the impact of audience appearance on speakers' experiences, we propose modifying the visual representation of the audience to reduce oral presentation anxiety in video conferences. We found literature evidence supporting the effectiveness of both highly familiar appearances and attractive anime characters in reducing anxiety. Building on this, we conducted a real video

The Role of Information Infrastructures in Scaling up Video Consultations During COVID-19: Mixed Methods Case Study Into Opportunity, Disruption, and Exposure.

BACKGROUND: Until COVID-19, implementation and uptake of video consultations in health care was slow. However, the pandemic created a "burning platform" for scaling up such services. As health care organizations look to expand and maintain the use of video in the "new normal," it is important to understand infrastructural influences and changes that emerged during the pandemic and that may influence sustainability going forward. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to draw lessons from 4 National Health Service (NHS) organizations on how information infrastructures shaped, and were shaped by, the rapid

Why do psychotherapists use so little e-mental health in psychotherapy? Insights from a sample of psychotherapists in Germany.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, psychotherapists had to use e-mental health to continue their treatment and to stay in contact with patients. Even after the pandemic, many psychotherapists continued to use modern technologies such as videoconferencing. However, the pandemic did not lead to increased use of all types of e-mental health. The aim of the present study was to assess the usage of and potential association factors with e-mental health in a sample of German psychotherapists. We focused on the use of videoconferencing and mental health apps for e-mental health use. This was an online sur

Pathological personality traits intensity variation according to ICD-11 within general population and clinical groups.

PURPOSE: Although rural and remote residents face general challenges accessing health care in comparison to urban dwellers, care for musculoskeletal conditions like chronic back disorders (CBD) is particularly challenging for rural and remote residents due to lack of access to physical yherapists. Telerehabilitation such as secure videoconferencing offers one solution to this disparity in rural care delivery, but incorporating the perspectives of health practitioners and patients is important when developing new sustainable care models. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study investigated the experi

Remote Assessment of Functional Mobility and Strength in Older Cancer Survivors: Protocol for a Validity and Reliability Study.

BACKGROUND: Older cancer survivors, faced with both age- and treatment-related morbidity, are at increased and premature risk for physical function limitations. Physical performance is an important predictor of disability, quality of life, and premature mortality, and thus is considered an important target of interventions designed to prevent, delay, or attenuate the physical functional decline. Currently, low-cost, valid, and reliable methods to remotely assess physical performance tests that are self-administered by older adults in the home-setting do not exist, thus limiting the reach, scal

Team-Based Telecare for Bipolar Disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Numerous randomized controlled trials indicate that collaborative chronic care models improve outcome in a wide variety of mental health conditions, including bipolar disorder. However, their spread into clinical practice is limited by the need for a critical mass of patients and specialty providers in the same locale. Clinical videoconferencing has the potential to overcome these geographic limitations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A videoconference-based collaborative care program for bipolar disorder was implemented in the Department of Veterans Affairs. Program evaluation assessed

Effectiveness of Videoconference-Delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Adults With Psychiatric Disorders: Systematic and Meta-Analytic Review.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the gold standard of psychotherapy for psychiatric disorders. However, the format of delivering CBT in person limits access to the intervention. The advancements in information and communication technology, especially the internet, present an opportunity for cognitive behavioral therapists to service patients or clients in remote areas through videoconferencing. Although many randomized controlled trials of videoconference-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (VCBT) have already been conducted, the overall estimated effect size of VCBT for ps
