Water-compatible molecularly imprinted polymer as a sorbent for the selective extraction and purification of adefovir from human serum and urine.

A molecularly imprinted polymer has been synthesized to specifically extract adefovir, an antiviral drug, from serum and urine by dispersive solid-phase extraction before high-performance liquid chromatography with UV analysis. The imprinted polymers were prepared by bulk polymerization by a noncovalent imprinting method that involved the use of adefovir (template molecule) and functional monomer (methacrylic acid) complex prior to polymerization, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linker, and chloroform as porogen. Molecular recognition properties, binding capacity, and selectivity of th

Nano-Confined Solar-Thermal Water Purification Boosted by Physical Field Disturbance Coupled with Ultrafast Non-Radical Advanced Oxidation Process.

Solar interfacial evaporation has undergone rapid development in recent years, yet its overall performance has reached a plateau due to limited advances in solar-thermal materials. Herein, we propose a synergistic nano-confinement and physical-field-modulation strategy that enables concurrent acceleration of solar-driven evaporation of water and on-site remediation of organic pollutants. Implemented in hollow mesoporous carbon nanocages integrated with Fe-N4 catalytic sites and inner wall plasmonic Au nanoparticles, the system couples mesoporous confinement with localized thermal and pressure

Tailoring High-Valent Iron-Oxo Species Redox via Extended π-Fe3d-O2p Orbital Overlapping Toward Chemical-Efficient Water Purification.

High-valent iron oxo species (Fe(IV)) are attractive for wastewater treatment because of their high selectivity toward organic pollutants in complex water matrices, but their intrinsic redox properties drive rapid quenching by peroxide precursors, causing excessive chemical consumption. This work addresses this challenge by anchoring Fe(IV) on an iron-phthalocyanine-based conjugated organic framework (FePPC) featuring multi-layered reticular structures and strong π-Fe3d-O2p orbital overlapping. The two-dimensional planar structures provided easily accessible active sites and the extended in-pl

Atomically engineered Fe/Mn catalysts enable ultrafast self-sustaining water purification via oxidant-free Fenton-like electron-transfer reaction.

Green Fenton-like reactions based on monometallic single-atom dual-reaction-center systems have emerged as promising strategies for sustainable water purification owing to their oxidant-free operation and low energy demand. However, their practical deployment is often hindered by limited degradation kinetics and unresolved mechanisms. Here, we report a carbon nitride-supported Fe/Mn bimetallic catalyst composed of Fe nanoclusters and adjacent Mn single atoms (FeMn-CN) that enables ultrafast and self-sustaining pollutant degradation under oxidant-free conditions. The catalyst achieves 99.5 % re

Self-floating wood membrane with a gas-liquid-solid triphase interface for photocatalytic H2O2 production and sustainable water purification.

Sustainable production of H2O2 coupled with pollutant removal is highly desirable for water treatment but remains challenged by inefficient oxygen supply and interfacial reaction limitations in conventional slurry systems. Here, a self-floating RP/wood membrane is developed to regulate interfacial transport and enable photocatalytic H2O2 production at the air-water interface. Resorcinol-formaldehyde@polypyrrole (RF@PPy, denoted as RP) were immobilized onto a wood scaffold through PVDF-assisted assembly, forming an RP/wood membrane with hierarchical porosity and asymmetric wettability. Synergistic volatiles removal via diffusion inhibition and catalysis degradation by photothermal-photocatalytic hydrogel distillation membranes for sustainable water purification.

Photothermal membrane distillation (PMD) faces critical challenges in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) penetration due to their inherent volatility. Herein, we propose a hierarchically engineered photothermal-photocatalytic hydrogel (PPH) membrane with dual defense barriers, integrating an alginate (Alg) hydrogel layer as a kinetic diffusion suppressor and a BiOBr/carbon nanotube layer as a photocatalytic promoter on a hydrophobic substrate. This design enables simultaneous stable water production (2.93 kg m⁻² h⁻¹) and nearly complete VOCs removal (100%) under one-solar irradiation. PPH membr

Regulating the covalency of Co-O bond by Fe incorporation achieves efficient peracetic acid activation for durable water purification.

Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) relying on peracetic acid (PAA) have drawn extensive attention due to their environmental benignity. Enhancing the activation of PAA and the creation of organic radicals (RO•) are of great significance for decontamination. Regulating the covalency of the metal-oxygen bond can break the limitation of PAA activation and improve the generation of radicals. Herein, CuCo0.6Fe0.4O2 with a high covalency of Co-O bond is developed by Fe incorporation in CuCoO2. The CuCo0.6Fe0.4O2/PAA system exhibits superior catalytic performance for 2,4,6-TCP degradation (97.2 %),

A novel P/Ag/Ag2O/Ag3PO4/TiO2 composite film for water purification and antibacterial application under solar light irradiation.

TiO2-based thin films have been intensively studied in recent years to develop efficient photocatalyst films to degrade refractory organics and inactivate bacteria for wastewater treatment. In the present work, P/Ag/Ag2O/Ag3PO4/TiO2 composite films on the inner-surface of glass tube were successfully prepared via sol-gel approach. P/Ag/Ag2O/Ag3PO4/TiO2 composite films with 3 coating layers, synthesized at 400°C for 2h, showed the optimal photocatalytic performance for rhodamine B (Rh B) degradation. The results indicated that degradation ratio of Rh B by P/Ag/Ag2O/Ag3PO4/TiO2 composite film re

From waste to water purification: Self-floating orange peel cellulose microspheres via in-situ CO2 foaming for methylene blue adsorption.

The treatment of organic dye wastewater calls for sustainable and high-performance technologies. Herein, we present an innovative strategy to upcycle waste orange peels into self-floating porous cellulose (OPC) hydrogel microspheres via a novel in situ CO2 foaming technique for efficient methylene blue removal. A synergistic acid-alkali-enzyme method was employed to extract OPC, which was subsequently engineered into a three-dimensional porous architecture with an average pore size of 46.7 nm, as evidenced by SEM and BET analyses. Under alkaline conditions, the adsorption process followed pseu

Atomic H* Production Amplified by Precisely Tailored Ag-Pt Dual-Atom Synergy: Crucial Roles in 6PPD Detoxification for Water Purification.

N-(1,3-Dimethylbutyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (6PPD) forms the highly toxic quinone analogue 6PPD-Q during the Fenton processes, posing risks to aquatic organisms and humans. To bridge this gap, we optimally designed Ag-Pt dual-atom catalysts (DACs) that harness visible-light-induced interfacial charge transfer to enhance atomic H* generation, thereby directing 6PPD detoxification through direct hydrogenation of benzene rings (to terminate 6PPD-Q formation) and selective enhancement of hydroxyl radical (•OH) activation in a Fenton-like process. Multiple lines of evidence demonstrated that

Zeolite Imidazolate Frameworks-8@SiO2-ZrO2 Crystal-Amorphous Hybrid Core-Shell Structure as a Building Block for Water Purification Membranes.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are emerging as promising materials for water purification membranes, owing to their uniform microporous structures and chemical functionalities. Here, we report a simple procedure for depositing MOF-based nanofiltration membranes on commercial TiO2 ceramic tubular supports, completely avoiding the use of dispersants or binders. Zeolite imidazolate frameworks-8 (ZIF-8) nanocrystals were synthesized in methanol at room temperature and subsequently coated with an amorphous SiO2-ZrO2 gel to generate a dispersion of ZIF-8@SiO2-ZrO2 core-shell nanoparticles. Asymmetric Co-O-La coordination achieves biocompatible and selective generation of high-valent cobalt-oxo species for boosting water purification.

Efficient activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) by cobalt-based catalysts is often limited by metal leaching, non-selective radical pathways, and associated biotoxicity, hindering their practical application in water purification. Here, cobalt atoms are embedded into the La2Ti2O7 perovskite lattice (Co-LTO), forming asymmetric Co-O-La coordination motifs that create a polarized electronic microenvironment. Airway organoid assays demonstrate that lattice confinement significantly suppresses cobalt associated biotoxicity compared to free cobalt ions. Experimental evidence and density functional
