Perceptions of Glucagon-like Peptide 1 Receptor Agonists Among Individuals With Knee Osteoarthritis and Excess Weight: A Qualitative Study.

OBJECTIVE: Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) facilitate weight loss and reduce pain among individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA). We investigated attitudes and barriers influencing GLP-1RA use among individuals with knee OA and excess weight to draw distinctions in perspectives between patients with and without GLP-1RA experience. METHODS: In this cross-sectional qualitative study guided by the Framework Analysis method, we conducted structured interviews with persons with knee OA and excess weight. The moderator's guide included questions about health, weight loss histo

Cue-weighting for emotion perception by pediatric/young adult and postlingually deaf adult cochlear implantees, and typically hearing counterparts.

Cochlear implant (CI) patients generally exhibit poorer emotional prosody identification than their typically hearing (TH) counterparts. Utilization of prosodic cues by CI listeners may depend on their auditory experience. Here, we assessed reliance on voice pitch (F0) contour, duration, and intensity cues in a happy/sad emotion identification task using stimuli with the cues manipulated orthogonally. Results showed that TH adults relied strongly on F0 contour and duration cues in the task. TH children exhibited developmental effects, relying less on F0 and duration cues than TH adults. Prelin

Cutting the research pie: a value-weighting approach to explore perceptions about psychosocial research priorities for adults with haematological cancers.

Despite the burden of illness associated with haematological cancers, little research is available about improving psychosocial outcomes for this group. Given scarce research funds, it is important to ensure that resources are used strategically for improving their psychosocial well-being. This study aimed to identify the perceptions of professionals, patients and carers regarding prioritising psychosocial research efforts. First, an expert panel's views on priorities for research were identified. This was followed by a web survey to obtain the perceptions of 117 health professionals, patients

Perceptions of non-Western immigrant women on having breast cancer and their experiences with treatment-related changes in body weight and lifestyle: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: The number of non-Western immigrants with breast cancer in the Netherlands has increased over the past decades and is expected to triple by 2030. Due to insufficient representation in clinical studies, it is unclear what the specific experiences and needs of these women are. Understanding how culture and religion affect these women's experience of breast cancer and how they deal with chemotherapy and treatment-related changes in body weight and lifestyle is crucial for health care professionals to be able to provide effective support. METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted usi

Effect of a Culturally Based Intervention Model on Infant Weight and Maternal Perceptions of Breastfeeding Adequacy Following Caesarean Section: Quasi-Experimental Study.

BACKGROUND: The breastfeeding coverage rate (that is, the number of mothers reached by breastfeeding programs) in several regions in Indonesia, including Banten and West Java, is still below the actual rate of breastfeeding nationwide. The breastfeeding coverage rate is influenced by mothers' condition after childbirth, particularly among mothers who have had a caesarean section. Support from partners, family, and close friends also has a large influence on the continuation of exclusive breastfeeding. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to identify the effectiveness of a culturally based intervention

Exploring Emergency Department Provider Experiences With and Perceptions of Weight-Based Versus Individualized Vaso-Occlusive Treatment Protocols in Sickle Cell Disease.

Treatment of vaso-occlusive episodes (VOEs) is the most common reason for emergency department (ED) treatment of sickle cell disease (SCD). We (1) compared perceptions of the usability and ability to manage VOE pain between ED nurses and other ED provider types, ED sites, and VOE protocols (individualized vs. weight-based), and (2) identified ED nurse and other provider protocol suggestions. A secondary analysis of provider survey data collected immediately after caring for a patient enrolled in a randomized controlled trial comparing weight-based versus individualized opioid dosing for VOE. Cross-sectional study of gender differences in the perception of body image during cancer-induced weight loss: study protocol for the GRACE study (Global Research on Appearance in Cancer).

BACKGROUND: Unintentional weight loss is prevalent in advanced cancer and maintaining weight is critical to improve clinical outcomes. Body image plays a significant role in how weight loss is perceived. A previous Swedish study showed that men with advanced cancer had a negative perception of cancer-induced weight loss whereas women perceived the weight loss more positively. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the GRACE study (Global Research on Appearance in Cancer) is to study gender differences in the perception of body image during cancer-induced weight loss. "If we lose it, we are worried": Individual and provider level perceptions towards weight change among people living with HIV who undergo TB screening in routine health care settings in Gauteng Province, South Africa.

BACKGROUND: HIV weakens the immune system, increasing the risk of tuberculosis (TB) in people with living HIV (PLHIV). People living with HIV and on antiretroviral treatment (ART) often experience physical body size changes. Studies have found a significant discrepancy between PLHIV's self-reported weight loss and their measured weight loss when being screened for TB using the WHO tool. To understand this inconsistency, a qualitative sub-study was conducted to explore perceptions and attitudes towards weight change among adults attending HIV care, as well as health care workers in public clini
