We report a case of gene-positive long-QT syndrome (KCNH2) in a patient with concomitant Williams Syndrome. The hypercalcemia that developed in association with Williams Syndrome pseudo-normalized the QTc interval on surface ECG, concealing the clinical and electrocardiographic manifestations of the disease. Initiation of medical therapy for hypercalcemia unmasked the prolonged QT interval, allowing for the diagnosis of long-QT syndrome to be made.

The middle aortic syndrome, with diffuse narrowing of the thoracic and abdominal aorta, was present in 10 of 18 patients with Williams' syndrome (55%). There were 3 thoracic coarctations, and 2 abdominal coarctations, with gradients greater than 20 mmHg across the zone of narrowing. Seven patients had mild renal arterial stenosis, and 6 had visceral arterial stenoses. Ten were hypertensive. Measured dimensions of the aortic lumen failed to increase with age in 3 males who had serial angiographic studies. One developed mesenteric arterial stenosis, with mild bilateral renal arterial stenoses, b

INTRODUCTION: Moyamoya syndrome associated with Williams syndrome is very rare but has been reported to have severe outcomes. Here, we reported a case of Williams syndrome with moyamoya syndrome that was confirmed by the presence of an RNF213 mutation.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 6-year-old boy with Williams syndrome presented with right hemiparesis induced by hyperventilation. Magnetic resonance angiography and cerebral angiography showed severe stenosis of the bilateral internal carotid arteries and development of moyamoya vessels. Genetic analysis identified a heterozygous c.14576G>A (p.R4859K) m

We report on a preterm infant born at 31 weeks of gestation with a phenotype suggestive of Alagille syndrome, yet microarray analysis identified a deletion on 7q11.23 at the Williams syndrome locus. The infant died on day 18 of life with overwhelming sepsis. This case illustrates the importance of microarray analysis in diagnosing genetic conditions, especially in preterm babies whose facial and other clinical manifestations have not fully developed.

The purpose of the study was to characterize repetitive phenomena in Williams syndrome (WS). The parents of 60 subjects with WS completed the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) or Children's Y-BOCS, the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale, the Stereotyped Behavior Scale, and the Spence Children's Anxiety Scale-Parent Version. Nineteen males and 41 females participated in the study. Six subjects (10%) had obsessions only, six (10%) had compulsions only, and eleven (18%) had at least one obsession and at least one compulsion. None of the subjects had tics. Fifty subjects (83.3%) endorsed

A 17-year-old male patient diagnosed with Williams-Beuren syndrome presented with a gradual decline in vision in both eyes during a 3-year period. The ophthalmologic examination was notable for numerous loop-shaped tortuous vessels accompanying normal appearing retinal vessels and cystoid macular edema (CME). Mild foveal hypoplasia with a persistence of inner retinal layers was noted on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT). OCT angiography showed that the abnormal vessels were not retinal vessels but were compatible with prepapillary vascular loops. The CME persisted despite repe

Williams syndrome is a multisystem disorder caused by contiguous gene deletion in 7q11.23, commonly associated with distinctive facial features, supravalvular aortic stenosis, short stature, idiopathic hypercalcemia, developmental delay, joint laxity, and a friendly personality. The clinical features of 15q11q13 duplication syndrome include autism, mental retardation, ataxia, seizures, developmental delay, and behavioral problems. We report a rare case of a girl with genetically confirmed Williams syndrome and coexisting 15q duplication syndrome. The patient underwent treatment for central pre

INTRODUCTION: The Williams syndrome (WS) is a rare genetic disease. The disorder is characterized by symptoms, such as facial dysmorphism, defects within the masticatory organ and cardiovascular system as well as intellectual and physical disability. Moreover, the disorder may also affect vision or hearing, gastrointestinal and urogenital system and skin. Limited cooperation with children suffering from WS is related not only from their young age and fear of dental treatment but also with hypersensitivity to sounds, which is one of the symptoms of this disease. Therefore, there is a need to ca

Celiac disease is an autoimmune, gastrointestinal disorder characterized by intolerance to the dietary grain protein gluten. An increased prevalence of celiac disease has been reported in Down syndrome and Turner syndrome, but there has been only few previous reports with respect to the association of celiac disease in Williams-Beuren syndrome. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of celiac disease in our 24 Williams-Beuren syndrome patients. Gastrointestinal problems and celiac disease symptoms of patients were noted. All patients were analyzed by the titer of tissue transgluta

Williams syndrome (WS) is a genetic disorder caused by the hemizygous microdeletion in chromosome 7q11.23. It is characterized by dysmorphic face, cardiovascular disease, idiopathic hypercalcemia, mental retardation, and an uneven profile of cognitive-linguistic abilities and deficits. The presence of autistic features in individuals with WS is a controversial issue. While there are reports that describe them as overly friendly with excessive sociability and good empathic skills, some recent studies focus more on the qualitative impairment of their social abilities. Here, we report the clinica

Williams syndrome (WS) is a genetic neurodevelopmental disorder in which hypersociability is a characteristic feature. Given that the amygdala has been identified as an integral component of the neural system underlying sociability, researchers have suggested that the abnormal amygdala volumes found in individuals with WS may play a role in their hypersociability. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between amygdala volume and hypersociability, as measured by approachability ratings, in 22 individuals with WS and 22 normal controls matched on chronological age, sex, and hande

The hypothesis that young children with Williams syndrome show higher rates of emotional responsivity relative to other children with developmental disabilities was explored. Performance of 23 young children with Williams syndrome and 30 MA-matched children with developmental disabilities of nonspecific etiologies was compared on an adaptation of Repacholi and Gopnik's (1997) "Yummy-Yucky" task. Results show that children with Williams syndrome were more likely to mimic and/or imitate facial affect and vocalizations than children in the mixed comparison group. Yet, this increased emotional res

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the cardiovascular manifestations of Williams syndrome (WS) confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).
METHODS: Between July 2004 and January 2007, FISH was used to confirm diagnosis in 71 suspected WS cases by detecting chromosome 7q microdeletion. Cardiovascular abnormalities were assessed by echocardiography and Doppler echocardiography.
RESULTS: Forty out of 71 patients were detected to have Elastin gene locus microdeletion, 25 patients (25/40, 62.5%) had at least one cardiac anomaly; among these patients, supravalvular aortic stenosis (SVAS) was diagn

BACKGROUND: Williams-Beuren syndrome is a multisystem developmental disorder caused by a microdeletion at chromosome 7q11.23. In its classic form it includes dysmorphic facial features, joint contractures, retardation of growth and mental development, gregarious personality, visuospatial cognitive deficits, hypercalcemia, primary or secondary hypertension and cardiovascular disorders.
AIM: Clinical diagnosis of Williams-Beuren syndrome can be a challenge in young patients if none of the characteristic cardiovascular features, i.e. supravalvular aortic stenosis or pulmonary artery stenosis, ar

INTRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT: Williams syndrome is a developmental disorder with an estimated prevalence of 1 in 7,500 newborns. Its phenotype is characterized by distinctive facial features, mild to moderate mental retardation and general cognitive deficits with a non-uniform profile, having problems in some areas (psychomotricity, visuospatial integration) and relative preservation of others (language, musicality), friendly personality, occasional hypercalcemia of infancy, and a vasculopathy with supravalvular aortic stenosis. Williams syndrome is caused by a submicroscopic deletion of 1.55

Williams syndrome is a rare congenital disease in which the etiological locus is a micro-deletion in chromosome 7. Here, we describe the case of a 22-year-old male who was diagnosed with Williams syndrome at the age of 3 years. As a child, the patient exhibited patterns of behavior characteristic of this syndrome including hyperactivity, attention deficit, and over-friendliness. He also showed persistent interest in construction vehicles, playgrounds, and gloves. He became interested in gloves after watching a television program in which the heroine fought her enemies while wearing gloves. Wat
