Multifunctional monolithic gold nanowires for wireless smart wearable personalized healthcare device.

Despite extensive investigation on soft bioelectronic systems for smart healthcare, it remains a big technical challenge to achieve robust, wireless integration of multifunctional components via monolithic patterning. Here, we developed a wireless wearable healthcare device fabricated using bulk and hollow gold nanowires (Ag@AuNW and AuHNW) with distinct electrical properties. The strain sensor based on AuHNW showed high sensitivity (ΔR/R0 = 773.07 at 100 %) and the Ag@AuNW-based temperature sensor showed superior temperature sensitivity (0.296 % oC-1). Both sensors exhibited remarkable select

A closed loop fully automated wireless vagus nerve stimulation system.

Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) has been explored as a treatment for a range of conditions, including epilepsy, cardiovascular disorders, drug-resistant depression, chronic pain, and obesity. Conventionally, VNS is administered using an open-loop approach, in which trained personnel adjust stimulation parameters. Medical supervision is necessary to minimize adverse effects, such as severe bradycardia, which can significantly interfere with daily activities. This requirement limits the feasibility of VNS in unsupervised settings and highlights the need for an automated control system. To address

High-performance wireless powering for peripheral nerve neuromodulation systems.

Neuromodulation of peripheral nerves with bioelectronic devices is a promising approach for treating a wide range of disorders. Wireless powering could enable long-term operation of these devices, but achieving high performance for miniaturized and deeply placed devices remains a technological challenge. We report the miniaturized integration of a wireless powering system in soft neuromodulation device (15 mm length, 2.7 mm diameter) and demonstrate high performance (about 10%) during in vivo wireless stimulation of the vagus nerve in a porcine animal model. The increased performance is enable

Impact of wireless health on proactive loss control and wellness strategies.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that despite an overall decrease in the number of workers compensation claims, indemnity, medical costs and days away from work have continued to rise. Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD) account for 33 percent of these costs. OSHA Defines an MSD as: "Disorders of the muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, joints, cartilage and spinal discs. Wireless technology will play an important role in prevention and diagnosing these injuries. In fact, today's escalating medical costs and ever changing legal and regulatory environment necessitate proactive loss control an

Efficient management through monitoring of Li-ion batteries is critical to the progress of electro-mobility and energy storage globally, since the technology can be hazardous if pushed beyond its safety boundaries. Battery management systems (BMSs) are being actively improved to reduce size, weight, and cost while increasing their capabilities. Using power line communication, wireless monitoring, or hybrid data links are one of the most advanced research directions today. In this work, we propose the use of radio frequency (RF) transceivers as a communication unit that can deliver both wired a

An End-To-End LwM2M-Based Communication Architecture for Multimodal NB-IoT/BLE Devices.

The wireless Internet of Things (IoT) landscape is quite diverse. For instance, Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) technologies offer low data rate communication over long distance, whereas Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) technologies can reach higher data rates, but with a reduced range. For simple IoT applications, communication requirements can be fulfilled by a single technology. However, the requirements of more demanding IoT use cases can vary over time and with the type of data being exchanged. This is pushing the design towards multimodal approaches, where different wireless IoT

Application of wireless ultrasound for guided caudal anesthesia in children undergoing concealed penis surgery.

Caudal anesthesia alleviates the strong pain endured by children during surgical treatment for concealed penis. In the traditional method, anesthesiologists identify the puncture point using the 'blind probe' method, which leads to anesthesia induction failure in children. Ultrasound has recently gained wide attention for its guidance in peripheral nerve block analgesia. However, the clinical significance of wireless ultrasound - guided caudal anesthesia technology in children remains unexplored. This study investigated the clinical value of wireless ultrasound - guided caudal anesthesia in ch

Paintable on-skin dry electrodes with robust skin and device connection for wireless sensing and human-machine interfaces.

Reliable and continuous electrophysiological recording is important for health monitoring and human-machine interactions. However, most existing epidermal electrodes suffer from either limited skin-electrode contact during skin deformation and sweating, or unstable connections between soft electrodes and relatively rigid data acquisition systems due to the inherent mechanical mismatch. Besides, their lack of personalization further discourages long-term use, particularly among children, adolescents, and individuals sensitive to stigma. Here, this work presents a paintable, drawn-on-skin dry el

An Interference-Aware Adaptive Frequency Channel Selection Transceiver for Low Power Human Body Communication.

Conventional wireless approaches for wearable body sensor networks suffer from body shadowing effects and high power consumption. Human body communication (HBC) utilizing the body's conductive properties offers a promising alternative but faces challenges from dynamic channel characteristics and environmental interference coupling in the sub-10 MHz electro-quasi-static (EQS) regime. To mitigate interference effects, existing transceivers employ narrowband operation with conservative carrier-to-data-rate ratios. This paper presents an interference-aware adaptive frequency hopping (AFH) human bo

Reliability-Aware Image-Wireless Fusion for Through-Wood Termite Detection.

Termite infestation poses a critical threat to ancient timber structures because hidden in-wood activity can cause progressive structural decay before visible surface symptoms appear. Through-wood termite detection remains challenging because termite-induced electromagnetic responses are weak, small-scale, and vulnerable to timber attenuation and multipath propagation. To address this problem, this study presents one of the first investigations to formulate through-wood termite detection as a multi-frequency wireless sensing and image-wireless fusion problem for non-destructive heritage timber

Highly sensitive wireless dual-spiral resonant contact lens for continuous intraocular pressure monitoring.

Continuous and non-invasive intraocular pressure (IOP) monitoring is crucial for managing glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. However, existing tonometry methods are intermittent and lack the capability to capture dynamic IOP fluctuations. Herein, we present a highly sensitive, wireless contact lens (WCL) sensor based on a dual-spiral inductor-capacitor-resistor (LCR) resonator for real-time IOP monitoring. The sensor features an axisymmetric anti-parallel spiral architecture that synergistically enhances capacitive coupling and suppresses inductive mutual coupling,

Synergistic Optimization in Ru-Sensitized Mo-WO3 Nanosheets for Ultrasensitive ppb-Level H2S Sensing and Real-Time Wireless Oral Health Monitoring.

Although metal oxide semiconductors are promising candidates for practical disease diagnosis based on H2S detection, achieving high sensitivity and a low detection limit remains a considerable challenge. In this work, Ru-functionalized Mo-doped WO3 (Ru@Mo-WO3) nanosheets were successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal process followed by annealing and chemical reduction. The H2S sensing performances of all WO3-based sensors were systematically investigated. The optimized Ru@Mo-WO3 sensor exhibited a remarkable response of 120 to 5 ppm H2S at the optimal operating temperature, which was
