The development of ZnO thin films has been achieved through the conversion of zinc hydroxide carbonate thin-film crystals. Crystallization of this compound is induced by a biomineralization-inspired method with polymer-stabilized amorphous precursors. The crystals grow radially on polymer matrices, leading to the formation of zinc hydroxide carbonate/polymer thin-film hybrids that fully cover the substrate. These hybrids are converted into ZnO and retain their thin-film morphologies. The resultant ZnO thin films exhibit a preferential crystallographic orientation that is attributed to the alig

BACKGROUND: The best space maintainer in both primary and mixed dentition is the primary tooth itself. This is not only because of the clinical crown but also due to the presence of the roots and periodontium that guide the eruption of the permanent tooth. Although over the years many materials have been tried for obturation of pulpectomized primary teeth, no material has been found to fulfill all requirements. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic efficiency of zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE), zinc oxide-ozonated oil, antioxidant mix, and probiotic mix in root ca

An enzyme-free glucose sensor based on vertically grown zinc oxide nanorods (NRs) functionalized with ferric oxide (Fe2O3) is investigated. The well-aligned and high density ZnO NRs were synthesized on an FTO/glass substrate by a sol-gel and hydrothermal growth method. A dip-coating technique was utilized to modify the surface of the as-grown ZnO NRs with Fe2O3. The immobilized surface was coated with a layer of nafion membrane. The fabricated glucose sensor was characterized amperometrically at room temperature using three electrodes stationed in the phosphate buffer solution, where ZnO NRs/F

The expanding application of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) in consumer products, medicine, and the food industry has raised significant concerns regarding their potential neurotoxicity. This review synthesizes current understanding of the pathways by which ZnO NPs gain access to the central nervous system (CNS), their resulting neurotoxic effects, and the underlying molecular mechanisms. These nanoparticles primarily breach the CNS via translocation across the blood-brain barrier, axonal transport along sensory nerves, and disruption of the microbiota-gut-brain axis. Upon entry, ZnO NPs i

Nanomaterials and surfactants are widely detected in soil-groundwater environments, while the surfactant-mediated transport behavior of nanoparticles has not been sufficiently investigated. In this study, the transport of ZnO nanoparticles (nZnO) in quartz sand (QS) in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) is investigated by adsorption and column experiments in combination with XDLVO analysis and numerical simulation. The adsorption of nZnO on QS is investigated by adsorption experiments under the environmental concentration of CTAB (50 mg·L-1). The results of adsorption experi

BACKGROUND: Seizures are considered to be the most common symptom encountered in emergency- rushed tramadol-poisoned patients; accounting for 8% of the drug-induced seizure cases. Although, diazepam clears these seizures, the risk of central respiratory depression cannot be overlooked. Henceforth, three adsorbing composites were examined in a tramadol acute intoxication mouse model.
METHODS: Calcium Silicate (Wollastonite) either non-doped or wet doped with iron oxide (3%Fe2O3) or zinc oxide (30% ZnO) were prepared. The composites' adsorption capacity for tramadol was determined in vitro. Tra

Skin is the largest mechanical barrier against invading pathogens. Following skin injury, the healing process immediately starts to regenerate the damaged tissues and to avoid complications that usually include colonization by pathogenic bacteria, leading to fever and sepsis, which further impairs and complicates the healing process. So, there is an urgent need to develop a novel pharmaceutical material that promotes the healing of infected wounds. The present work aimed to prepare and evaluate the efficacy of novel azithromycin-loaded zinc oxide nanoparticles (AZM-ZnONPs) in the treatment of

There has long been debate about how nanoproducts meet agricultural requirements. This study aimed to investigate tomato responses to the long-time foliar application of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NP; 0 and 3 mgl-1) or bulk type (BZnO). Both ZnO-NP and BZnO treatments, especially the nanoform, were significantly capable of improving growth, biomass, and yield. The ZnO-NP treatment upregulated the expression of the R2R3MYB transcription factor by 2.6 folds. The BZnO and ZnO-NP treatments transcriptionally up-regulated WRKY1 gene by 2.5 and 6.4 folds, respectively. The bHLH gene was also upre

Hybrid gold nanostructures seeded into nanotextured zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoflowers (NFs) were created for novel biosensing applications. The selected 'spotted NFs' had a 30-nm-thick gold nanoparticle (AuNP) layer, chosen from a range of AuNP thicknesses, sputtered onto the surface. The generated nanohybrids, characterized by morphological, physical and structural analyses, were uniformly AuNP-seeded onto the ZnO NFs with an average length of 2-3 μm. Selective capture of molecular probes onto the seeded AuNPs was evidence for the specific interaction with DNA from pathogenic Leptospirosis-causing
